"Even if you need to rescue the rescue team's rescue team, you're not playing the game wrong. Not by a long shot." "The secret to launching awesome motherships and pulling off clutch rescues at the last minute is to have "The Final Countdown" playing in a loop in the background." Both from me. "If your only tool is a booster, all of your problems start looking like gravity." -I forget who, but it is a great KSP quote.

Minmus has more science, more resources, is cheaper in DV to get to, is easy to get into orbit of, and has these easy landing spots. The Mun has more easter eggs, requires less planning to get to, and has extremely dramatic terrain (procedural generation FTW!), plus Kerbin is larger in the sky, making for better screenshots, and therefore is a better setting for mission reports. I think they're fairly equal.

If it makes you feel any better, a year on Kerbin is only 106.5 Earth days, meaning it takes about 3.5 Kerbin years to match an Earth year.

Unconsiousness settings?!

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's under advanced settings when you start a new save. "Enable Kerbal G-force Limits" or something like that. -

Welcome to my latest mission report, Nightmares! This story is about a Jool-Sarnus 10 mission - which is like a Jool 5 but with the Outer Planets Mod - and you have to go to all five moons of Sarnus as well as the five moons of Jool. Nightmares consists of 13 different parts. There are a few other things to note about Nightmares, the biggest being that it takes place in the same universe as my other major mission report, Project Intrepid (link in my sig). Nightmares is intended to be a backstory/flashback that should help explain some things about Project Intrepid. I suggest that you read it first before you read this. But in case you can't put up with the first ten parts of PI (which are very poorly written in places) here's the gist - nuclear war irradiates Kerbin forcing all kerbals underground. 50 years later they find out that a black hole is on course for the Kerbol system and that everyone will die in 200 years. Then, KSC starts building giant motherships to attempt to evacuate the Kerbol system. Nightmares is the story of a single mission which takes place several decades before Project Intrepid. Mod list: Outer Planets Mod (To get Sarnus) Kerbal Engineer Redux (Without it this mission would be basically impossible) Kerbal Alarm Clock (Transfer windows) HyperEdit (For testing only.) Part list: So, here we go! Part I - The Chance!

Project Intrepid (Chapter 61 - The Sirens Of Moho)
Ultimate Steve replied to Ultimate Steve's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
It's been a long time. But don't get excited. Part 35 is very short - and It will be a long time until Part 36, for a reason you will find out in Part 35. So here's part 35: The Confession. -
The Jool Sarnus-10 Challenge
Ultimate Steve replied to Monkey Taylor's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Sorry for the triple post, but I've finished. Here is Tylo: Laythe: Vall (My first Vall landing ever): Bop: The real Kerbin landing: The Kerbin landing that I'll be using in my full mission report of this: Yes, you heard it. I'm planning on doing a full writeup. It will take place in the same universe as Project Intrepid, but over 50 years earlier, and will be a miniseries with around 13 parts. Montage image of all the landing pics coming soon. -
map view change?
Ultimate Steve replied to rockets-don't-make-toast's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Oh. Sorry. Didn't understand it fully. Yes, actually this would be useful! This gets my vote. But for now, you can place a maneuver node and focus on that. As long as it is on your orbital path. -
map view change?

You can. Press tab to cycle your focus. -Steve. -
Also, don't forget that unless you're really far out from the sun, their SOI's probably won't be that big. Some probably have SOI's smaller than the actual asteroid.

The Jool Sarnus-10 Challenge

It's been a while. As I type this, I'm burning for Jool. Here are the Ovok and Eeloo landings: EDIT: Ah, darn. Now I have to warp ten years. Which is nearly an hour real time. Darn. EDIT2: 7 years left. EDIT 3: 3 years. There isn't a time warp mod updated to 1.2 yet. -
Well, @wile1411 did a waaaaay better job than me at assembling them. But I'm finished! Bonus: Papercraft of the first rocket I ever made in KSP, and a model rocket of mine that recently exploded. Val and the Jumping Flea are glued. The rest are tape.
-
Oh my... This is going to take a while to glue together.

Is there a stock part you never actually use?
Ultimate Steve replied to Sharpy's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Okay, I'm going to go grab a bowl of chex mix and go through the list. PODS - I use everything here at least a bit. Hecs2 and drone core are IMO the least useful of the high tech ones, but I still use them sometimes. the Stayputnik is the real useless one. TANKS - I use everything here, but some less often than others. RCS TANKS - Meh. Probably just the mk2 one. I use the Xenon and Ore tanks. ENGINES - Don't use Spider or Ant much. I actually really like the Puff, however. Found a few uses for it. You can literally stick one on a lander can and that can be a minmus lander. The 1.25m engines, especially T30, don't see much use after early career. I don't really use panther or Goliath. I don't use the fly by wire system. STRUCTURAL - Again, everything I've used at least once. I don't really use the multi-adapters that often. I don't use the hardpoint/pylon. I don't use the inline or mk2 clamp-o-trons. Nor most of the intakes. I don't use most of the radiators. And that's about it, skipping odds and ends like the standard canard, wings, and the terrible starting wheels. Oh, yeah. The micronode is pretty useless. -
*cough*
-
I've got all 6 so far. Man, that flea was a pain to assemble that much. 10% of the time was actually gluing the thing, 20% of the time I spent on it was banging my glue bottle on my desk to get the last few drops of glue out of the bottom (I should get a new bottle. Or use a glue stick. Tape doesn't really look great.) 10% was everything else, and 60% of the time was cutting out those tiny annoying triangles. Watch the last one be a twenty page 3 foot tall Kerbal X that will take weeks to assemble.

So. Working on SSE V again today. Decided to add a bigger ring because the other one was waaaaay too small. I think I might have made this one a bit too big.
-
It'll happen when pigs fly. *slowly walks away*
-
Aww... I've been busy so I've printed the most recent two papercrafts but haven't assembled them yet. Only recently did I realize that when I printed the jumping flea it printed three pages but it was page one and two page three's - no page two. So I got the pod and nozzle and fins, but I don't have the body of the booster.

I saw a video of a massive space station being deorbited earlier today. So I decided it was time to build another space station. Space Station Epic I was my first station ever. SSE2 and SSE3 were slightly better, and at least one of those was in career mode. SSE4 was my biggest space station ever. Emphasis on "was." I began building Space Station Epic V. Maybe about half finished. Need to add a bigger ring, a huge hab, a docking array, a space dock, an observation tower, and LOTS of escape pods. Yes, I'm planning to de-orbit it eventually and make a video of it.

Best First Flight
Ultimate Steve replied to sevenperforce's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I'll give it a go, however I think that scoring should be based off of altitude. You could have separate leaderboards for each, however. EDIT: I tried it. Rocket: Just under mass limit. The 3 outer boosters are set to 98 solid fuel, everything else is full. Decoupling was done explosively. 1891m/s max speed. Actually a bit more, but It's hard to time the screenshots accurately. 338140m max altitude. I just realized I forgot to drain the monopropellant, so there is room for improvement. -
"And bold Jebediah Kerman becomes the first Kerbal on Minmus and promptly falls on his face. While getting up, he... uh, kicked his lander two meters." -Me, 2013 ish. My first Minmus landing ever.
