  1. I'm afraid it's not close This is the latest thing I've been working on: What you're looking at (L-R) is a class-E rock in LKO, the "control tower" for a completely awesome space station I want to build onto said rock, the Kranefly asteroid hauler docked to the control tower and being used as a tugship (the tower has no means of propulsion), and the discarded boosters that got the tower to this point. Like the song says, it's a year until Hummlebee gets to Kerbin SOI and I would not want to give the impression that Kerfleet has been idle in that time--so I have to build this awesome station before I timewarp to Ch.6. However I am fighting the Kraken with both hands. Right after I took this screenshot something took the asteroid in its tentacles and flung it at 1800m/s away from the ships. So I have a persistence file to edit... anyway had to manage this before I got to work, so I missed the window this morning to do Bill's interlude. Will do my best to have something later on today, because I do want to start Ch6 on or before the weekend. - - - Updated - - - Well remember, this is a hibernation dream (as noted by the cloudy blue "thought balloon" behind the images) Lisa may or may not speak to the sensors when she's awake; but at that time they do not talk back And whattaya mean "burn on reentry"? How little faith you have in Jeb!
  2. Good start, just enough images to tell the story. Welcome to the forum!
  3. Well then I'll be sure to put it on the poll, if I do one for this thread.
  4. Thanks, really appreciate that! Expect to see more of Lisa in future stories, she's really grown on me and I'm very happy with how her character turned out.
  5. They're pretty much made of fuel; typically ~90% of the mass is convertable to ore, and that ore can be converted to LFO on a 1:1 basis. So yeah, you can mine it and throw the fuel away and drag a much smaller rock where you want it--or try to preserve as much as possible for practical use later.
  6. I did something like this over Eve in the last few panels of "Eve: Order Zero" (comic in my sig) Without spoiling the story too much here was the sequence that worked: --separate craft close to ground, in this case 8000m. --activate parachute on one of the craft. This allows it to land safely without any more action on your part. --use [ to switch to the second craft --land (or crash) second craft close to the first. In my case the separation between the two ended up being about 9200m on the surface Key is of course to keep them close. You will not be able to switch back and forth with [ ] if they are more than 2200m apart. If the non-POV craft is in the atmosphere and more than 22.5km distant it may simply disappear.
  7. Frankly, I would get a new rocket It is MUCh easier to pull than push. Here's mine: That's the Kranefly, adjusting the orbit of a Class-E for future use as an LKO station mount. Key design elements are: --nuclear motors for high dV --lots of liquid fuel storage. Over 14,000 units LF on this ship, and still the max dV towing a class E is about 300 m/s. --radiators to get rid of the heat from said motors --motors placed far, far away from the asteroid so that thrust does not impinge --sufficient RCS to maneuver around the asteroid --lots of solar for drilling and refining When I want to pull the rock somewhere, I orient the ship for the maneuver node, fly it around the asteroid until it's targeting asteroid COM and aimed at the node, back up and capture, then set the Klaw to "Free Pivot" and thrust. Doing this is NOT easy. Good luck!
  8. Well done Malcolm! Once you clean yourself up, maybe see if they'll launch you in daytime next And heh, kittehkat. I saw that.
  9. Very well said. I wonder if it might be good to add a rule to the effect that (1) moderators cannot be expected to state with legal precision exactly where "the line" is on any rules issue, and (2) that no statement of opinion by a moderator can be construed to 'shield' a user from future justifiable punishment. In that spirit, I withdraw my previous question about what exactly constitutes a 'reaction image'
  10. Excellent mission, love that picture of our four heroes home safe and sound! Have rep
  11. I always thought of him as more of a Crazy Awesome. And now, some closure for Lisa's arc: Bill is next, and then the next Duna team update will be somewhere near Kerbin! Hmm, I wonder what Bill could possibly be thinking about as he goes back into hibe...?
  12. Thanks, I have it subscribed, so already got the notification - - - Updated - - - Yeah, I think maybe he speaks to all of us technical folks who get put in that kind of situation all the time (though hopefully with less permanent consequences!)
  13. Sorry, only Command pilots and Bill (who was on that track until he was kicked out for cheating ) take it. Maybe there's another training trope I will throw at Jeb one of these days - - - Updated - - - Correct--I want a big ship to go to Jool, with a bridge.
  14. I haven't decided if ham is canon for Kerbfleetverse, but if it is, Bill orders a large one every time someone goes through that sim. - - - Updated - - - Thank you! I wonder if these interludes are why Bob suddenly pulled away from Clauselle in the E:O0 poll. He does have the unfair advantage of appearing in both comics simultaneously.
  15. I was a bit confused about 2.2j myself. So, people would be all "you torpedoed my aweseome battleship you fithy cheater to the death!" Wow, I guess I need to peek out of my Kerbfleet pacifist bubble once in a while Regarding reaction images: I posted something earlier today that a kind fellow member warned me could be considered one, so I added text to it to make sure the post was in the clear. The interesting thing is that I had make a textual response--I just embedded that text in a speech balloon and put it on an image of Captain Sulu. So--would I have been OK? I.e., is the rule meant to prevent image-only posts in general, or image-only posts where the poster has not added any original content? (And I realize that if I do my job well enough you might not be able to tell the difference--so yes I will be sure to follow the letter and the spirit of the rule in any case )
  16. Finishing up Val's interlude: Lisa is up next. - - - Updated - - - She failed her saving throw against being...anomalied. If she'd made it, she would have had to make another next round. And the next, at -5...- - - Updated - - - Ah, but if I put that bridge on a real spacecraft, the air will not be OK--and I would like to pretend it is an actual pressurized bridge for purposes of your entertainment
  17. I was out last night with some friends watching for the ISS to pass overhead and someone asked me how high its orbit was. I didn't know off the top of my head so I started guessing an answer by saying, "Well, the atmosphere ends at 70km...er, I mean a hundred." Then people started pointing at various fixed celestial objects asking if they were the station, and I mocked them.
  18. Ha! I will trope, and trope again, until my comics become so famous they're used as references! But then again...
  19. I like that plane, same basic layout as my Gliido. If you put turbos on it instead of the basic jet, it should orbit. Excellent view of those idiots at Mission Control
  20. Dunno--he's showing up in D:OB! right now in Val's Kerbahashi Maru sequence, that may have something to do with it. - - - Updated - - - It's leaning against the side of the ship. Very interesting, since I'm pretty sure it's the dorsal tailfin--so it had to have come forward in the crash, slid along the top and came to rest right there.
  21. She rolled a one, but it wouldn't have mattered, right? - - - Updated - - - Ah, there's an idea--actually I could probably even edit a helmet texture file to make it completely invisible. Will experiment when the time comes.
  22. Thanks, I did indeed--unfortunately (since it gets assigned based on name) Ackbar Kerman is actually an engineer, so my dreams of someday putting him in command of KSS Home One aren't going to work out.
  23. Careful, I think the Forum can still fire when cloaked...
  24. Hey, this thread has passed 50,000 views! Thanks everyone for reading and commenting. Here's a couple more Interlude pages: I took some shortcuts in the above assuming everyone already read about Dislby's Kerbahashi Maru test, and if not here it is.
  25. Seems strange, that--sort of the online equivalent of being able to graffiti a tattoo on someone else's body. Might be nice if we could at least hide them--the visitor messages, I mean. Your tattoos are your own problem. ETA: and somehow THIS is my 1,000th post. Darn it, I wanted it to be a comic! ETA2: Looks like you can restrict visitor messages to "friends" in Profile Preferences, so at least that's something.
