Mister Dilsby replied to Endersmens's topic in Kerbal Network
Well done and well-deserved! I still remember feeling, "ooh! it's Starwhip!" back in the day when you joined in on some of my challenge threads. You've been a positive force in the Forum throughout--wear those bars with pride! -

How do stranded kerbals get stranded?
Mister Dilsby replied to peachoftree's topic in KSP1 Discussion
In my 'verse there are other space programs besides Kerbfleet. They're just all terrible and have never accomplished anything other than flinging Kerbals into random orbits with no hope of return. All the various programs hold discussions in an online forum called Kerbfleet Social Platform. -

Nice shuttle, indeed! But you're going to have to pay Kerbfleet royalties if your crew keeps having "concerns" and engineers can see the future (kidding, it's fine ) -

Thanks! I got the platform on and added some panels to the other side. Posted in a new mission report. - - - Updated - - - And just like Scotty--who cheated in the same way--Bill ended up where he really wanted to be in the first place: engineering- 598 replies

Here's a "normal" mission report from me (though all of this takes place in the Kerbfleet save featured in the comics) detailing how I built this very nice little asteroid station in LKO: Key features include a lab, mining and refining capability, and a landing platform that can support several big ships at once. There's room to expand as well. This all started when I noticed a Class E rock already in Kerbin orbit--very eliptical and nearly polar, but at least I didn't have to go out of Kerbin SOI to get it. Here's the ship you see docked to the station's ventral port-- the Kranefly, named for its passing resemblance to a bug with big wings. Also it works a bit like a construction crane, doesn't it? That's as much as I could fit in the picture. Boosters are 4xMammoth engines, main propulsion is 6xLV-N. You can see how I arranged the boosters radially to allow the Klaw attachment to go on the tail of the Kranefly, getting around the problem of not being able to put a stack node under the klaw. First album is the Kranefly's launch and orbit sequence, ending with the asteroid rendezvous in LKO. Next, adding the control tower and landing platform. Not all this is necessary, but it's cool. Control tower holds the lab and mining equipment. The cupolas are meant to give a good view of the landing platform. Here it is transiting to the asteroid, courtesy of the trusty Kranefly: And how it got there: Next up, a second platform and some more solar panels.

It's a card game where the rules change as you're playing it. It's almost as if it isn't quite finished yet...what else would Kerbals play?- 598 replies

Those numbers are at Eve sea level. Bill is no dummy - - - Updated - - - Thanks for posting the pointer, I was just going to say "He cheated, duh." - - - Updated - - - In my Kerbalverse, Kerbals are one big happy spacefaring society with no concept of violence, so maybe their various OSs are also nice to developers? Nah, that's truly unrealistic Bill is just. that. good.- 598 replies

Arghhh nooo! I totally feel that, started building a station into an asteroid recently, and when I undocked a ship in the neighborhood that asteroid zoomed away perpendicular to its orbit at 1800m/s relative. Incredibly frustrating. I was able to rebuild the orbit from a save, very sorry yours did not go so well. FWIW, your plane and station design look fantastic. You'll rebuild

It already runs on kpad, but with some issues.

Glad to have you back! So are you in 1.0.4, or is the previous stuff still an older version?

"Duna, Ore Bust!" -- a KSP Graphic Novel (COMPLETE)
Mister Dilsby replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
And now, your moment of Bill. This concludes the present D:OB! Interlude sequence. Next time you see an update here it will be Hummlebee inbound to Kerbin SOI, possibly with a pause at KERBSTATION AWESOME! But before that there may be an Epilogue to Ch3 over on the Eve thread. - - - Updated - - - 400km And yeah, 7.6M funds. I don't mention every contract but I am doing a lot of high value ones in the background. There are stations set up on Mun and Minmus to grab "mine xxx ore" contracts, usually for six figures. When Evestation docked to the Dipperkraft that fulfilled a big "Eve Orbital Station" contract for nearly 2M. At this point in the game money is really the least of all worries.- 598 replies

"Duna, Ore Bust!" -- a KSP Graphic Novel (COMPLETE)
Mister Dilsby replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Nope, I'm just in it for the lulz and the awesome. - - - Updated - - - Progress! The control tower is attached: Platforms need a little re-think though, I started putting some together in the VAB and they would have to be huge just to fit a Gliido or Pogo. Idea is that one or two platforms would dock to the tower with the edge nearly flush against the asteroid. Each would be illuminated by the light from the tower and viewable from the cupolas. Would also have some footlights on the platforms to throw light against the rock wall. Anyway, maybe Ill just put mooring posts on the platform, that way a ship could dock with nose to the asteroid and crews would still have a platform 'walkway' to get to the tower.- 598 replies

"Duna, Ore Bust!" -- a KSP Graphic Novel (COMPLETE)
Mister Dilsby replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
No, I had detached the Kranefly and disarmed its claw. The attachment claw for the control tower was still stowed. The problem happened when I undocked the two boosters--I had docked them to the Control Tower for launch rather than use decouplers because I wanted to use the ports on the Control Tower to attach the landing platforms and other stuff later. Yes, I said landing platforms. Anyway I went in and manually edited the asteroid's orbit and got it back within 2km of the ships. All looks OK to hook up the control tower now, and then I can see about those platforms ETA: I will at some point put together a non-comix report on the station process: asteroid capture, Control Tower, etc. And yes this is the same damn asteroid you have been seeing me work with since the early pages of D:OB!- 598 replies
