Bad week for private spaceflight ... first Antares and now, a feew days later, the Virgin Spaceship 2
-
Not to forget that it is also extremly convenient (for the developers and users) with regards to the release of updates and DLC
-
As Airbornem4 said. Civ V is a Steam game ... therefore you won´t get around making a Steam account and installing the Steam client, if you want to play Civ V, even if you bought a physical version of the game

Yesterday (10 chars)

Well, according to the Elite-Ranking Ladder the next game should be named Elite: Deadly ... and the one after that Elite: Elite after that they run into problems as the ranking ladder officially stops there ... I guess the only possible step-up from this might be Elite: David Braben

I guess everyone from Australia/NZ/Asia who prepurchased CBE is now already busy playing it -
Civilization Beyond Earth "The Choosen Ones" intro video
Godot replied to stargazer1235's topic in The Lounge
Well, from the video it seems rather that the rockets just are launched into orbit, where the colonists are unloaded into the actual interstellar mothership. Of course, considering that each of the rockets doesn´t just carry a 3 man capsule + lunar lander, but instead a large number of colonists, they surely must be at least as powerful as a Saturn rocket ... even if it is "just" into orbit. -
Well, there are Steam sales and Steam sales ... that one or 2 games are on sale throughout a week is just a "normal sale". What I am talking about, however, are the big Steam sales... that means Summer Sale, Winter Sale and Halloween Sale with one or more weeks of ~100 sales / day (and the sales daily changing) So, from the information that you got 1-2 games reduced I wouldn´t be able to deduct, if you already experienced one of the large Steam sales
-
And you haen´t even experienced the Steam Sales, where games are reduced by 75% and more and the incentive to empty your wallet is even higher

Anyone tried Rescue Lodorf Kerman?

One should add that [ and ] only is valid for QWERTY Keyboards. If you use QWERTZ, the correct keys for switching between vessels are ß and ´ -
The activity of the brain doesn´t stop during sleep ... it follows just other (regulatd) patterns. My example only referred to your case C, where you replaced the whole brain within short time (and where therefore the brain activity would get disrupted). No. I don´t know if you know anything about object oriented programming. If yes, here IMHO a good example that illustrates it: Lets say the Self is a class object (with the class object being initialized with the configuration of the brain). If the self of all (copies) of a brain would be identical then we would have just one unique class object (the original self) ... and the self of the other brains just being pointers that point to this original self. This view however is incorrect Each Self rather is its own class object (but all class objects have been initialized with the same variables). That means, although all selves are based on the same set of variables (and would react identical), each self is its own unique object. If you delete one of these Self-Objects, you would delete a unique entity even though you would have several copies left that would show exactly the same output as the one that you deleted.

There is a big difference between replacing the brain all at once and slowly replacing it, small piece by small piece. Our selves are the result of the brain activity of the whole brain (or perhaps the activity of a network of "observer neurons")... so if you just replace a small of the brain part by synthetic parts, the remaining brain can adapt to this, incorporate the "new" parts of the brain into the self and create a continuity in our self. If we just replace the whole brain all at once, the continuity is disrupted. The self of the new brain might still belief that it is the former self ... but fact is that the old self got destroyed with the removal of the old brain. So, the comparison of lajoswinkler with the teleporting problem is definitely valid. If we (theoretically) would be able to totally scan a brain up to the molecular level and therefore would be able to create 1:1 copies of a canned brain ... and then would create multiple copies of the same brain, each of the brains would believe to be the former self (but only the original scanned brain [if it survives the scanning] would house the original self ... whereas the copies would all be their own individual selves)

So, to clarify: By this definition even a stage that ejects a single radial decoupler (with nothing hanging on it) would be a stage as, despite the mass being rather small (50 kg), it would still result in the rocket losing mass (similarly would the ejection of fairings count as stage, as they have mass) A stage in which you just ignite an engine however wouldn´t count as stage (no lost mass) and neither would be the disconnection of rocket parts during aerobraking upon return count as stage (no increase in velocity) (in my case this would increase the stage count for orbiting Kerbin from 1-2 to 3-4 (as I have 1-2 stages for ejecting fairings [playing with FAR and procedural fairings]) and for interplanetary flight from 1-2 to 2-3 [1 stage for ejection of fairings that protected the lander], bringing the total number of stages into the 7-8 range [from formerly 5-6])

