I've been up and down to eve about 10 times (I'll get the photos when I get back to my house, currently on placement in the middle of nowhere!) so I'll quickly put in my thoughts about what works. first it is the only planet I research a landing zone prior to mission. at least an ore scan and an altimeter map! I normally drop a plane probe on eve to fly over to the site prior as well just to scout out a flat region to target! Develop a reliable isru system preferably on wheels and have some way to connect it to your ship (kas pipes are so useful!!) it is often better for this to be autonomous! Send this ahead of your mission to your landing site, or else it is pointless going! Test your rockets ladders on the launch pad! launching, transporting and landing a rocket empty is so much easier! (Hence the research) if you send it down fuelled it can be a pain to land due to the weight breaking gear. Having the gear and chutes on decouplers is useful to shed weight in the lower atmosphere. More stacks means more drag. It is better to have boosters shed early and use a single core rocket. Aero spikes and vectors are almost essential for lower atmosphere! put air breaks at the top of your rocket in the shadow of your heat shield to keep it pointing the right way on reentry. my normal mission is: scan eve. Find an ore reserve near several biomes that's flat and high up. Send an isru rover and eve ascent vehicle down. Send down any other stuff (I play with life support and other difficulty stuff so having a base is essential!) then send the kerbal in an eve descent pod (standard capsule and parachute) to roughly the location, have them hook up the launcher and do some science. Get them back to orbit and get them home. The beauty of rovers on eves surface is that they are reusable!

I believe it's the buffalo rover pack

is it worth refueling before leaving SOI?
Kertech replied to Provisional Name 12's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Like @Snark said it depends on you. we on this forum seem to get all caught up in efficiency and delta v budget! Squad have said (a lot of times) they're not gonna give us that data because the game is meant to be trial and error! Whether you you agree with this principle or not it does underpin a lot of the games decisions! So so if the question is ever "should I do X or Y" the answer is try it and find out!! -
the rare times I do multiple missions to Eve or Tylo I tend to design a semi reusable ship. Orbital insertion and rendezvous stage with RCS, Lifesupport and coms, and an ascent stage which is expendable. It makes sense for all the extra stuff I have to make my games difficult. Eve and Tylo are pointless for resuable!

Kerbal Construction Time/StageRecovery Dev Thread
Kertech replied to magico13's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
just wondering if anyone else has found that anything recovered to SPH will change orientation so that the root faces up (like a rocket) -
Wondering what mods @linuxgurugamer isn't updating!?! Seriously keep up the good work!! (well apparently all this https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vS3F56EmMcfPgLPiMJrmlGo_Op1iLJoxYoEarnXpVNg/htmlview )

I read this and just decided to take a look

ummm well not until you pointed it out, I think it's right but only in context. Kerbal (meaning the game) is singular Kerbal (meaning the species) is singular or plural Kerbal (meaning an individual) is singular Kerbal (as a description (adjective) of being erratic or tendency to make something blow up) makes no sense with out a subject Kerbal (as an adverb meaning to do something with reckless disregard for laws of physics and engineering with more struts) could make sense but I'd rather not think so from the head of SpaceX (though would make sense...) So a better sentence taking this in mind is "kerbal kerbal is kerbal!"

Don't down your own achievement, even for those whose presence induces lag in reality from their incredible designs had to do interplanetary for the first time! Ive been doing it for about two years now and I still find it tough to get a good encounter! (Basically congrats)

The first ship/station to get over 250-300 parts in every save gets called the Lagatha, cause I merge save files a lot that means there's several Lagathas floating about causing time dilation with their mass!

How hard is docking
Kertech replied to Maxmaster084's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Easy with my less realistic approach, instead of lining up docking ports nicely then slow forward motion, I just set my ships sas to follow target, then plot straight ahead just translating to keep prograde over the target. Not the best technique, but works. (Yes I can do it properly but takes way longer!!) -
[WIP] Nert's Dev Thread - Current: various updates

I'd just never found your dev thread before (which is odd considering I've been using the NF stuff since starting ksp!) Thanks for the update on the other stuff!! -
[WIP] Nert's Dev Thread - Current: various updates
Kertech replied to Nertea's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
@Nertea which version of ksp is this for testing on? -
Sickle Mk1 was a lemming Issue was lack of lift, so the kerbal engineers decided to double the lift... I present the Sickle mk 2. My first SSTO Space-BiPlane Irritatingly my ascent didn't seem to get screen shotted However it is fully capable of lifting a 40 tonne fuel pod to LKO Before dramatically reentering too early and pretty steep (this was a test run) Getting too low I flew at high altitude (approx 20km and 1200m/s) over to ksc At which point the sun was setting Issues: Gear needs moving forward, needs an antenna and probe control system. wayy too much oxidiser Also thinking I could make this go interplanetary with a 40 tonne margin, just needs some nervas...

Decided to build a heavy spaceplane for delivering standard fuel pods (40 tonnes LKO). Useful amount of stuff to orbit but not ridiculous. Was having a lot of issues with generating enough lift to not lemming off the runway, eventually realised the best way to double my lift, Build a Biplane In a couple of weeks time expect something like this

I had been thinking for a while that the abort procedure wasn't normally necessary so never made LES towers, since came across this Essentially every now and then (1:50) times things will go south fast!

They are in BDB, under the structure tab, I just saw them and knew that from now on this would have to happen. Also there's a mod somewhere that does a countdown to launch...

Jeb became my first Kerbal to walk onto his spaceship! (and yes I was humming the music to apollo 13 to my self during this!)

Etiquette of moving to a game new version
Kertech replied to Martian Emigrant's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I tend to play the pre releases and also have some mod free sandbox saves, which are full of weird stuff. If I want to begin an "epic" save I start career mode off and merge all the ships floating around in these saves to give me stuff to find from a couple of years ago that I don't even remember building!
