  1. Flying Bigger's Canyon (my name for the gouge that goes in a reversed L from the equator to the north polar region) on Duna:
  2. Great stuff. Would have repped for the truck alone, or the launch tower, or the launch tower wrecking your flagpole...
  3. Looks like I just gave you a +r on another thread, but this design is certainly worth some. Thanks for posting, will steal
  4. ETA: I didn't notice until doing this comic that each crew member's "webcam" view includes any other crew visible behind them! You can see Bill and Lisa in the background of Val's and Jeb's shots. This is a really cool detail... and a continuity headache for me, for example if I want to use a shot where Jeb has the perfect reaction face, but we can see Lisa behind him and she's not in the cockpit for that scene. And yes, of course I pasted in the fourth portrait for this image. If I knew of a mod that let me display all the occupants of a Mk3 cockpit at once, believe me I'd use it
  5. Thanks! Sure, I could make a pdf, I'll do that once I've had a chance to revise some sections to the 'definitive' edition. Might be a good way to package the complete book.
  6. Wow. Yeah, with multiple biomes in high-value locations and the MPL, science is pretty cheap these days... though I wouldn't want to have to REALLY work to unlock all the parts. Very interesting demonstration--thanks!
  7. Glad you all liked it! One of the best things about this game is the kerbals' in-game reactions. Sometimes they're so natural you'd swear the little guys are actually thinking, and it really does make the game more immersive and fun. Here's a couple more pages--I'm sure you're as impatient as Jeb to see the Hummlebee fly again, it'll be soon I promise!
  8. It's not bad at all! Looking forward to posting the next sections with some pics. But I just realized that even if you were still running the Flying Duna challenge, the Hummlebee would likely not qualify--I do need that VTOL system to land safely, and the challenge rules clearly state that the only source of lift must be aerodynamic.
  9. Well... that was dark. Wha happened? Pretty sure solar flares and loss of life support aren't stock
  10. Omg this is a game breaking bug, moons and planets are totally OP. ----- ETA: Did not mean this post about over-poweredness to be a swipe at the original poster. Been there, done that, lost a ion powered Minmus lander in an eclipse myself. Swipe rather aimed at some others on this Forum who see every difficulty they face as a 'game breaking bug'.
  11. I think I get it now. I didn't know what an MM actually was... So if I create a file ISRU_MM.cfg, and I put the code I added to ISRU.cfg in that MM file instead, surrounded by @part(isru) { }, then it will do what I want it to do while keeping the original .cfg intact?
  12. Epic launch! I like the look of your ships: utilitarian and clean, no doubt what each one's role is. I think the JF-1 SLAC is my favorite. Will be interesting to see the rest joining up with those Sr. ports.
  13. OK, ok-- if only I knew how to do it as an MM myself that's what I would have done! Any explanation or pointer to a tutorial most welcome. Also say the word and I'll delete my amateurish .cfg hack from that post!
  14. Good points. I personally do not auto-update and I did do all this in a duplicate /ksp folder, anyone doing otherwise may need to take more care.
  15. Yup, your code is so nice and clean I think even I can copy and paste in a 'mulch' module What would you say is a fair conversion ratio for Ore --> Mulch? If 0.5 Ore can make 1.0 LF+O2 or 1.0 Mono, then I'd think 1.0 Mulch is not too OP... though one could also make an argument for it to be lossy. ETA: Ha haaaa, it works! Anyone who wants to do this, just paste the following into your ISRU.cfg file MODULE { name = ModuleResourceConverter ConverterName = Mulch StartActionName = Start Mulching [Mulch] StopActionName = Stop Mulching [Mulch] AutoShutdown = false GeneratesHeat = false UseSpecialistBonus = true SpecialistEfficiencyFactor = 0.2 SpecialistBonusBase = 0.05 Specialty = Engineer EfficiencyBonus = 1 INPUT_RESOURCE { ResourceName = Ore Ratio = 0.50 FlowMode = STAGE_PRIORITY_FLOW } INPUT_RESOURCE { ResourceName = ElectricCharge Ratio = 30 } OUTPUT_RESOURCE { ResourceName = Mulch Ratio = 1.0 DumpExcess = false FlowMode = STAGE_PRIORITY_FLOW } }
  16. I really appreciate that, thanks! Hey, if you're that moved to give me another +rep but need to "spread it around" first, I recommend heading over to the 'Gameplay Questions' section. There are a lot of experienced players there patiently helping n00bs, and in my experience only about 2% of those n00bs will ever think to click a +1. - - - Updated - - - Love that you're getting so deep into this, thanks. I love it when the readers comment, speculate and I think I can even handle some "backseat driving"--the readers' involvement in the story really keeps me going.- - - Updated - - - - - - Updated - - - Thanks guys--I do love the vernor engine! If it ever stops being massless I might be in trouble. Will probably be a bit of a delay putting pictures together for the Surface Ops section as I have a lot going on IRL this weekend. Here's a glamour shot to tide you over: L-R: LT Bill Kerman, MAJ Jebediah Kerman, LCDR Valentina Kerman, ENZ Lisa Kerman
  17. Hey, I really like this and am going to put it on my career save (will require some emergency NOMS deliveries to a few space stations and bases but oh well) Question: is there any part that makes mulch for the greenhouse other than the kerbals themselves? I am thinking i want to have some kind of in-situ closed loop solution but do not necessarily want to rise to the complexity of a full MKS setup. If not, I was thinking of trying to mod the stock ISRU converter to make ore into mulch.... thinking like Andy Wier here, just mix some local soil with the organics and start growing potatoes
  18. I had wondered how this all came to be, actually... and (1) my condolences for the 4408 and its noble crew, (2) kudos to you for playing hardcore and letting crashes be crashes!
  19. I admit, they did just a bit--but I like where they ended up, it brings an interesting possibility for the next leg of the journey This one took two of 'em! Glad you did, welcome!
  20. Backwards or not, they've gotten the Hummlebee to this point! Let's see how the chapter ends... Next up: surface ops!
  21. The odds of having 2 rescue contracts be the same gender Kerbal are 2 in 4 (four possibilities: MM, FF, MF, FM) The odds of having 3 rescue contracts all the same gender are 2 in 8... The odds of having 4 rescue contracst all the same gender are 2 in 16... Now, how many people are playing this game? Even if you go up to 15 Kerbals or more, it is VERY likely that someone, somewhere, is getting all males or all females. If the probability is .003%, then about three of every hundred thousand players should see all females and another three out of a hundred thousand will see all males. ETA: the forum censored the word 'ess ee ex" above. Have changed to say "gender" instead, even though that is not correct in this case. /pedantic
  22. Was that a reply to me? If so thanks--yes, lab science must be transmitted, my suggestion is really to allow transmission points to count since that's how the lab is meant to be used now (not landed on Kerbin, which was relatively reasonable in v90 ) In any case I am loving ISRU, so would likely do that if I were to take the challenge on, in which case no Jeb level for me anyway.
  23. What? Noooooo! Scrub the mission! Cancel the comic! Arrrgh! No not really But lolz I had no idea, ALL my designs have them on the wrong way (see the 'recruiter', Munhopper, etc, etc...). Oh well--I guess I'll mount them whichever way looks better, they seem to work backwards as well as forwards. Thanks for pointing that out--and glad you like the comic! Thanks 'Hawk! But he's not down yet... Thanks--you would not believe how many screenshots I take, just because I think I've caught a glimpse of a reaction I don't have on file yet... and how many of them end up looking exactly the same anyway.
  24. Yay! But you're right, all the belly shots tend to be backlit or at night.
