I feel like I need to apologise for Kerbals
Rocket In My Pocket replied to Foxster's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I feel like this issue could be solved for everyone by just adding an option (Or make a mod) for opaque/reflective visors. (Also, they just look super cool, someone do this please!) You'd still have the Kerbals in the Career mode buildings... but it's a simple, easy fix that is actually reasonably possible and would alleviate the issue during the most important portion of the game; the actual game-play. -
Exploration Accolades
Rocket In My Pocket replied to The_Rocketeer's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I like the idea. Currently the planets might as well be giant single color polygon balls, there just isn't much incentive to explore them. This would also give permanent bases more of a use, as you could send rover expeditions to nearby sites of interest. -
I used to play KSP on a 2009 XPS laptop that was literally falling apart. It had been dropped and the hinge that let the screen rotate up was pretty much destroyed, I could only use it plugged in to an external monitor with a USB keyboard/mouse and the battery wouldn't hold a charge anymore so it had to plugged in at all times, the cord was finicky and if someone so much as even glanced at it the wrong way it would come unconnected and the computer would shut off immediately. I mean it was just terrible. I couldn't even dock with the space station I launched because the frame rate would drop into the single digits whenever I got within physics range of it, except for the times when it spontaneously exploded instead forcing me to reload, lol. As far as doing things that are creative or impressive don't sweat it. I've been playing KSP for years now and I've never gotten farther than sending a probe to Duna, but I love this game and I love playing it, even if I waste 4 hours designing something that doesn't work and gets nothing accomplished. Anyways don't let old hardware hold you back, it's better than having no computer at all and not being able to play KSP. Someday you'll get a better rig (I recently got a pretty cheap desktop that runs KSP max settings at 60fps and it was only $500 so it's not like you need some 5,000 dollar monstrosity.) and you'll look back on your days of gaming on that old potato fondly. I know it can be discouraging sometimes, especially when you see some Youtuber playing it at 3000fps on max settings in 4k on 3 different monitors. Your achievements mean more than his though, because you had to struggle harder for them, be proud of playing KSP at 15 fps, it shows you are a true fan of the game. Just remember that greatness doesn't come from having nice things, it's comes from adversity. The strongest swords are forged in the hottest fires.

Using shunts
Rocket In My Pocket replied to bigcalm's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Some players build one off giant monsters, some players build modular ships in space, other players send fleets of individual ships. I don't think there is any "wrong" way to do it, I'd wager most players default to building fairly large ships and refueling them in orbit when going long distance. As far as time spent, I think it comes out about the same when you take into account building one large ship and launching it versus building and launching and docking several smaller ships. It really comes down to whichever is more fun for you. -
I'm not sure what you are saying. Have you used the mod? You can place parts from any viewing angle. I've never had any problems perceiving depth when building? (Even with the terrible stock camera.) The game is three-dimensional after all. Also, whatever benefit it could (theoretically) provide is rendered moot due to the fact that only a very small percentage of users would be able to take advantage of it. Should Squad be making changes to the game everyone can enjoy or just a few?
-
*cough cough* WASD camera editor solves those issues. I highly recommend it. (Let's you fly around the VAB/SPH freely in 1st person while building, even letting you pass through the parts to view them from the interior.) Honestly, I don't know what Squad was thinking when they designed the default camera. https://github.com/linuxgurugamer/WasdEditorCameraContinued/releases/tag/0.6.7.2 Also, no one is saying that VR isn't "cool" or potentially "useful." We are just saying it's not the best possible use of Squad's time and resources at this point because it would only benefit an extremely small portion of the user base.

