KSP Interstellar Extended Continued Development Thread
Kertech replied to FreeThinker's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Hey, I was just wondering what the nature of the Near future patch was, someone else said that it nerfed the KSPI reactors, was just wondering if this was true or not before I install NF-Electrical -
Apologies for the long quote of myself, (and mobiles aren't great for text editing) I posted it a while back! My long term goal is FTL transport as I've just rechecked the chemical rocket estimate for a 200year transfer it'll take 11,000m/s! ooh and just noticed that this was when I built my apollo spacecraft that I flew today! Time goes too fast

The Apollo Applications Program: 1.0 Edition
Kertech replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Saturn Ib +CSM Saturn V + LM&CSM LM+CSM+S-IVb stage (same as the upper stage of the Ib) Completed Apollo VII and Apollo XI, just the testing missions to do (was impatient) -
So I've finished this (the craft has been sat in my save for later list for ages waiting for big enough boosters!!) Completed in 10 times scale (so kerbin is the size of earth etc.) with a lot of mods (see below) album contains all events noteworthy for points. above are just pretty pics! score: 3 man mission (10+), 2 man lander (10+), two stage lander with stage on mun (20+),launch escape system (10+), lander behind CM during ascent (20+), lander behind fairing (5+), free return trajectory (10+), no break on landing (10+), docking on LOR (10+), plant flag (3+), splash down (+5), initial goals (as in one rocket and no autopilot etc.) (30+) Total 143.

I finished off 25 probe missions to the 5 closest planets to Kerbin in my career (Harvest, Eve, Arkas, Mios and Duna) So now I not only have robust com systems around the 5 most accessible planets but also have enough science to get the final two massive rocketry nodes Saturn Ib mission So now on to something BIG!!!! My Saturn V!! And then "did it apollo style" (post-pendingtm now below) The V is basically the same as the Ib (as you can see), but with a big stage on the bottom and the surface rated engines for the first stage of the Ib were switched to vacuum suitable (dual penguins) Below just some stats on the scale world scale=10, atmosphere scaled to 1.42 (for karman line (100km) as space)

well as an avid nuclear explosion fan, the USI orion stuff ((in CTT) is in the "high efficiency nuclear propulsion" node, though really I feel it should be one further along in the experimental nuclear propulsion node (or split accross two different ones with different yield nukes for different nodes. As for regular tech I have no idea! Glad to know I wasn't going mad though, I've been playing hunt the part for a while now!!

I didn't check this thread for one day due to being busy and more than 25 awesome things occur! @SQUAD @UomoCapra Can the limit be raised at all, I feel the community is big enough to support 30-40 likes/day without it becoming a problem
-
hey just a question about career mode, I was wondering which node in tech tree it would appear in in CTT (and the normal tree as well) I can't seem to find it but it is around in sandbox

So I humbly submit the Wyvern mk3. Done in 10 times scale (atmosphere is 100,000m), so 9,300m/s deltaV is needed to make orbit. Therefore the tanks and booster and number of engines are all big (27 engines) Payload is a version of the fuel pod (that weighs more, haven't unlocked the relevant parts in career mode yet) Overshot KSP a little bit, gonna have to terra form the planet a bit though Reason been the I may have made the mountains too high to get any closer (Image taken at 75,000m, height above terrain is only about 7,00m at closest point!!!) Mod list

So not much exciting stuff, dropped a probe onto minmus (first of the save) Found a trace of karborundum though (torch drive coming up...) Did the Saturn-Ib Apollo CSM test mission for doing it apollo style Discovered what the plume looks like for 27 vectors at once Maiden voyage of the Wyvern 3 (few changes will be made for the next launch, including atmospheric engines after dropping in the drink) Bigger things coming up, first off, 25 probes to the local planet group (Arkas, Eve, Harvest, Mios and Dres) mun landings when the boosters are bigger and a continuation of the shuttle program!
-
That's fine, good luck
-
Aye that it does!!! What are the stats looking like on it? (e.g. TWR, DeltaV, dry and wet mass)! Definitely looking forward to this! Though not too soon, still got placement
-
I think my play style should raise questions, with a recently aquired radiation modelling mod I have added in an extra 15 ways to kill my kerbals just through base mechanics!! But based on this I'll definie myself as a USI MKS extra class "medic"

