I like flat earth pilot - I think you could have some fun with that one but I would look at it from the other perspective - what would a pilot have to do differently if the world actually was flat.

Must have on rover?

Wheels. Just kidding, I always like to have a surface scanning module on my rovers. Saves you a lot of mouse clicks when trying to find biomes or looking for ore.. -
is it worth refueling before leaving SOI?
James Kerman replied to Provisional Name 12's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Once I have an ISRU landed on Minmus I launch a refuelling station in Kerbin orbit that I dock to and de-fuel returning Minmus vessels before de-orbiting. -
Control From Here Problem

You should also be able to scroll in through the fairing to see modules inside and interact with them. -
I just rescued Dilbert Kerman from lunar orbit.

Advertise with Lunar Bulldozers?
James Kerman replied to Jonfliesgoats's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I think it would be a fitting tribute to our corporate/commercial world if the only thing left of humanity was an earth with a runaway greenhouse effect and "enjoy coke" etched into the near face of the moon. -
I am liking the new contract system - particularly always having world first contacts available - I am using these to guide my space program. As to station/base contracts - I tend to build these craft so that the resources on board can be undocked, and connected to an orbital station for later use.

Kerbals on EVA have a mass of 94kg according to the latest version of Kerbal engineer redux.

You need moar boosters and kitchen renovations.

Docking is easy, it just requires patience. The first thing I do when setting up a dock is to match inclination with my target. Make a manoeuver node at either the An (ascending node) or Dn (descending node) and mess with it until you get as close to 0 as possible. Once you have matched inclination you need to make an orbit higher than your target if you are behind it (this means you will be travelling slower and your target will catch up to you) or make a lower orbit if you are behind your target. This may take some time if you are far away from your target but it will eventually get down to 20-30km. Once there I try to "almost" match my target's orbit remaining slightly above if the target is behind me or slightly below if I am chasing the target. At this point I quicksave. Once my target is within 10km or so I set up a manoeuver node and mess with it until I get an intercept of 2km or lower. So at this point I switch to RCS and align my target or anti-target marker with either the prograde marker or retrograde marker making small adjustments as I approach. I will then switch to the target vehicle and align it to have the docking port I want to hit with my approaching vessel. Slow and steady is the way to do this last stage and you should dock. You should create an imagur account and post the link into your post - it should automatically format.

Surface sample weight
James Kerman replied to James Kerman's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Same here. I experimented with this using the external command seats a few saves back. Shame they cant store science. -
I thought it might be interesting to assign additional weight to a vessel when a surface sample is brought on board. My thought process is that a surface sample requires no outboard science equipment so there should be some penalty to Dv for such a high value science return. I apologise if this has been suggested before, as I seem to be unable to search the forums right now.

In KSP I'd use the lander can, mate. In real life I think it would be cool to live on the surface of another world for 3 years (provided you could keep me safe from all the hazards) after all I spent 2 years Parabadoo and that's as close to Duna as you can get in Australia. Also I think I'd like Vicodin flavoured potatoes....

How would cuisine be developed in Space?
James Kerman replied to Jestersage's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Heston Blumenthal could probably cook up an edible rocket. Also, has NASA got any feasibility studies that combine a centrifuge and a deep fryer? -

Have you tried Kerbal Kommander?

There is some speculation as to if there is life in the clouds of Venus. An instrument that could detect complex organic matter in the atmosphere would be worthwhile.

Engineless orbiter and how to get it into space?
James Kerman replied to ImmaStegosaurus!'s topic in Science & Spaceflight
I have seen another model that sat on top of the Saturn (instead of being radially mounted) but I couldn't find the image. -
In my career save I have a fuel base on the Minmus Greater Flats. I thought it would be a good idea to have a automated rescue vessel for the inevitable contracts. I also thought having a few drinks while I was building it was a good idea... I almost always build sky-crane type craft to deliver things but for some reason (see above) I built an in-line return stage. On launching the return stage I realised I had destroyed the probe core and reaction wheel with engine exhaust. I try flying that thing (now renamed to "half-safe") occasionally for laughs and the inevitable explosion.