Will KSP get relased to mobile ?
Rocket In My Pocket replied to 64Bit's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
You've summed up my opinion perfectly. -
I'd say it's got a couple more false starts to go through, an "accessory" with an 800 dollar price tag is far from being mainstream. The computer I play KSP on costs less than that, with the monitor, keyboard/mouse, and the price of the actual game combined. From what I've read you need a fairly expensive gaming computer ($1,500+) to even run most VR games. So were talking a combined cost of over $2,300 and at that price point you still haven't bought any games to play on it! I'd hate to be a kid on Christmas trying to convince my parents to buy me something that doesn't provide any entertainment value without buying more software, as well as having already existing expensive hardware, and as we all know, if parents aren't buying it for their kids on X-mas, it isn't mainstream yet.
-
I'm not saying VR won't be a thing, or that it won't ever be successful. But, it's obviously going to go through some false starts like every popular technology has. (DVD's come to mind.) The user base is still very small, the price point is still too high, and the amount of "must have" titles for it is nil. Some day these problems will be mastered, but it's a ways away. Will the current generation of VR products take off? Probably not. Would KSP benefit from jumping onto a sinking ship? Probably not. Will early adopters who already own a VR headset ever accept this? ...Probably not.

@Ryder "The leading edge" as you call it, isn't doing so hot at the moment. http://www.ubergizmo.com/2016/09/htc-vive-oculus-rift-sales-flatline/ http://metro.co.uk/2016/09/06/vr-sales-flatline-as-early-adopter-market-dries-up-6112288/ http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/ "According to a recent 2016 Steam survey, it shows that only 0.18% of their users own a HTC Vive, and 0.10% own the Oculus Rift. It has also been found that HTC Vive sales only grew by a fraction of 0.3% in July, while the Oculus Rift grew by 0.1% in August, suggesting that sales of either device appear to have flatlined."

Yeah...I didn't even look at the image, I just read "Pyramids" and was like "yup!" Still, the answer stands, it's a known Easter egg, it's just from a mod. Thanks for the correction!
-
Yes, this is a known Easter Egg. http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/List_of_easter_eggs (Spoiler alert!) Congrats though! It must have been fun to find it without knowing it was there.

Where to have CoL
Rocket In My Pocket replied to Axilourous's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I typically place it just below and behind the COM for most standard plane designs. The markers should be close enough to be overlapping, like this: I find this gives a good trade off between stability and maneuverability. -
Apologies, didn't mean to leave out the penguins.

Alt + F12 or whatever Alt is on Mac if you have a Mac.

Where To Report Bootleg KSP Versions?
Rocket In My Pocket replied to Gianni1122's topic in Kerbal Network
It's some app on the Apple iTunes store I guess? I heard rumors about it on the steam forums. Hopefully squad can do something about it. -
Tourist Training Policy
Rocket In My Pocket replied to SpacePilotMax's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Same. Maybe call it "Emergency Preparation Training" or something. Basically they've been trained to don spacesuits and leave the spaceship in an emergency situation, but that's it. They should only have 1 unit of RCS fuel (as opposed to the usual 5) as well, just enough to get them over to a rescue ship. -
Anti G Flight Suit
Rocket In My Pocket replied to Moesly_Armlis's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
"Just metal boots?" I'm not buying it, no way their feet/ankles would fit in the space provided. I mean, if you look closely there is even a "Bolt/Nut" at the pivot point. Nintendo is just trying to cover this up, to protect their "kid friendly" image. They've since redesigned the entire team to have regular old boots. But it's clear that originally they had cybernetic replacement legs. Keep the truth alive brothers! -
Is there an alternate "save" mod ?
Rocket In My Pocket replied to dognosh's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Alt F9 does bring up a list of your named quick saves. Is it exactly what he asked for? No. It's the closest thing we have though and provides all the functionality one would really need. -
Anti G Flight Suit
Rocket In My Pocket replied to Moesly_Armlis's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Or do what the StarFox crew did and cut your own legs off so you can take more G's. Neat idea though, maybe it could tie in to upgrading the astronaut complex? -
Is there an alternate "save" mod ?
Rocket In My Pocket replied to dognosh's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Alt F5 and Alt F9. Named quick save and select quick load respectively. No mods needed, it's a stock function.
