For the first time in I don't even know how long...

Machete Order is 4,5, 2,3 and then 6? Why not watching htwm in the correct order ... 4-6 then 2-3? -
I don´t care about Modpacks (easy enough to put together my own selection of mods). But regarding the question whether they ae legal/ethical ... as others said, as long as you have the permission of the modmakers (or they explicitely state in their Readmes/License Areements that they don´t mind them being included in Modpacks and being distributed by someone else) I wouldn´t see any problems with it

I only play challenge mode since it has been introduced: Mods: FAR DRE Tac Life Support Artificial restrictions: Launch Rescue System in every manned rocket if possible (as soon as I have the separation boosters) Every stage that has a chance to be recovered (due to being separated within the atmosphere/ before orbit) gets enough parachutes to have a chance to land on Kerbin unharmed enough to be recovered by my recovery teams (which, of course, aren´t implemented ... it is just for roleplaying purposes) In 0.22 (where science modules didn´t get depleted due to use) I also restrictd myself on manned missions to a single transmission per Science-Module type and Biome (forcing myself to bring scientific results home, instead of depleting the Biomes by transmissioins alone)

That´s what answering machines are for .. I always let the answering machine run first ... if I hear a familiar voice (after the announcement of the answerng machine), I answer the call ... else, either the call was unimportant, or it was just spam, which is not worth my time (like telephone surveys or marketing calls).

If it is about system simulation, then the Mustang for the Digital Combat Simulator probably would be a good choice: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/products/mustang/ Unfortunately at the moment it is the only WW2-Plane in the DCS (all other Planes/Copters are modern ones) and it also has no single player scenario

What is the absolutely first game you remember playing?
Godot replied to 11of10's topic in The Lounge
LOL yes ... I also remember my very very first programming steps on the C-64 in Commodore-Basic. It was planned be the sprite of a rocket, that starts from teh ground and ascends into the sky and involved lots of Peeks and Pokes. Well, due to my beginners programming skills, the rocket turned out to move across the screen from left to right (and reentering on the left after it left on the right), all the while bouncing between the bottom and the top of the screen -

Pacman on the Atari 2600, I guess -
I agree ... the wall of text initially kept me from reading it ... but when I started, it was so interesting that I kept reading, despite the scarcity of line breaks

Rocketbuilding as a hobby... What is allowed in you country?
Godot replied to Elthy's topic in Science & Spaceflight
In my country we would have to obtain a permit by the Federal aviation office, if our rockets go higher than a certain altitude (altitude limit depending on the location ... AFAIK usually around 300m) If the rocket stays lower (and doesn´t carry an explosive warhead), we are allowed to launch the rockets on private properties without any permission needed -
Yep, Mutons and their Plasma grenades are a good incentive to spread wide

The (worldwide unique) german laws with regards to cease and desist orders, which enable german attorneys to charge the recipients of their cease and desist orders, to get their attorney fees not from their clients, but rather from the recipients of their cease and desist orders. Since the beginning of the 2ks this has led to some robber baron like behavior of certain attorneys specialized with cease and desist orders with regards to the internet (a phenomenon called "Abmahnwellen" (waves of cease and desist orders) where they would, for example, use google to search for certain brand protected words, and then use mass mails to send cease and desist orders to the owners of ther websites where this word was found [each one either having to pay them several hundred €, or be prepared to fight in court against the cease and desist order]) (another more recent example is Jack Wolfskin ... only a few years ago, the attorneys of Jack Wolfskin searched massively for everything that half-way resembled a wolfs paw [which is the Logo of Jack Wolfskin] and sent cease and desist orders even to housewives, who presented home made T-Shirts (and the like) with paws of dogs and cats in handcraft forums). I don´t what makes me more angry ... the attorneys ... or the german politics, who sits in the lap of these attorneys and of the german media industry (who wants to keep these laws, as they allow them to massively send cease and desist orders to users of file sharing networks without any costs on their side)

It depends on how sane the opponent is. I guess, if Hitler would have had access to nuclear weapons, he would have used them when the soviets invaded Berlin, as he thought his fate to be connected to the one of the german people (with other words, he would have seen it as just and well deserved if he had taken the whole of rest germany with him in his suicide). I also think that North Koreas divine leader would have no problems with using nuclear weapons (if present), if there ever comes a time of UN / US troops invading NK without China doing anything against it. IMHO the only real question in those 2 cases is, if there are people down in the chain of command who refuse to carry out their orders. While in the hypothetical case of WW2 I suspect that there would have been generals who had been sane enough to not carry out the orders for the nuclear strike, I have severe doubts if the same can be said for Kim Jong Uns regime ... the deification of the leader and brainwashing of ordinary people in NK seems to be on a level, that even Maoist China and Stalinist Russia never attained ... if Kim Jong Un gives the order of a nuclear strike, there may be enough people who just carry out the orders, without thinking of the consequences for their country and/or their loved ones
-
Actually biological weapons are even more unpredictable than any nuclear weapon can be. You cannot realistically design them so they only strike at a limited region (after all you don´t know where the vectors (the humans which are infected and are able to spread the infection) will move before they die (maybe a few of them will move where you didn´t expect them to go and spread it into friendly countries) and even if you genetically engineer some safety measures into them (like them affecting only humans with a certain genetic makeup ... or them not being able to spread to other humans after their first infection) there is no guarantee, that a certain percentage of them doesn´t mutate in a way that your safety measures are overridden (just look at the "arms race" between the designers of modern antibiotics and bacteria strains acquiring multiple resistencies against antibiotics .. or at cases where GM crop had been designed to only survive with a certain artificial nutritional additive [that was only present on the GM test fields] but nevertheless spread outside of these fields and was able to survive there). Using biological weapons IMHO would really have the potential to "accidentally" kill off all (or at least most) of mankind
-
Well, I for my part don´t feel this anxiety. While the conscious part of my brain knows about the dangers resulting from the actual use of these weapons (and the suffering of the people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki), the subconscious parts of my brain think "Oh, beautiful", when they see video footages of a nuclear test

