  1. 1240 parts. 95320 units of solid fuel. 4 launches of a massive lifter. 1 more launch of a small lifter not necessary but preferred (who cares, I'm not going to launch it). The first climax of an idea I first had four months ago. 2056 tons. Wobbly. Kraken inducing. Hopefully it will subside with some autostrut juggling. SRB grand tour is ready for departure. First stop: Eve. EDIT: First stop, CKAN to install KAC. Second stop, Eve. Also, any ideas about what I should name this thing? For the life of me I can't come up with a good enough name...
  2. 1. No, unfortunately. 2. I was debating staying up (til 4 AM here) but I'm sick, tired, and I have quite a bit going on tomorrow. So, unless I wake up at 3 AM, I won't be around to see this one either... Which is a shame considering this is the second to last Delta II.
  3. If I wasn't already buried neck deep in stuff to do, I'd probably write a sci fi story about the last days of those planets...
  4. I'm currently making an attempt at a mostly solid fueled grand tour, which to my knowledge has not been done before.
  5. Yeah, this is happening to me as well. I was flying something to the polar saucer, then flew something else, and I loaded the first plane. It jumped about twenty meters into the air.
  6. Unless it's a career game or a situation where mass is incredibly crucial, the non retractable solar panels are almost never used. The panther and the goliath, I don't use much either (although they both have their niches).
  7. Unless it got deleted, this should be on Laythe somewhere: Along with three exploration planes, an SSTO, and a rover/glider thing. EDIT: It's got full ISRU capability, comms, power, and an outdoor dining table complete with beach umbrella.
  8. I know the story is on temporary hold, but I was picking crew for a mission and I found this: I guess he escaped through a gravioli portal into my universe? Should I risk taking him on a grand tour?
  9. The first test of the SRB grand tour ship has been completed. First off, before you call this a failure, I must say it was actually very successful.
  10. Alright, I know I've been in a phase of starting things and never finishing them... But I finally got over a hump on another project I've been working on and off for a few months on... I'm actually going to (try to) do this.
  11. Spore, where you can launch a decently sized model rocket to escape velocity...
  12. Hmm, at this scale, I wonder which would be more practical, a space elevator or a space escalator?
  13. I don't remember where I read this, but IIRC the idea was that there would be 12 unmanned N1 flights to work out the kinks (of which four flew - all failures) and two manned missions.
  14. One might be able to convince NASA to let them use Juno, but there's still the issue of not being able to talk to the probe for most of the interplanetary voyage (and more likely than not a course correction will probably be needed).
  15. Makes you wonder... If you could sort long distance communications out, one could probably design a Jupiter probing cubesat and a few solid kick stages, totaling a mass of under a metric ton, which could actually launch as a secondary payload...
  16. I have nominated Gilly as well.
  17. There was one guy, can't remember his name, who made a jet engine powered bulldozer to return an asteroid to KSC. It worked, but with a much smaller asteroid. I tried it myself without much success.
  18. My problem with K-drives in 1.3 is that I can't seem to get them to restart reliably. After a while, the legs break for some reason and they won't interact with the pusher.
  19. Ahh, okay. Carry on! Rule one, though. Nothing can be 100% idiot proof...
  20. What... What happened there... The image is a thousand words...
  21. Except we're talking about Dragon 1, an unmanned capsule. Normally there would be no need for it to be quickly openable from the outside.
