KSP2 Release Notes

The sad and stark reality is that there are going to be people mad no matter what answer they get. Delayed? Mad because they want the game. Early Access? Mad because they want the full game. Doesn't matter; they will find any excuse to sour themselves and try to sour the community on it.

I didn't think I could get any more freaked out and jacked up over KSP2...and then I watched this. Lot of good information in a clear, easy-to-understand presentation. Shadowzone here has a lot of the same questions we do, but he's able to provide some clarity - at least from his point of view - around what the feature video gave us. Yes, he has an inside track with the company and the developers, so it's entirely possible, however unlikely, that he has inside information. Regardless of that, how he presents what we were told in the feature video is really good stuff, and should put some fears over the early access release to rest. Some people are still gonna complain about their favorite features not being included, or that we were promised a full game and we aren't getting that. I still say that we are getting KSP2, and there is nothing about that which makes me upset. I am looking forward to learning all about the new game, and then playing it endlessly when it comes out! There is one thing in this and the feature video that got mentioned that I am really looking for more information on: modding. I am a software developer by trade, and I came into the KSP world a little too late to really build anything of my own. Part of that is because I was unable to find a whole lot of detailed information about how to mod the game other than "Open one of the files and copy most of it and see what happens". What I am hoping for with KSP2 is that someone crafts a detailed tutorial on how to mod the game so those of us with our own ideas can try our hand at doing this instead of sitting on the sidelines waiting for someone else to maybe come up with part of the same idea.

Just a small update to let y'all know I'm still working through this!
-
Well, there's certainly no need to be condescending about it. Nor passive-aggressive. If it's so obvious to you, and if it's obvious I don't know what you are talking about, why not share your thoughts?
-
And your response didn't address the first part of what you decided to quote. Which was that people were upset over not having early access in 2020 but are now upset over having early access in 2023.
-
Ah, I missed that. Thank you for pointing that out! Step 1: Early Access Step 2: ??? Step 3: Profit! ... ... On another note, I'm not sure I understand why people are all freaking out about the exclusion of features in the Early Access release. Everyone was excited when the game was announced, and people got angry over the multiple and seemingly endless delays, with a few wondering why there wouldn't be an early access phase. Now Intercept and T2 have announced an Early Access version of the game, specifically to get community input on bugs and issues and what works and what doesn't...and people are mad that they aren't geting the full game and they think that Early Access is a joke? I get the sentiment about not having the features in the game you want to play through, such as multi-player or (even in my case) science and unlocking the tech tree. Or maybe it's specific parts, or planets. Or perhaps interstellar travel or colonization of the Kerbolian system. Yes, we want all of these features. But at what cost? All of this stuff will eventually come in time, and while you are waiting you get your hands on KSP2 at a reduced cost (I believe the original ask was going to be $60, and EA is now $50; correct me if I'm wrong) AND you will end up getting all of those features at no additional cost to you. Well, no cost other than you get to play the game without those features and learn how the game is going to function so when those features come out you are ready for them. But no additional out-of-pocket cash for these features. I'm not talking about DLC like with Breaking Ground/Making History, but core/stock features that will be included in updates. Which, really, isn't anything different than what they did with KSP, right? Science wasn't part of the original game. Neither was repairing stuff in space. Or inventory. Me, for one, I am excited as all get-up about Early Access. Day one, February 24th, I'm going to purchase this and play the bejeezus out of it. I won't care about the stuff that isn't there because I'll be too darned focused on the stuff that is.

Ok, read the roadmap. I see nothing in there saying no science in early release. What did I miss?
-
Ok, guess my question wasn't blunt enough. People keep mentioning the road map, and that science won't be available until phase 2, and all that. How do you know this? Is there some document I missed that details this? A video somewhere? Anything?
-
Did I miss something? No science in the early release? Is the whole thing just sandbox?
-
Let's hope that the light is the end of the tunnel and not an oncoming freight train!

Just watched the trailer. My mind is now fully blown, I'm spent, I can't focus on anything else right now. That made me want to not only play KSP2, but to fire up KSP and keep working on my unmanned Jool-5. With that said, does anyone know if Early Access will be Steam only? Or will we still have the option to purchase and download from the KSP store? And who do I give all of my money to for this?

And a mission to Dres. This is getting grindy. Like, more grindy than farming the KSC at the beginning of the game.

Las Kerbas Safety First Challenge
Scarecrow71 replied to Scarecrow71's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
With having to scrap my current unmanned Jool-5 thanks to the Kraken, I need to build up some more science and funds. So I picked up contracts to rescue Clauwin from orbit of Kerbin and then plant a flag on Minmus. I’m about out of places on Minmus to actually get science from, but I may as well do it! I can reuse the Linbal Rescue Machine to do this, and then land on the poles on Minmus to get the needed science here. And I was able to get enough science to unlock Advanced Science Tech. Yay, more gadgets! I’m getting close to finishing this challenge. I only have 6 nodes on Tier VIII and all 4 nodes on Tier IX to go. And I’m pretty sure I can button this up without having to do the unmanned Jool-5 (although I reserve the right to still do that at some point, but with better components). So what I’m going to do now is head to Dres and prove that it exists. First, I build a lander that looks like so: It’s not the prettiest, but it will certainly do. All this thing has to do is get to the surface, collect science, and then get back up to the return module. I’ll be moving all remaining fuel back to the return module, then moving all collected science to a science collection container, and then jettisoning this thing into the depths of outer space. So with that in mind, we build the following rocket to get us to Dres and back: So, I can get a transfer window immediately for 1900 dV…or I can wait 27 days and get one for 6000 dV. Guess which one I’m taking here? Got a nice stable orbit around Dres. And now it’s time to land and collect that sweet, sweet science! And forgot a shot of the ship docked, but here we are back in a higher orbit waiting to transfer back to Kerbin. And a transfer back to Kerbin for 1327.6 m/s dV. Awesome. And back home now. That run to Dres generated enough science to unlock the following: High-Performance Fuel Systems Hypersonic Flight Specialized Electrics That still leaves me with 3 nodes on Tier VIII, and I haven’t even touched Tier IX. Damn. -
The Ultimate Jool 5 Challenge Continued
Scarecrow71 replied to JacobJHC's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
As I mentioned previously, I was going to attempt this because of the challenge I'm currently trying to complete. And I even stated it probably wouldn't count. -
2nd attempt this morning to attach the third fuel module to the mothership failed. I got it docked, but as soon as I tried to go back to the KSC to get the next module ready for launch, the kraken showed up. Again. This time it just split the ship into a whole bunch of pieces without any major explosions, but it did it in such a way so that I couldn't even re-dock anything. So while I can revert to an earlier save (which I did), the ship is completely unusable. I have to scrap the current iteration of the unmanned Jool-5 and start over from scratch. My guess is that I have too many parts on the ship, what with the ring section for the communications and power module, plus multiple landers (one for each moon). I am going to try recrafting this thing with fewer pieces...and with newer tech considering what I've unlocked since I started. It's a bummer that I have to start over, but I've got the cash to do so (currently sitting at 3620411).

Still working on my unmanned Jool-5. I've got 2 fuel modules on the ship, but when I went to put a third one up this morning the kraken pushed the whole thing into Kerbin's upper atmosphere and then ate it. Luckily I have a backup from right before the third fuel module launch so I can try again...but I'll fear the kraken until I get it all together. Im hoping to get the remaining fuel modules and engines attached this weekend!

Make a wish... and have it horribly corrupted!

Granted. Starship announces their retirement, making them finished. I wish I was fluent in every known language in the Universe.
