Design Challenge: Orbital Shuttle
Ultimate Steve replied to sevenperforce's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
My attempt is incoming soon! I'm going to try to make it a long range one. -
Yeah! I admit, I didn't realize it until I was uploading my save for Project BABYLON, because I had to title it with the date. I was planning on doing a chapter of Project Intrepid (P.I. Get it?) to commemorate today, but I got lost in Project BABYLON and five hours later it's too late for a chapter of PI.
-
Yes! IMO, second only to Laythe and sometimes Kerbin.
-
Note: I do not wish to hog the save file. Note 2: I do not wish to quadruple post. Note 3: Nobody has taken the save file or posted here. I now have the save again. I have three ships ready for launch right now: A battlecruiser (because space pirates), a set of two Laythe SSTO's (which can hold 9 Kerbals and make one way trips from Laythe to Vall) and a Vall base (so the SSTO's can refuel). I'll post as soon as I'm done. EDIT: double SSTO's and Vall base are on their way to Jool. The battlecruiser is giving me the most trouble. I tried launching it like a normal payload but it was too draggy and would snap the rocket in two. I am now attempting to launch it upside down slung underneath some gigantic boosters. EDIT: I have completed my "turn." There is now a Vall base (Courageous) which can refuel my fleet of two spaceplanes (ARKANGEL, currently Klawed to "Untitled Space Craft" and Space Tug No. 1 and Glaive Lord, currently landed at the Laythe base. Both are identical and can transport 9 Kerbals between the Laythe and Vall bases if the ISRU capabilities are used). There is also a battlecruiser (PROTECTOR) in a high Laythe orbit, in case of space pirates (Or the Hanland corporation). There is another tug in Vall orbit now, but it is out of fuel and may be repurposed as the core of a Vall space station. The newest save should be in the drive folder, the one marked 3-14-17. Wait a second... I just realized it's Pi day! Pictures: (Imgur is being weird today.) Okay, now the important stuff; Flight manual - Arkangel/Glaive Lord SSTO's. Action groups: 1 toggles RAPIER's. 2 switches RAPIER mode. 3 toggles the LV-N's. Other utilities: Full probe control, an RTG, full RCS control, a KLAW, a reverse thrust Thud for use on the surface, lots of ladders, two air brakes, and seats for 9. Range: If you are a skilled pilot, you can (on a full fuel load) take off from Laythe and go to Vall and refuel and come back to Laythe. Warnings: Do not attempt to land with an empty fuel load. The forward 2.5 to 1.25 meter adapter must have at least 200 units of fuel in it for the plane to be stable. Do not attempt to land on Laythe with a full fuel load. This will result in minimum glide speeds of 180 meters per second. It will be extremely difficult to land like this. Do not attempt to re-enter Laythe's atmosphere from anywhere other than low Laythe orbit. This will result in the Klaw and the Airbrakes overheating and exploding. When taking off from Laythe with a full fuel load, retract the larger set of rear landing gear and lower the smaller set. This will allow for a shorter takeoff distance. When you are landing on Laythe, spinning around like a madman is normal. I mean, it may look dangerous, but I consider it a feature! Ascent profile from Laythe: unklaw from base and use the Thud for one second to push back from the base. Steer east. Raise the larger set of rear landing gear and lower the small ones to create a larger angle of incidence. Go to full throttle on the Rapier's, using closed cycle for a few seconds may be necessary. Climb at 20 to 30 degrees and start gaining speed. You should be able to get your AP into space on the Rapier's alone. Use Rapiers in closed cycle mode to circularize. If rendezvousing (hey, I managed to spell that right!) then go to the space station without a care in the world. If going to Vall, burn to a Vall intercept using the LV-N's, saving some oxidizer for Vall landing. If something really bad has happened and you need to get to Kerbin right away, quickly fly to Untitled Space Craft and fill up your Liquid Fuel tanks leaving the oxidizer tanks empty. Transfer to Kerbin and pump all fuel backwards so you go backwards on Re-entry. Burn all of your fuel to go as slow as possible relative to Kerbin, wait out re-entry and bail out into the ocean. @Tada, can we get a list of stuff we need? Just for a start: More stuff on Laythe Smaller outposts on each of the Joolian Moons Full Comms coverage (to start, 3 sats in high Laythe Orbit) A refueler SSTO Rename Untitled Space Craft because it is an orbital storage site at this point Anyone else want to go before I get more ideas and go three times in a row?

The Jool Sarnus-10 Challenge
Ultimate Steve replied to Monkey Taylor's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
For my attempt I used KAC and KER. I would agree with BTW. These should be okay. But KJR does modify the actual spacecraft somewhat, so I'd clear it with @Monkey Taylor first. -
Quoteception! The countdown timer is to the launch, not the start of the stream. Which is a sign that it has probably been scrubbed. Reddit says scrub, SFN says scrub. See you all Thursday!
-
The question is, is it scrubbed until Thursday? Or until the end of the window? BTW, happy Tuesday!

