orbital velocity on the mun at 10k is about 500 m/s plus or minus. So on the surface lets just round it to 600 m/s. if you car goes that fast then you will surely reach escape velocity.

good thinking!

alright thanks. Im using a pretty beefy system but it is old. Howver with EVE and SVT and outer planets mod as well as ton of parts packs my game crawled at the lower end of yellow time physics, even in orbit. So im guessing my system probably can't handle this mod. I need a new rig haha at least a processor upgrade for current one.

I might have to try GPP, also might have to move back over to that skybox, i forgot how good it looked. Im using his standard milkyway one right now. how hard on your system performance is GPP?

sounds good buddy. Even if no one has interest in it. Im still gonna make it up and post my results. I think it will be a blast. Will re-write the post with rules and such then try to figure out how to upload the save file. Its going to be a few days.

Poods infant nebula skybox! i love it!

@Triop would you be interested in doing a Munar Dakar? Im thinking stage 1 will be from launchpad to the beginning of stage 2, which would be in the canyons to the east or north of the East farside crater or farside crater, respectively. From there one would travel down the canyon towards the respected crater then around the outside of the crater rim, upper or lower, ending back at the lander. Final stage will be landing back at KSC within 100km radius of ksc. my intial thoughts. thought since you are a veteran Dakarian i'd see what you thought. This will not only test driving and rover design but rocket design as well. It would be quite interesting on Minmus as well with the added complication of lower gravity. Let me know your thoughts. If it shows interest I will set up the course along with my submission. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the Munar Dakar Challenge. 7 stages of I what I presume to be hell. The Challenge will include rocket and rover design. Stage 1 will start at Kerbal Space Center launch pad. Stage 2 will begin at the mouth of the canyon to the East of the Mun's East Farside Crater. From there it is pretty standard. Stage 7 will encompass all previous stages distances and will end upon returning to KSC, THE ROVER DOES NOT NEED TO COME BACK TO KERBIN. The Stage 1 flag will also represent the end of stage 7. From here you will be given a 75km radius (edits to come?) for every km outside this radius. 1 second will be added to your total time. There will be 3 categories; stock, modded (referring to modded parts only), and casual. Within these categories there will be two sub categories; rocket powered/combination (only if rocket is propelling you forward) and wheel/electric only (you may use thrusters/rockets for added gravity). The casual category will allow quick saving and reloading as well as unbreakable parts. I would prefer this to be along the lines of the Dakar 2017 challenge wherein the vehicle must be moving at 0.0 m/s at the start and end of each stage. However, given that this is the Mun and there may be sliding issues we may need to think of something else. Rules 1. If you vehicle cannot be repaired with KIS and KAS it is a DQ. Having KIS and KAS does not automatically mean you will be categorized into the modded group. 2. Quicksaving and reloading are not allowed (unless you state casual category in submission). 3. You will have 6 hours to complete each stage. Once a stage has finished you are free to take as much time as you would like. (stage 1 and stage 7 may take longer than 6 hours depending on how you decide to approach the transfer) 4. Be creative and have fun! Here is the link to the save file. Let me know if this works. .rar-https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2ep0U6uAcqeckxIVjExR2s4LVU and the .zip-https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2ep0U6uAcqecVVxVzZFeENpNWc download the .rar/zip file. and extract the "Official Munar Dakar 2017 folder the "saves" folder in your KSP directory.

Yesterday was quite productive at the Trehus Propulsion Labs space center. outstanding contracts were completed in anticipation of the arrival of Duna Probe I. Which included some high altitude satellite contracts fitted with the newly researched RA-100 relay along with 2 rescue missions from the moon. about 160 days later our first Duna probe arrived and circularized it's orbit sending scientific data back to Kerbin. Due to transmission oversights, The probe is fitted with extra science studies. So the boys in the lab are determining if landing on Ike is viable. As the probe is now, it has 3000+ m/s of dv in the tanks. Its either land at Ike and biome hop or transfer deeper into the Kerbin system to collect science from more distance bodies. The only issue with that is com net range may be an issue.

How do you guys refer to "being of a planet/moon"?

how about dunanites? -
I can't recall the last time I used it. After the first couple missions in career, the next probe core is unlocked.

I have never noticed it until recently in all the years ive been playing. so i just assumed it was a new feature. I don't know how many times i have held retrograde only to be violently swung about with zero horizontal velicity i might add just because i started flying up instead of down. I only found out about this when i was being careless and forgot to change the holding on a decent. i over throttled and and started gaining altitude but my SAS was switched from retro to SAS.
-
ruggedized vehicular wheels. i can check to see if i have one. at the time i was only thinking about taking one when my velocity read 0.0 so i could stop the clock haha
-
Happened to me during Dakar 2017 at the end of stage 3 or 4. With brakes on, i was sliding on a very tame slope at .3m/s. very frustrating as i couldn't stop the clock until i was at 0 m/s.
-
it sure does. did you test with a pilot or a probe. The pilot steering may differ from stability assist on probe cores.
-
One thing I like very much is related to SAS. When targeting surface retrograde and landing, if you over throttle and start flying up, SAS switches to SAS hold instead of flipping your craft 180 degrees to chase the retrograde marker. especially useful when only a couple meters above the surface.

This has happened to me as well.....

stack decouplers hollow?
Leafbaron replied to Leafbaron's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Sal, Thank you for your reply! I was trying to make a bushing using stack decouplers with an I-beam in the middle for a stock suspension and couldn't figure out why it just kept exploding after decoupling or just popping out. -
stack decouplers hollow?
Leafbaron replied to Leafbaron's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
would have loved to do an experiment, unfortunately I am unable to play ksp for the foreseeable future, real life can get in the way you know? wanted to ask before I forgot. Thanks for testing everybody! -
Was just curious if anyone knows if stack decouplers are modeled to be hollow. Meaning something can pass through the middle without colliding with the entire decoupler.

it seems like I can play for extended periods of time, and have. Some times I sit down at 6 pm after dinner and work and poof. Before I know it, it's midnight and the wife is all liquided off, haha

what we need for Eve is a scramjet type engine, that generates static charge from the thick atmosphere to power lasers to break the co2 into c and o2, the o2 then can be used to ignite the ethane in the atmosphere. Electric jet propulsion on eve! of course you'd still need chemical rockets to achieve the speeds to get the scramjet fired up.

get KIS and KAS pronto and send an engineer up to attach some.

The Official Kerbal Dakar 2017
Leafbaron replied to Triop's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
been trying to figure out a way to create a stock suspension system using landing legs. progress is slow and there is nothing to show. Maybe someone better than I can come up with something. The idea was to make a stock bearing but have one end attached to the landing leg. to maintain control over the wheels i thought plugging each axle into a winch from KIS KAS would work -
