  1. Make sure you switch the SM to the orbital configuration which reduces the fuel load for low kerbin orbit operations. The Saturn IB is a difficult rocket to get into orbit but its doable even on a 2.7x scale system. Have read through here; There is a guide to using MechJeb Primer Vector Guidance as well as specific settings for MJ PVG for the Saturn IB as well as how to fly it manually https://github.com/friznit/Unofficial-BDB-Wiki/wiki/Launching-and-Trajectories I suppose so? Leaving it up to the user to decide how to go about it. The bay is quite configurable and custom probe landers could be quite fun to do as well. I've seen some interesting designs for the Venus Mars dual flyby mission with kitbashing potential. https://commons.erau.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=2704&context=space-congress-proceedings Anyway some updates:
  2. Please make sure you dont have saturn rescale from extras installed. Does this happen regularly? What if you land on the Mun with a non BDB craft? Unfortunately I cant make sense of the log, perhaps someone else can. The BDB errors in there are related to some colliders, but Im not sure if thats even relevant here sorry.
  3. Not really, Im not questioning the possibility, I was just surprised reading through it though given the shape I thought it would be purely atmospheric. it was supposed to have Balsa wood up front to cushion the impact although the feasibility depended on final probe density. The plans on this report were very preliminary and high level, the probe designs were quite notional.
  4. Unfortunately KSP tracking solar panels have not limit, they rotate freely about the tracking pivot axis. The paper I have isnt super clear, but I think they would track across a certain arc yes IRL.
  5. Whats coming next? VFB of course to catch up with the functionality of the old skylab. Keep in mind all the VFB parts here are not textured, they're using temporary materials to help visualise. The SM for the Apollo is meant to have dual LMDEs for redundancy and for increased space for the mission module. For now you can get by with one but Cobalt will make a dual mount at some point. You dont have room for a full SPS. Worth noting that the real design calls for only the top of the SLA panels covering the gap to be jettisoned and the rest to be retained as MM shielding but we're not going to do that in order to have a more interesting model and textures for the mission module. Multi experiment boom in an aerodynamic housing. 12x solar panels serve double duty as micrometeorite shielding (yes really!) Some aspects of how the solars will be functional and protected during ascent in game are still being discussed but this is the basic idea. We also have this unpressurized section below the mission module containing some life support greebles, a large telescope and a quad entry probe dispenser. The probe container and telescope are separate parts so you have options to configure as desired. Entry probes have a solid rocket motor with sufficient Dv to change trajectory to enter the atmosphere roughly an hour before closest approach. They are launched sequentially for wider coverage. They dont have drag devices but were expected to survive impact (!)
  6. Very impressive! I somehow get the impression you may have put more thought into this than the show runners
  7. The node on the SLA needs to attach to a hidden node within the descent module rather than the bottom of the engine. Thanks I can reliably reproduce the issue. So it only happens if you switch the sim bay config with the door turned off. If you switch with the door turned on it doesnt seem to happen. Anyway we will investigate.
  8. It was empty onn the other Apollo missions. On skylab I know there was an extra propellant pack but not sure if it was in the SIM bay or elsewhere. Not sure about ASTP.
  9. Anyone getting the pink door could you check and see what the f12 console log says when it happens and let me know please.
  10. Alright this was caused by broken stock materials. I've pushed a fix. It should look like this instead of white now However if you want the good stuff that uses the dedicated PBR textures in the subfolder you need to install Textures Unlimited (but please dont install mods like magpie which will probably try to overwrite this with its own configs). I guess most people have been using TU hence why no one has seen this issue so far.
  11. is this a screenshot of the issue? The file is not public and so cannot be viewed. The metallic skylab requires Textures Unlimited to work, and if you dont have it it will fall back to a regular stockalike texture. Also make sure you dont have anything like Magpie installed which might be applying TU configs to where its undesirable. Also make sure your reflections are enabled in KSP settings.
  12. SIM bay in early alpha state is uploaded. Testing for basic functionality only, no balancing has been attempted yet. Also the underside of the CM decoupler is messed up (my bad lol) and needs to be re UV'd so its a known issue.
  13. I've successfully flown the Saturn IB in JNSQ into orbit using the baseline H1 configs (without the 1973 era upgrades) using PVG. The settings I've used are in the BDB wiki, essentially: - 120-130km periapsis (we're lofting bit higher than the lowest orbital altitude), - booster pitch start at 100m/s, - booster pitch rate at 0.3 (which is lower than default) to ensure the first stage focuses on gaining altitude. This might be the most important setting here. The pitch rate determines the inital "dumb" trajectory of the rocket until closed loop guidance is initiated. Most rockets are fine with the default settings, Saturn IB is not. - I even set Apoapsis to 300 so we can get into a nice 130x300km orbit comfortably. Revamped Saturn IB is not in game yet but I believe JSO has been testing the planned balance and the end result is much the same.
  14. er try this: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/690553577524953158/882741962321571850/Zorg_flight_profiles.cfg even has a bonus new profile I've kinda been messing with.
  15. Complete apollo 17 (left) and Apollo 15/16 (right) configurations. Still need to do foil toggles for a couple of experiments and some tweaks to the bay itself. Particles and fields sub satellite and dispenser. Mass spectrometer Gamma ray spectrometer (partially deployed) Alpha and x-ray spectrometer Panoramic camera
  16. I dont know of any solution. If you are rescaling for Realism Overhaul purposes I have been in touch with some contributors there and they ran into the same problem, I was thinking of providing a native real size truss for RO later by scaling in unity but I will do that a bit later.