Sorry for the triple post, but two things: 1. Does anyone still have the save file for Babylon: Derelict? It sounds interesting, as well as the idea for this sequel. But all of the links in the thread are broken, as far as I can tell. 2. I am beginning work on several other ships, to be launched when nobody is using the save. Also, how did I do on the base?
-
{Sorry, I did it wrong}
-
There's always a chance and we have a long window! But, really, I'll take any excuse to stay up until 1 AM over spring break!
-
I'd rather not press it. I don't think I exist in strangereal! If you press the button you get locked in a warehouse for a month. The warehouse contains only bean boozled for food (but you have water). If you survive the month only on Bean Boozled, you get to go to the ISS sometime this year. To anyone who has never played Bean Boozled the choice is obvious. Speaking as someone who has played bean boozled... well, if you say yes, only eat the light blue and green ones. Whatever you do, do NOT eat the black ones!
-
Sorry. I did not consider that. But, in general, (probably) 99% of the modding community would stick to the current release. Correct. However, I have a really soft spot for anything nostalgic, but that is probably just me. There are a few other reasons, though. Like save file recovery (admittedly niche), simulating time travel (even more niche) and messing around with infiniglide (slightly less niche). It has been suggested before. And wouldn't (I'm not a hardcore coder, so I may be wrong here) take that much time to do. But, yes. I see your point.
-
Okay, I have finished! The zip file is in the drive folder. It should be the one labeled 3-13-17. I added two things in one launch: A medium sized base, as well as a nuclear tug capable of transporting 100 tons between Kerbin and Laythe (provided you can somehow refuel it). Pictures: That was fun! I'll definitely contribute again soon!
-
If it isn't, then I did something really, really wrong. I'm pretty sure you can join. AFAIK we need to build infrastructure in the Jool system for a future challenge. For now, it's like the Community Space Station (except we can do whatever we want as long as it's Jool related) and you can have the save after I'm done with it. I'm using it right now. EDIT: reserve a spot on the calendar (link above). I am currently en route to Jool and have completed my course correction/plane change burn.
-
Correct! Man, that was ages ago...
-
Well, not to advertise, but I had the same idea when starting my mission report! As far as the relevant topic goes, you can't really break the terrain in KSP, you'd have to make artificial terrain in KK that sits on top of the real terrain. Either that, or mod in a sort of portal, like Kerbolquest did with the tracking station. Ahh, nostalgia! Back when it was Kerbolquest and Kerbin City...
-
If nobody else has it right now, I now have it. (The calendar and the drive save file are still the current ones, right?) I am planning on launching a large Vall Base. Also, is it all right if I teleport one of my more epic space stations to a Laythe orbit? EDIT: There is no Laythe Base. Vall base is now Laythe Base. EDIT2: Launching now. *20 seconds later* Yeah, it needs another ton of struts... Also, when I'm done, there should be a Brotoro-style (albeit bigger) nuclear tug orbiting Laythe. EDIT3: Launch attempt #2. Held together, but the second stage does not have enough thrust to make orbit. I am changing my reservation to 9:00. Also, I need to mount the heat shields further back, as well as fix all of the staging... EDIT4: I just realized I've got all night because of the SpaceX launch I'm staying up for. As I type, the transfer burn is taking place.

Unfortunately, that would be somewhat illegal as there is no accurate way to prove you really own KSP (I mean, we believe you, but as far as the law is concerned) and 0.15 was a paid version. You can find the versions 0.7.3 to 0.13.3 on a forum page somewhere (Don't have the link) but as far as 0.15 is concerned, I can't help you. However, if you know someone IRL who has 0.15 you might be able to do file sharing (although that is also technically illegal). Squad, it would be a great option if an the downloads page we could have a version archive so we could have access to all versions.

Project Intrepid (Chapter 61 - The Sirens Of Moho)
Ultimate Steve replied to Ultimate Steve's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Science: Well, we're in sandbox mode, but, still! Yay for science! Dres: See part 38. Awesome Montages: Yeah! Part 38: The Time Traveler -
Okay, if this is starting again, I have found two: One Cyan, one Orange. You know how some people try for hours with Hyperedit to get these? I feel slightly guilty. I have visited four (!) asteroids in the same mission, the only four I have visited since the boulders were added. And my success rate is 50%...

Project Intrepid (Chapter 61 - The Sirens Of Moho)
Ultimate Steve replied to Ultimate Steve's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Hmm. Well, they could do it the hard way and fly their ship back to the Mun. But they have a Magic Boulder at their disposal... But Tomfurt already has plans for the boulder (spoilers! ). That brings up the important question: Are Hudson and Tomfurt enemies or allies? *DUN DUN DUN!* Yeah, I was somewhat worried it wouldn't survive! But, actually I can't even shut the cargo bay now. The Cupola exploded! Also, I completely redid the OP! It now includes this image montage! Let me know what you think of the new OP! -
I was going to make that reference! Well, we know the ultimate question now: What is the seed of the universe?
