  1. Can you give a screenshot of both the vessel and the contract in question? I'm wondering if there is some condition in the contract that you have to satisfy that is missing?
  2. You know, this got me wondering. Is there a way to create SSTV signals and insert them into the game via a mod? Like, could I create an SSTV signal of some kind and then, using a mod, import it into the game for people to find?
  3. Well, I can only use what I have. And what I have is 1.8.3.
  4. I just tested this in 1.8.3. Simple drone, used HE to get an orbit of 10kPm around the Sun. Nothing. Tried to set that same orbit over Kerbin, and got an error message indicating that the orbit was out of the reference body's SOI. So, failure for me!
  5. I have 1.8.3. Do you know if it is supposed to exist in that version? Do I simply need to HE a craft to 10,000Pm to see if it exists? Is it 10kPm above Kerbin, or above the sun?
  6. If it wasn't for docking, I don't think I'd even be playing any longer. So much has opened up in this game from this one simple tactic, and it would have killed the game for me if I couldn't do it. With that said, I always let the computer do it for me. I use MechJeb for a lot because I'm simply not steady enough to do it myself. Heck, I even wrote a tutorial on how to use MJ to dock. I'm not sure if the images in there are valid or not. But the description should be.
  7. The problem is that I wanted to test landing the Tylo lander, but MJ doesn't like the cheat menu.
  8. Sounds like a drone with no antenna, and thus no connection to KerbNet. I'm assuming your tourist there isn't a pilot, right?
  9. Nothing to fear if you are sleeping when stuff happens. Val told Jeb she loves him. And feelings are scary.
  10. I hate EVA flying, so I wait to do rescue contracts until I have the Advanced Grabbing Unit. That way I can "dock" with the target piece of floating space junk and transfer crew.
  11. While I voted for @Rutabaga22's answer, one other thing to check is the controls you are using for flight. Sometimes, for an unknown reason, mapping can get messed up. I know that I have altered my own keyboard mapping so that rover controls are far different from the actual flight controls because I found that sometimes things just didn't work. However, Rutabaga there is probably 150% on the money with antenna and commnet connections. If you don't have a pilot onboard, you'll need antenna with LOS to Kerbin.
  12. Jool-5, Part I And it’s time to get started on the unmanned Jool-5. The biggest challenge here will be to collect all the science, which includes high in space, near, and on the surface of every moon. I could very well attempt to send up all the gadgets, but the number of Science Junior’s and Mystery Goo cannisters alone (34 in total) make doing so restrictive, even with an LKO assembly. And it’s not necessary to actually get all of the science in one run; people generally do it simply so they don’t have to go back for stuff they missed. I'm going to use spoilers here because this post is going to be long. Landers Interlude Return Module Science Module Power & Communications Progress So Far I am, at this point, about 80% complete with assembly. I have to get a bunch of fuel and some engines up there to propel this thing to the Jool system, which is going to take some serious planning just in and of itself. And I have no way of knowing, yet, if this will even succeed. Thankfully I have 3020286, which means I can scrap and start over if this mission goes completely sideways. I'll have more updates on this mission next week!
  13. Just checking in to let y'all know I'm still working on this. I'm in the middle of assembling a ship in LKO to do an unmanned Jool-5. So far I have the following components assembled in LKO: Lander Module (all landers are attached to a central module to hold them for flight to Jool) 5 landers (one for each body - Pol, Bop, Vall, Laythe, and Tylo) Return Module (to bring all that sweet science home) Science module (it's easier to have a separate module to get high/low materials and goo than to try putting these all on the individual landers) That's 8 total launches so far, and I still have the following components to get into LKO and assembled: Communications and power hub (all the individual pieces so far have batteries and antenna and such, but a ship this big is going to need more power and communications for the journey there and back) Fuel and engines (cuz, you know, need propulsion) I'm not sure if I'll split communications and power or not. And I'm pretty sure I'll need a couple separate launches to get all the fuel I'll need for this trip. I'll need enough fuel not just for the transfer, but to get encounters with and to orbit all 6 bodies (all 5 moons and, of course, Jool). Because I have multiple landers, I'll be pulling leftover fuel from them back into the mothership, so I shouldn't run out. But I'm afraid I will, which means I'll over-engineer the heck out of this thing. Anyhow, as mentioned, I'm still working on this. It will be next week at least before I launch to Jool. I'll give more updates as I try to pull this off, with a full album of images when I'm done!
  14. Rings of power is just one long pause waiting for Gallerie to say "I told you so".
  15. @Superfluous J Returning is considered to be part of a contraccobevause very few contracts, if any, actually specify you have to come.home to satisfy them. The only ones that require you to come home are rescue contracts, and even tourist contracts don't state you have to. So let's go option 3 here and state that you are allowed to return home. Unless you want to leave stuff stranded. Or you want the challenge of not returning.
  16. Small post as I get started working towards something big!
  17. I started this weekend with a pair of Minmus contracts in Mission Control: Rescue Roing from orbit of Minmus Plant a Flag on Minmus If I’m going to be rescuing someone from orbit of Minmus, I may as well drop down to the surface and pick up some science, right? So I’ll run up there with a modified version of my original Linbal rescuer, but I’ll add some parachutes to it so I can return in that ship. After that run, I was able to unlock Automation, which gives me a drone core and a couple new antenna to play with! And now that I have these new toys to play with, I’m going to start replacing some satellites I’ve got in orbit. You know, upgrade to the latest tech and all. I’ll start by placing a new one in a tundra orbit around Kerbin (contract!) and removing the oldest satellite I’ve got in Kerbin’s orbit. I’m putting this puppy up there: It wasn't a very productive weekend all told, but I did get a bit of science AND I started to update the out-dated satellites I've got up in orbit. The real work starts this week as I look to do an unmanned Jool-5. I've only ever attempted to go to Jool once before, and that was during the Kerpollo challenge that I am still trying to figure out (Eve is a pain in the behind, and Jool just takes too much to do it one launch). I figure I can do multiple launches here to get the requisite parts into LKO, then assemble them like some big Voltron/Constuctocon mash-up and send them off. That's going to take some planning, but stay tuned as I will give updates!
  18. No, it does not. What I'm talking about are those contracts that say "Collect science on the surface of..." or "...in space around...". Survey contracts are specific in what you are to collect.
  19. Yeah, my plan is to return to Kerbin with the science. I might have to assemble a ship in orbit of Kerbin first as I'll need multiple landers and a boatload of fuel. But science!
  20. I so wish there was a category for unmanned missions. I'm playing through @18Watt's Safety First challenge, and I'm runningnoutnof science in Kerbin's SOI. I am therefore about to go off to Jool, and I will do a Jool-5...but it will be unmanned.
  21. The real bummer is that invisibility allows light to pass through you. In order to see, light needs to reflect off the back of your eyes. So,yeah, blinded every time you go invisible. The ability to eat anything and draw nourishment from it.