What do you think about new "Sid Meier's Civilization beyond Earth"?
Godot replied to Pawelk198604's topic in The Lounge
Spiritual Successor I guess. It game play, according to the videos and the like, it will be closer to Civ V (on an alien planet) than to the original SMAC/SMAX. Guess the main similarities lie in one of the ideologies (Harmony) being able to use the alien lifeforms as weapons (similarly to Lady Deidres faction in SMAC) -
Lockheed claims breakthrough on fusion energy project
Godot replied to Argylas's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Guess if they manage to create fusion reactors small enough to fit into a tank, it could be a breakthrough for weapons technology. Like tanks getting equipped with Railguns instead of normal cannons (guess that would also greatly increase the amount of ammo they can carry with them, as the projectiles for Railguns don´t need any propellant charge to be included with the projectile) -
There are Star Citizen Threads (as you could have found out by a simple forums search ): http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/52194-Star-citizen-pledgeaggedon-is-today%21?highlight=star+citizen http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/48075-Star-Citizen?highlight=star+citizen As for the lack of activity there ... you shouldn´t be all too surprised about this. After all there isn´t too much content yet ... just dogfighting and a Rallye

For a Mun Lander-Mission : -1-2 stages to orbit. -1-2 stages interplanetary (included Mun and back) -1 stage for the Mun lander itself (usually not a true stage, rather a docking module that connects the lander to the main ship) Those only are the functional stages (that really decouple engines and/or tanks) but not stages that release parachutes or release fairings or heatshields (which, if counted as well, would increase the number of stages, but also would greatly increase the variability of stage numbers)

I like it so far .... but it will get even better when mining and fuel scooping get implemented and they do a little bit more bugfixing.

Eva fuel refill RCS convert to Eva fuel

And/Or maybe it would be good if you could flag Monoprop tanks for EVA use only -
Eva fuel refill RCS convert to Eva fuel
Godot replied to REViEWGMINGMAN's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
On a sidenote: Ineresting tradition the russians have/had (according to the article): I wonder how female Cosmonauts fulfill this tradition? If they don´t do it yet, a FUD would be of great help there -
Anyone tried Rescue Lodorf Kerman?
Godot replied to Gurthang99's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
And best you wait for the start of your rescue rocket, till the Kerbal is in its orbit short before reaching the region directly above the Kerbal Space Center. This saves you dV, as you will only have to equalize a short distance between your rockets location in orbit and that of the Kerbal -
a circular orbit has no apoapsis/periapsis!
Godot replied to rainerd66's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
As Paolino said ... I don´t think you will be able to complately nullify the difference between APO and PERI... there will always be a small difference, even if it is just a few mm -
You could think about using Kerbal Construction Time. This mod for the one thing makes your rocket building take time ... for the other one it allows you to simulate your launches (revertible, but thesimulated flights cost a small amount of money and don´t accomplish anything) Another mod would be Simulate, Revert, Launch which coencentrates on the ability to do simulations. Both would be mods that make you simulate starts without having to rebuild your rockets.

Eva fuel refill RCS convert to Eva fuel
Godot replied to REViEWGMINGMAN's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Actually there would be a way to get around this: -Either they give you a warning before exiting without EVA fuel -and/or you have something like a lifeline connecting your Kerbal to the capsule (and you have to disconnect if you want to move further away than a certain distance from your capsule). If the Krbal is connected to the lifeline he can use it to return to the capsules ladder. Both things hat not only are realistic, but with regards to the lifeline it also provides a mean to quickly get back to the capsule if your Kerbal inadvertedly gets disconnected from the capsule (like it occasionally happens with the 1 man capsule in 0.25 [it would have saved the life of Bob in my game])
