Karecibo Message - Complete Version
JoeSchmuckatelli replied to Vl3d's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
There is certainly time for one to come out before EA (which does not have to be the deadline, given it is EA)... But I will be looking when the 'release trailer' or final 'look, we did a thing!' video drops in February. If we are correct - that would have to be it... Absent Alien Mega-Structure I doubt it's 4 things in the same orbit. This is fun! -

The sword is a rocket. Folks on the third planet from Kerbol sent a rocket - the Kraken appeared and broke the rocket. No clue what the part between the broken rocket and the two figures could be Unless the tall one is a monolith? All of the other dots? -

Yeah I hear ya... It's only been 29,777 hours since I saw the announcement trailer and got excited about KSP2 in the first place... https://www.google.com/search?q=hours+since+August+19%2C+2019&oq=hours+since+August+19%2C+2019+&aqs=chrome..69i57j33i15i22i29i30.14042j0j9&client=ms-android-samsung-ss&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8 -
except you would not write negative x times negative x that way. That would be -x(-x) and before you say xx could be x^2 in the same way you write xy to mean x times y (x times x), and thus -x-x could also be x^2 - the conventions matter. -x-y would never be understood as anything but negative x minus y. AFAIK - you do need the parenthesis.

Another note on resilience. Earth’s protective ozone layer is slowly but noticeably healing at a pace that would fully mend the hole over Antarctica in about 43 years, a new United Nations report says. ... The report also warned that efforts to artificially cool the planet by putting aerosols into the atmosphere to reflect the sunlight would thin the ozone layer by as much as 20% in Antarctica. New article on the incredible lightning accompanying the eruption. Over the course of just 6 hours, the Tongan volcano triggered nearly 400,000 lightning events. Half of all the lightning in the world was concentrated around this volcano at the eruption's peak One-minute snapshots of lightning over the Tonga volcano eruption on January 15. The lightning surrounded the volcano "in distinctive ring patterns during the peak of the eruption," https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/08/weather/tonga-volcano-lightning-buffalo-snow-climate-scn/index.html

Neanderthal question: given that the atmosphere of Venus is denser than Earth's, with a slightly less dense planet, if you could overcome the temperature and acidity problems - would we be able to do a SSTO spaceplane there, easier than here? Average wind speeds are higher, too - so lift generation should be better - but I know that denser air = greater drag. ...so maybe a slow flight up to altitude then punch it? (would that work?) -

I would disagree. I've seen articles about this and other cave paintings showing that the cave artists do much better than modern w/r/t body shape and things like accurate representation of 'gait' - knowing how a 4 footed animal moves its hind legs in conjunction with the front (for example). The commentary is that they were careful observers of their world. Modern hunters certainly know about the Rut and pastoralists know about selective breeding and the relationship between a mating animal and pregnancy. Heck biblical 'purity' of females is clearly aligned with childbirth and associated risks of pregnancy and the social costs (and if we think of the Old Testament / Torah as a written compilation of oral traditions, given that all the begats are in the book - mating certainly wasn't mysterious. Thus when your life and society depend upon knowing when what food will be available (and how successful hunting might be) - you tend to pay attention. I'm of the opinion our ancestors could easily have figured this out

London-based independent researcher has helped uncover a fascinating meaning behind Ice Age hunter-gatherers’ 20,000-year-old markings in cave drawings... ...The markings, when closely associated with animal images, further appeared to represent numbers for months on a lunar calendar and helped communicate the reproductive cycles of animals... “The results show that Ice Age hunter-gatherers were the first to use a systemic calendar and marks to record information about major ecological events within that calendar,” Pettitt said. “We’re able to show that these people ― who left a legacy of spectacular art in the caves of [France’s] Lascaux and [Spain’s] Altamira ― also left a record of early timekeeping that would eventually become commonplace among our species.” Amateur Sleuth Helps Unearth A 'Surreal' Finding In Ice Age Cave Drawings | HuffPost Latest News

I'm gonna say 'Nope' - presuming you dump drivers. I've danced across the line several times, as I've always prioritized price / performance ratio (why did you have to leave us TechReport??? Your graphs were my Bible!) Only thing that NV really has a massive lead in is RT - and that is such a niche eye-candy thing that I would not worry about it. Beyond that - both handle 4k well and can exceed the design specs of most games handily -
