Hype Train 1.0.5: The Local Train Route
Whirligig Girl replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
According to the Grade-O-Meter, it was a hill. In fact, just because I put Percy's face in the OP, let's say it was Gordon's Hill. -

Finally building steam! -
So real gravity does exist in the Microverse. Interesting. I wonder if there's one or two real stars or planets in the Microverse? Are dark asteroids very large to account for their gravitational pull? Like mountains instead of large spherical hills?

So far I think the best option suggested is to take the turbine model and put it on the stack intakes. It's like having the choice between a hot dog and a burger and asking if you can have a hot dog bun to fill your potato chips with. I am with the "The jet engines should have sensible COM" crowd, so the jet engines will have to be reverted to not have the crazy COM. The problem is that if the intakes change their COM that would change aircraft design rather significantly. I think turbines on the engines are better than no turbines and much much much better than magic COM.

I believe this is a Galactic Neighborhood error, not something I can fix. I have not touched Remote Tech. - - - Updated - - - Technically, right now it's a green plains planet. Still no trees. When I get trees, I will make sure they are pretty close together and if possible use Kopernicus' solid colliders for them. It would add a bit of difficulty to landing in some areas but also make it unique. Not ALL biomes would have excessive trees, of course.

KSP's planet engine is already highly procedural. Procedural =/=Random. Devs have stated that they are keeping the solar systems the same so that everyone's planets are the same, even if their ships and other experiences aren't. It would actually be pretty hard to do a pseudo-random procedurally generated system that is different every time, because it would have to build every planet's PQS map and then scaledspace textures. You'd probably have to rebuild the entire planet terrain system. It would technically be possible with the current planet/terrain system, but you'd end up waiting a good 20 minutes for the system to generate and it would probably be rather boring to look at without being carefully crafted.

Use a custom-built truss segment adapter and launch the Orion into space (but not orbit) using SRBs. That way you don't worry about irradiating Kerbin. One thing you might need to worry about is that KSP has a maximum time limit (I think it's as low as 200-something years, I don't remember), after which any on-rails motion will break. Planets will not move, and neither will your ship in timewarp. I think you can get around this by using HyperEdit to start out at the negative time so that you double the time you have until time stops. The best way around this is just to not have ships going for hundreds of years, which seems to be your plan anyway.

About the resupply missions in "The Martian".
Whirligig Girl replied to Exoscientist's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Get a Progress spacecraft up on an Ariane V to the right inclined LEO. Adapting the Soyuz/Progress craft to go inside an Ariane V might be difficult. Sending a ready-to-launch Soyuz/Progress to the Korou launch site would be a great idea if the R7 could launch from their launchpad (it can't). As for docking the Progress to the shuttle, the answer is to just not do that. Have Columbia grab the Progress in the cargo bay (probably jettisoning the lab that was already in the cargo bay) and conduct an emergency EVA to retrieve the supplies from the Progress in a very manual and informal manner, just grabbing boxes and bringing them through the void of space back to the shuttle. It would take some time, but it could be done. I think the solution to the problem involves the Progress, as there is no other cargo vessel in operation. Getting the Progress up there would have been the hardest part of the operation, I think. If an emergency EVA is not possible, then I would imagine they would have to dock the Progress to the shuttle using the Apollo/Soyuz Test Project approach: A big cylinder with two docking ports on it that can be traveled through to retrieve the supplies. This would be a very difficult, if even possible mission. But I think it would have been attempted if they imaged the shuttle and found it was not fit for re-entry. -
Hype Train 1.0.5: The Local Train Route

