  1. I've got another one - I made a plane with a cockpit that can eject and glide to its own runway and not just parachute down like most other ejectors. So, I eject the cockpit at the right time and turn the plane body into a missile that hits the VAB and kills whatever Kerbals were inside.
  2. Which one? Most of his new videos are old footage from earlier KSP versions, before they got sick. Already done, max speed is 50km/s. The burns are pushing my patience and I want to use something other than rockets fro once. Warnings schmwarnings, we need 'dangerous' Kerbal advice here, not safe human advice! Are you sure this will work? Edit: Did not work
  3. You're going against the air either way, and air doesn't like breaking conservation of energy.
  4. How does that launch something quickly? Do I need lots of reaction wheels? Do you have a video of a klaw launching something close to or over the speed of light?
  5. Not only do they make your rocket look nicer, but since 1.0 the aerodynamics have made fairings necessary to take wider and drag-heavier payloadsto orbit without your rocket tumbling.
  6. Unity is just as good of an engine as others out there. It's isn't automatically bad because more beginner developers use it than other engines. I'll be completely honest, you sound like you want to be a grown up playing grown up games on grown up engines, even though that makes no sense. If you're not going to give constructive criticism for the engine, then trying to stop money from going into KSP2 is futile as the rather good performance pre-alpha has already shown lots of potential.
  7. I think the Kardashev civilization scale is better as it isn't so specific as: And when you're talking about species who are completely unpredictable due to having no data, measuring theoretical species based on ability to harness energy and not specific milestones is much better. A species could a good portion of their light cone but not know what atoms are and never go past tech level 2 on the Tsiolkovsky Civilization Scale. The Kardashev civilization scale wasn't about sci-fi and what little humans can make up for their stories. You don't specifically need a dyson sphere to harness a star's energy. If your home star is actually a quickly spinning black hole, you could harness photons that have been blueshifted by the ergosphere.
  8. Well, I once made a torture machine that pointed 2 "Vector" engines at a Kerbonaut in a seat, and I'd keep them at max temp. I also made a klaw that thrashed Kerbals around.
  9. I posted this question on Reddit a few minutes ago, but to expand the exposure of this question, I'll take it here: I've achieved 50km/s with an ion probe that uses the Oberth effect very close to Kerbol, and now I want to try using glitches to get to extreme velocities, and I want a reliable method to achieve this. Got advice?
  10. Not sure if this goes into modded or unmodded, but anyways, here's my problem: Before getting KSP on Steam, if I needed a new instance of KSP to test mods, I'd go to the KSP website > account > download, then I'd get what I need. In this case, I wanted to install a new instance so I could have KSP with the DMP mod only. So, after getting KSP (no mods) on Steam to make updates and DLC a bit easier, the website thinks I only bought the steam version. But I bought KSP alone in 2013. I can't update any existing non-Steam instance without having to buy the game again, and that's my last resort. What do I do?
  11. But slapping 2 letters onto a name is about as Kerbal as things get with naming things.
  12. I like how everyone is trying to choose the name of this tall mountain despite already having the name K2.
  13. Like the VAB, the name of the dock shouldn't depend on where it is, or its altitude. Players can name their Vehicle Assembly Bases all they want, but they should be able to all be called one thing, like all cities are cities regardless of location. The ability to dock a ship (or land one back at the KSC) and stick it back on another ship or upgrade it sounds fitting for a game where reusability is a popular challenge.
  14. Why would a construction facility need to be located around Kerbin? The trailer shows a Daedalus being built around Jool, so the name Kerbin [anything] isn't really suitable.
  15. They should do a 3D skybox like Valve does with Portal 2 so that going long distances causes a visible parallax in distant but unreachable stars in the skybox, so that there isn't a disconnect between the interstellar bubble of kerbal expedition and the galaxy.
  16. So, you want to keep KSP 1 and sweep all of its problems under the rug? KSP 1 does have flaws and I think everyone should admit that. Performance isn't great, the planets are stuck in alpha (with the exception of some added science scatter and new textures), rockets are like spaghetti, etc. Many problems can't be fixed since the game is so old and its origins involved inexperienced developers. Since KSP 2 is being developed from the ground up with a team of experienced developers, KSP 2 can be made to be better at handling problems and many bugs should be caught while the base is still being constructed, hopefully leading to a game more solid than the original could hope to be. Even if interstellar travel gets cut, KSP 2 should be a much more enjoyable experience as it embraces new technology and is developed more robustly. What's the car meant to represent and what does hiding the upper headlights represent for KSP 2?
  17. So, voxels aren't as important as when you started the thread? Well said! Anyways, I am looking forward to launching massive interstellar motherships from massive space stations under mostly the same physics from KSP 1, and not a tiny planet from NMS.
  18. N-body physics should be implemented, because having multiple SOIs in a binary pair would feel too unrealistic and jarring, and every time a modder wanted to make a binary pair, they'd have to make all those SOIs work properly.
  19. What do you mean Sci-Fi? Most of the technology in the trailer is plausible.