Oh I see, it definitely can be confusing for people ... at the beginning (after selecting the game) you only see the menu bar. I recommend you use the system map view (F3) as this is the view that you will (want to) be on most of the time (there you also have buttons to switch to most of the other screeens, so I guess it may be called the main game window) Another thing that could be important for you may be the Spacemaster-Mode (Spacemaster-Menu-> Spacemaster On). It is partially Cheatmode, but partially also serves to do some "allowed" things. For example preselecting Techs (when you define/create an Empire, you also have a certain number of Tech points available which you can put into techs (without having to research them ) ... Spacemaster Mode allows you to assign them

One would guess that the running costs for a space shuttle mission would be lower than that for the Soyuz, considering the fact that (aside from the external tank) all parts have a chance to be reused in further missions (after checkup and potentially necessary repairs). In contrast to the Soyuz, where no part of the spaceship can be reused And I agree ... an astronomy cicle where noone knows anything about Soyuz is rather strange. I hope the knowledge of your fellow members with regards to stars and constellations is greater than their knowledge about spacecraft

Yes, of course it is hacking your computer ... so the aliens can control it. Well, dunno what you mean ... the base of the game is Access and VB, so it might need the Access and VB Runtime-Environments ... so, if you don´t have Access or Visual Studio on your computer, you might be prompted to install them

Well, the movie was entertaining ... although, as was mentioned, it was extremly ahistorical (no surprise there, considering the fact that it wasn´t made after the historical event, but rather after a comic). I´d definitely like to see more movies where they really try to portray greek battles in a historical acurate manner ... where a phalanx really fights as phalanx ... I think the last movie that did so was Alexander And jep, Spartans were badass ... there is a reason why shields with a Lambda painted on them were feared throughout greece ... no surprise there, considering the fact that the other city states of greese had citizen armies, whereas the spartans were drilled from their youngest years in combat ... only tactical superiority could overcome them (as for paederasty ... IIRC paederasty was commonly practiced all over greece ... and was also not uncommon in the roman empire ... so, rather shortsighted to single out the spartans for practicing this )

Spoire surely is an interesting game. The only gripe I had about it was, that most options you could change about your species were purely cosmetic. For example ... it doesn´t matter how many legs you put on your creature, or how long you make them ... it doesn´t affect the speed, as the only thing that affects the speed is the foot you use for the legs ... so, a tiny 6 legged lizard with thin legs has the same speed as a 2 legges giant with muscular legs, as long as they use the same foot type ... same about arms ... no matter how many arms you give your creature, as long as they have the same hands, they are exactly equal ... not even the multiplicity of eyes makes a diference ... a cyclops can see as well as a creature which has eyes all around his body ... as long as both creature use the same type of eyes

Would it be a bad idea to travel the speed of light?
Godot replied to willwolvescry's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Yes, if you want to keep your weight, it may be a bad idea -
And actually we had this clamp ... until it turned out that the clamp looked nice, but caused much of problems with wide rockets. I guess you can still find the versions soemwhere, where the launchclamp was part of the launchpad (around V. 0.13 - 0.15)

If the Apollo computers were less powerful than my phone...
Godot replied to Tex's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Nope you couldn´t I think ... the Apollo computers my have been primitive by todays standard, but this also made them rather invulnerable to the radiation in space. I´d guess that todays smartphones would burn-out within short time (or give faulty readouts), if they would have to perform in the same environment as the Apollo computers -
Who uses Liquid Boosters, or Solid Boosters?
Godot replied to KittyProgram's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Since 0.22 the Nosecone (even in Vanilla) IIRC is actually useful -
Who uses Liquid Boosters, or Solid Boosters?
Godot replied to KittyProgram's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Same as others ... I use liquid Boosters for Asparagus/Onion-Staging, but often also add a few SRBs as first stage, in order to increase the TWR in the beginning -
0 I always install Kerbal Engineer Redux for any new update ... only thing that may keep me from using it from the start on may be compatibility problems with the most actual version of KER and the new version of KSP
