Yeah, no kidding... I've thought (for a whole 30 seconds ) and I've got a telescope, forests, a hopeful ISS flyover, decent weather, and an abandoned building I may or may not use, but nobody to go with... I might go by myself at one point, sounds fun.

Oh, so now we have a thread for this! I almost commented on WF/ITHIYLT? saying if that was made it would quickly become a huge thread but I didn't post it for some reason. So, uh, I'm in high school and you know how that goes... Especially for space geeks... And my town is so small I'm pretty sure I'm the only space geek my age in the wole place... And the girl I liked for a long while just came out as lesbian, so... And there's this other girl but she has a boyfriend and lives three states over... And there's pretty much no good spot to go on dates in this small town... ... So, uh, yeah. I exist, contrary to popular belief...

Yes, I am from Iowa. Not Iowa the state, but Iowa the country. You see, we seceded from Iowa the state in 2013 over the lack of an Iowa based space program, but nobody recognized us. Iowa, AKA Stratovogmnolia, consists of a few hundred square feet in my garage attic. BTW I should be doing my chemistry work right now but I'm using the school's chromebook to browse the forums... Oh, well, I've got an hour left in class anyway...

Both?

I found out there are sixteen orbital launch attempts scheduled for December. A few of them will probably get delayed into 2018 (five or six, I'd bet) but ten is still a lot! Currently, we've got: 3 Soyuz (questionable given the failure, but the crewed one I think doesn't use fregat so it should be fine). 3 Falcon 9 (Zuma, Iridium, and CRS. Also questionable, but doable. FH is almost undoubtedly 2018 now). 1 Epsilon (never seen one of those before, looks to be 3rd flight ever), 1 Electron (Hopefully they can get the GLXP team up in time). 1 Long March 3B (I need to learn what all the LM's are). 1 Long march 2 (see above). 1 Ariane 5. 1 Delta IV. 1 Zenit 3F (also never seen this one). 1 SS-520-5 (second attempt at a 2.6ton orbital launcher). And a PSLV (on the 30th, though, so probably will be delayed). Yay, rockets!

totm dec 2019 Russian Launch and Mission Thread
Ultimate Steve replied to tater's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Aww. Note to self, don't jinx it next time. So, we're looking at the stage pointing the wrong way. Like in KSP when you forget to "control from here" on the forward facing part, but probably not as extreme as that, and it is awfully similar to the 2014 failure @PB666 referenced. -

Mostly. You never know... A lot of the early-mid Protons had upper stage failures. I realize this is neither a Proton nor the 60's, but there's always a chance for failure. *crosses fingers for success* *knocks on wood* *Avoids the thirteenth step on the staircase on the way up to bed* -

So far. Remember, we still have 7 total Fregat burns and 18 deployments (although the last burn is the de-orbit burn). -

And, liftoff! Their animation has gotten so much better as of lately. -

As long as you did it without looking kind of dumb. -

...Somewhat? According to all known laws of aviation, is there a way bees are able to fly? -
I was just about to say that! NH is great, and I haven't even gone outside of the Sonnah system yet (playing with BARIS). Lots of nearby science available, the first moon is significantly nearer and cheaper to go to (DV wise) but is probably harder to get to difficulty wise.

Somebody once told me... SRSLY so annoying. It's been in my head on and off for a while now. At least it wasn't that entire week of the Tetris theme... -
Just got back from Thanksgiving break (only 3 days, but plus the weekend it was five days) and I'm already looking forward to Xmas break as well!

11:41 for me. Doable, but not ideal. -
I have a question about stock cfg files and part mass

Once I gave an engine 9999999... gimbal range but it rounded up to 100000..... Probably not related, but in case it is... -
Oh, that's the "Kaboom" mod, it comes up on every part and allows you to blow stuff up at will. I don't really intend to use it for the actual mission, it just happened to be installed. I will admit, though, I used it once (to get rid of residual strut nubs on the lander) but I'll reload the save and do it legitimately. Thanks for reminding me, I almost let that tiny bit of non-stock behavior through... Wouldn't want that to happen! Hahaha! Well, interestingly, I had landed, minimized KSP for about five minutes to do something else, and I checked and the wing was still flying. I went to record it but it only flew for another ten or so seconds before crashing. I think one of the other wings survived, though. It's currently on the steep side of the mountain, if I recall correctly. EDIT: I reloaded the save and I'm only sliding at 0.1-0.2m/s (down from 0.5m/s) and I still have EC left, so, yay! I don't need the roverplane!

Thank you for the kind words! As for SRB rendezvous, it's alright once you get the hang of it. The really hard part was designing everything. I think I started working on this back in June (!) and the two biggest challenges were the Eve lander and the launch vehicle. Originally the LV was supposed to take 1200t into orbit instead of 600t, but that didn't work out so well... And I managed to forget solar panels on the Eve lander (which is out of EC) so Steve is stuck on Eve for now. I'm in the middle of designing a rover/plane klaw thing with solar panels to rescue Steve (myself, I guess). I've also completed a Mk2 refueler, which is lighter, shorter, and should not have the Kraken problem. Hopefully.

totm nov 2023 SpaceX Discussion Thread
Ultimate Steve replied to Skylon's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Imagine if Portal 3 and Half Life 3 were the same game. Unless they're lying, Zuma was built by a different company (either LockMart or Northrup Grumman), so probably not StarLink. The two StarLink demo sats are already scheduled for a flight a few months down the line. I think it could be a real moneymaker for SpaceX, though (unless someone gets their constellation into orbit first), especially in rural areas.