On kerbin I've been trialing Pathfinder, mixed with USI-LS and EPL (plus others) Trying to work out how Little I could send to a planet to have a semi functioning colony (mainpurpose being to make supplies and new crafts). First off my design for an atmospheric base starter pack (vacuum needs boosters!) Life support only lasts about 60 days, but that's okay.... next goal to over engineer a base to get it fully functional! first I shoved a starter module on a rocket and slung it north over booster bay Next build sometrailers packed with pathfinder stuff and hook it up to my buffalo Then drive for two hours (goodold rover autopilot though gonna put bon voyage in methinks) Then send Bill on along EVA (where you learn to enable no crash damage due to weird exploding glitch) All in all a satisfying base for little planning Now strippingit back to the minimum! In other parts of the program the Wyvern 2 was christened the Dianna and landed With her success two new Wyvern 2a's wereordered, alongside a 2b (bigger cargo bay now docking or extra crew) 2c (nuclear engine able to go to Mun and minmus) and 2 light were ordered (wyvern 3 is being developed from mk3 peices, but considering KCT expects it to take 100 days to build, better wait some). The 2light was finished quickly and completed a tourist LKO mission as planned Lastly I finally did my first 10k mun landing, with @akron's awesome new lander parts Launched an Identical mission to minmus, though accidentally picked a slow trajectory so gonna have to wait for 40 days! Happy Flying everyone!

Editing posts on iPhone turned out to be trickier than I thought! It kept deleting and re editing, turns out it's an iPhone chrome error

i always forget how much of this there is!

I spent last night building shuttles (was humming "every night I'm shuttling"...) Wyvern 1 Titchy little one, but then my biggest rocket in this save can only lift 15tonnes. I'll probably use it mainly cause those wings look great! But it's kind of a white elephant Then something bigger, The Wyvern 2 Gets to orbit with 1,800m/s, full docking capabilities, yet to test deorbiting though. Gonna need to make it a docking gantry though, it was a bit hairy trying to get it on the flush docking port and s currently blocking all bar the top port.

Been flying 10k missions again, procedural tanks new for this save (they're not really needed normally other than for looks, but I need the extra fuel space!) First satellite (big boosters for tiny payloads ) Later on (much later, I've set science to 50% so it's pretty grueling!) I ran a lunar flyby with a modified Calliope capsule (ranger configuration) instead of a crew compartment it has an orbital module (USI-LS for hab time) and triple the fuel! Launched on a Mu-IV heavy (about 15 tonnes to LKO) Sent crew and experiments up to olympus (after unlocking 3.75m parts I put up a science station, took a while) Calliope-2 so less dv, but more crew! Gem-1 which has two crew and an experiment transfer module for the Mole lab Both docked to Olympus station (I find that truss docking area thing quite satisfying for some reason) Lunar comnet array was put in orbit by Mu-Ia's (The atlas texture looks great on small rockets @Bornholio ) Now just waiting for another 500 science so I can get rockets big enough to put this in orbit And then do a few missions (and complete doing it Apollo style in 10k, and maybe apollo applications after whilst I got the infrastructure) Then after that I've started work on this But this is no where near done! for a start the RCS on this is not balanced and not enough monoprop Finally the long term goals for this save... So if you look closely at the images you can see two (one in each image) bright red stars. Those are phoenix and valentine. Career goal is to reach them. Conventional rockets will take over a 1000years to reach them at the most efficient path (which is only about 8,500 dv from LKO) so this save has a few mods to give the speed of light a kicking! If you now look back through the images you'll see them both sitting there, always good to have a goal that taunts you!

I love playing this sort of game! Somewhere I have a save where I've deleted all the stock parts and replaced them with BDB, tantares and HGR. Just a suggestion: pekbac industries has a good replica mercury LES, which is relative stock integrated! You know those yanks worry about the lives of their crews unlike the reds!

I was wondering about the antenas and dishes, not all appear to have remote tech patches (I'll grab a screenshot next time I boot up) just wondering if this is my end or not (cause I run a hell of a lot of mods) also with the thermal parts is it possible to have a config for interstellar's waste heat resource?

Past experience says they normally lead to a slightly startled rabbit

Nice mission and welcome to the forums

Well biochemistry degree is working

It looks like the Tantares mod (by @Beale) though it's actually 1.25m. If you want a bigger capsule home grown rockets do a 1.875m Soyuz replica (with retro rockets) @Triop is that the film "the cube"?

Thanks to @Bornholio's suggestion I installed SMURFF and retried 10k. Much much better, now that rockets actually get to orbit with a payload and look normal! Same payload before and afters Both launching this Then I tested the Athena booster ahead of manned flights Only Just made the payload to orbit grade (0.3 tonne leeway for a capsule and orbital system!) So next launch was manned Then spent 500,000 funds build asmall 2 unit space station (based around the MOLE) for more science! Unshown are many many hours of flying around to get science, starting to regret reducing my science slider!!!
