What is the biggest mission failure you have ever had?
spacebrick3 replied to JacobJHC's topic in KSP1 Discussion
In 1.0.5, I attempted the Eve Return Mission. The lander was a huge monstrosity of SpaceY 5m parts and Vector engines, and was pushed to Eve by a huge transfer stage of around 11000 liquid fuel and 4 Nervs. Once it got there, the landing took some doing due to the lagginess, wobbliness of the structure, and the fact that the parachutes insisted on breaking every time. Once it was landed, I decoupled the parachutes and watched as the decoupler hit one of my fins, breaking it. "No problem," I thought, "I'll just reload the quick save and try again." I reload the quick save, and immediately one of the lander legs crumples, smashing the whole thing into the ground. This happens on multiple attempts, until one time it didn't crumple. "Okay," I thought, "I'll just plant the flag and leave. No need to jettison the parachutes." After climbing down the extensively tested ladder system and planting the flag, on the way back up it turns out the extensively tested ladder system doesn't work. I reload the quick save, and (after a couple tries), the lander leg doesn't break. I decide to just take off, and not even bother with a flag. But as soon as I hit "space", I discover the most basic design flaw. It does not have enough thrust to take off. Having jettisoned the lander legs on "takeoff" , the ship crashed into the ground, leaving a field of debris and Jeb sitting there in his Lander Can, smiling happily at the destruction all around him. I ragequit and delete the save as well as all my mods. -
So since the Rio 2016 Olympic Games open today, I though I would create an Olympic ring creation. Here it is: And here's the announcer formally opening the Games: The rings use the Surface Mounted Lights, a great mod created by @Why485 and updated by @IgorZ. Have any of you created something interesting for the Olympics? If so, please post it here!

Not even a planet can stop Mark Watney!

Wouldn't they try to talk to them first? After all, nobody but Kenlie and Lisa know that the Kerbulans are evil, and they might not be able to persuade the commanders of that fact.

official Stress out the Devs! (and KSP)
spacebrick3 replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I present to you the 1550-part monstrosity known as "The Stack of Separators" It is mostly made up of I-beams and stack separators (hence the "stack of separators") clipped together in a giant blob. When launched, it will shake and jitter, and some parts will appear to fly out of it, or "orbit" another part. (Picture from a slightly earlier version of the craft) The part is still attached, and will continue to fly up and down until the game crashes or it explodes. Decoupling all the stack separators at once will lead to game freeze and crash. Here you can see that KSP has stopped responding and crashed. If you decouple them 64 at a time (a staging icon), the game does not crash, but instead runs at about 1 FPS with the explosions. I am... SPACEBRICK3 AND YOU SHALL FEAR ME.... I was sent by the Committee to Regulate Forum Games Pertaining To Things That Are Deemed To Be Able To Be Described By An Adjective (CRFGPTTTADTBATBDBAA) I know that it is called Operation Blackbriar. What is your name? What is your excuse for being on Forum Games? Who created the 3x3x5 Rubiks Cube?

All rules must consist of only a single letter, and that letter can only be the letter numbered (with an error of +/- 1.01) at the current charge (in Joules) of your computer.

It worked! Thanks!

I decided to redirect my 5 science landers, originally destined for Moho, to Dres! Moho is just too a) small, b) inclined, c) close to the sun, and d) generally annoying in every way. The two Nuclear Candle engines generate a lot of heat, but the radiators take care of it. There's also some lag from the many-parted landers, but not too bad. EDIT: Nope. Imgur has died for me. If anyone can embed these images now, please help me. EDITEDIT: It worked!

Using a time machine, I go back in time before you claimed the hills and claim them all. I then create a temporal shield so that the hills stay forever in this point in time and exist nowhere else. The shield also protects from all forms of assault.

It did, and was even my K-Prize entry. As to the above VSSTO, 10/10: Looks nice, and I like the Mk.2 fuselage boosters. Imgur's still not working for me, so here's a link: http://imgur.com/a/oztkV (If anybody has figured out how to hyperlink forum text on a Mac, please tell me)

2/10 Old, and unrealistic. The G-forces would kill those astronauts in seconds. http://imgur.com/a/jt9fT (For those of you wondering, it's a Battlestar Galactica replica spaceplane) EDIT: Aaaand Imgur's not working. Image has been linked.

The Saga of Emiko Station - Complete
spacebrick3 replied to Just Jim's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Who is the Kerb in the old suits? Is the one "behind" the monolith an alternate universe version? Only time (or @Just Jim) will tell... -
Linus Kerman... maybe the monolith(s) did accomplish something after all! Maybe Linus is now part of the code of the S.A.V.E. and therefore can travel anywhere!

Basing on the size of your "helipad", I'm guessing Mohoball is where one side tries to get the ball into the Mohole and the other side tries to stop them? That's the only "goal" on Moho I can think of.

I'm concerned about Pol. Having read @Brotoro's Long-Term Laythe story, I think that Pol will not be kind to Gumdrops. I wish you the best of luck, and more-than-marginally acceptable slope. By the way, whatever happened to the egg? Is it still there?

1.9.0 or 2.0.5. Since I got it for Christmas off the KSP store (at 0.90), I had to buy it again off Steam at 1.0.5 for it to update.

Is every version a year in this mission report? I mean, this was a three-year journey, and this is 3 versions away from 1.1.

I heard a rumour that Cassini is not crashing into Saturn, the government is actually going to use it to seed life on Titan.

The Saga of Emiko Station - Complete
spacebrick3 replied to Just Jim's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Ooh! Maybe Minmus is a Magic Boulder! It would explain a) why it's in a perfectly circular orbit, and b) why the material doesn't melt even though it's too warm for it not to! -
I won't press it. I don't think either of those are good for the Earth in general. If you press the button, you know how to solve a Rubik's Cube but you can only solve really slow and terrible cubes.
