Docking Help / DOCKING ? HELP !!!
Geonovast replied to bubba's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If you could post some screenshots, that would help. But it sounds like you're doing mostly ok. Once you get close ( < 200m away with zero relative velocity), switch focus to your Target vehicle, make sure its "control from here" point is the docking port. Target your other vehicle, then set SAS to "Target". Once it's pointed at your target, switch you SAS back to stability. (Leaving it on target has caused weird behavior for me. Switch back to your Trainer, and again confirm that your "control from here" point is your docking port, and set your SAS to "Target". Since you have RCS, don't touch your main engine for this. Puff forward a bit with the RCS, using "H". Don't get going too fast, as you'll need the RCS to slow you back down. ("N") You want to use your translate keys, (IJKL), to keep you aligned. Don't worry about what is up and down with the camera, keep focused on the navball. You want your target and prograde markers to stay lined up. Use short puffs of RCS with IJKL to keep those aligned. When your docking ports are close enough for the magnets to kick in, hold F to temporarily disable SAS. This will keep your SAS from fighting the magnets. -
It's probably because it's almost impossible to make a usable rover that will fit inside of it that can also 1) get out, and 2) get back in using stock parts. (and without ridiculous clipping) @Angel-125 took care of that, though.

Oh, it's on, @Dman979 -
Planning on putting boots down on Duna pretty soon in my science save, but I'd like to have the equipment there beforehand. First step will be delivery of the rover, as well as establishing a 4 point comm network around the planet. The ship will establish itself into a resonant orbit around Duna, and drop the relays into position. It'll then manuever itself into low orbit while an ideal landing spot is found out. (Normally I just wing it because it doesn't matter, but this time I have science to do!) Next phase will be delivery of a DAV and additional LS supplies. Now I have to build a launcher to get this 140 ton beast into LKO...

I don't think flipping the heatsink 180 would do much, and IIRC, it's in literally the only way it would go in. Thermal paste is basically brand new, I installed the processor and this cooler only 4 months ago. I can flip the fans around, though. The only other thing I can think of is that because this thing's so heavy, it's actually rotating down a bit from its own weight, and it's not pressing flush against the processor. But we're getting a bit off topic here. If you'd like to get into this further, shoot me a PM.

I call this artpiece a rocket and it's booster.

I think we need some context. -

totm aug 2023 What funny/interesting thing happened in your life today?

Missouri did something very similar to one of my co-workers. -
Those fans are actually blowing up. Unfortunately I can't turn the heatsink 90 degrees. The top of the case is vented, so the air has somewhere to go. And that's the only slot the GPU will fit in. From what I've read of the 7700K and its cousins... that's just what they do, but I still don't like it. And KSP seems to jump from core to core. I'll see all 4 cores spike, but not at the same time.

I love each and every one of you, most of all. Except one. You know who you are. -
Well, I didn't mean you had to get an early XP machine. But CL can be good for getting cheap older computers that might be exactly what you want. It's probably the easiest solution. I stopped suggesting Norton once it hijacked my mom's computer because she didn't want to pay to renew her subscription.
-
Have you considered scouring Craigslist (or equivalent for your area) for an old XP machine? Could probably pick up something from the Pentium 4 era for next to nothing.

Virtualbox and run them in a virtual OS. You could also run a persistent live Linux environment on a bootable USB drive and run the things in WINE.

Actually craving this week's lunches. Chicken Cordon Bleu, Cheesy mashed potatos, and corn. Likely run and get some of the above as well.

Also, if you're brute forcing your way out of the atmosphere, you don't want to touch the controls, at all, untill you're basically out of the atmosphere. My only SSTO is built similar to yours, to get as much speed as quickly as possible. I take off, set the pitch at 10 degrees, and don't touch any controls until I'm 30 km up, when I switch to prograde. The curvature of the planet will effectively cause you to pitch up as you fly.

Firespitter has a foldable electric one.
-
Since the mod that it requires was made by a Squad staff member, you could consider it stock... in a way...
-
And the rear landing gear.
-
So what you're saying.... is it may not have been KSP's fault....? You just make that? I'm so stealing it.

Might help if you could provide a picture of the real-life version of what you're looking for. Welcome to the forums