I actually updated the OP before that response, Rthsom. -
Jebediah Kerman was now out of the hospital, and it was time for the launch. The rocket was of totally untested design, which made Jebediah happy and made Valentina skeptical. She was not scared of it by any means as Bill or Bob would have been, but instead was more concerned about whether the space program would actually have two pilots after the launch. The actual part she was concerned about was the fact that the rocket booster was manufactured in-house, instead of using the proven pressure vessel design of the (albeit used) boilers of the previous RT-5 type boosters. One of the engineers assured Valentina that the design is basically a stolen boiler blueprint, and that she really ought not repeat that fact unless she wanted the space program to get sued. In orbit, some observations were made of Kerbin. This lasted a good three hours in orbit before Jeb and Val were both ready to come home. "Alright." Said Jeb as they passed over KSC with their long range radio transmitter. "When do we get to come back down?" The mission controllers chatted among themselves about it for a moment. "For a few more days." was the response given to them just as KSC passed below the horizon. "Dammit!" Said Valentina, looking scornfully at Jebediah. The actual reasoning for this was not obvious to Valentina, nor was it to Jeb. But it was obvious to Dr. Wernher von Kerman. "If we want to start doing long voyages to the other planets" he said, "then we need to keep them up there for a while." Gene agreed, seeing no reason why not. Wernher had an ulterior motive. He didn't want to have to launch two more rockets at the same time for the upcoming experiment when he could just use the one that was already there. He equipped the Corvus with a docking port for a reason.

It's a sign: You should be playing Alternis Kerbol Rekerjiggered! Why it would pick Kibren to put it around instead of some other Kerbin analogue beats me. I too do not play with remote tech, so there exists no compatibility with AKR.

Does the Kerbal Space Program Demo allow plugins?
Whirligig Girl replied to Doctor Smith's topic in KSP1 Discussion
You can get a moddable KSP demo; get KSP 0.13.3 (which is free and legal to download if you can find it) and find mods that are compatible only with that version. However, that will only be part mods and not plugins and it will not be an accurate rendition of what KSP is like today. In my opinion it (and the 0.18.3 demo) is better than the current demo which is too short on too underpowered parts. Really the new 1.0Demo is kind of horrible. It is not a good demo. The rest of the game is great. Get the full game as soon as possible. -

[1.3.1][Kopernicus] Uncharted Lands v0.5.4 [26Dec17]
Whirligig Girl replied to KillAshley's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
The delta-V difference really isn't actually that noticeable from stock; the Kerbal X rocket can still easily accomplish it's Mun landing mission and it can still not quite return. You do have to change how you do ascents, the gravity turn will be a bit different. -
For those of you who are having trouble with science, are you by any chance using the optional overriding science definitions that came with the download? There's some small chance that's the culprit. I'll test around some things. EDIT: I have found the bug does in fact occur. No idea why or how yet. I'm going to check the science part of their configs. Did these issues occur before I added the new biomes? I will try to remove the biomes and see what that does. EDIT2: I am at a loss. Thomas doesn't know what's wring either. I'll get to the bottom of this!

Woohoo! Long live the dental drill! I think regex will be happy to see this. He was often angry at the huge size of the current drill. -

Be-De-orbit! (BD armory it with enough force for it to enter the atmosphere.) -
Make it have a big head and a smaller body, recolor him blue, and rename him Bob.

Hype Train 1.0.5: The Local Train Route
Whirligig Girl replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
That happened during the 0.25 Hype Train / Hype Plane race. The Hype Train (Which was a Stanier Black Five at the time) performed a whopping QUINTUPLE TRACK DRIFT. It was a sight to behold and a miracle to question the validity of. - - - Updated - - - That will be eight funds. - - - Updated - - - Neat! -
Hype Train 1.0.5: The Local Train Route
Whirligig Girl replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
We're doing well so far on this journey. We're going to higher speeds. Probably not going to go anywhere near as fast as the 1.0 Hype Train did, when it broke several records and the brakes in the process. -

Hype Train 1.0.5: The Local Train Route
Whirligig Girl replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Discussion
We can, however, predict releases. I'd put my money on Next Monday or the Monday after that, if not for the fact that as the driver I'm not actually allowed to bet. - - - Updated - - - We already have one. We're just getting an overhauled one. Shown on Squadcast a while ago. -

nope. Every time someone asks "when" it gets postponed three hours. The answer is always "soon."
