Should KSP have a Delta-V readout?
TMS replied to bsalis's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
But that's not nearly as much fun as moaning about things from the sidelines though. Incidentally, Padishar has asked people to submit crafts that trip KER up to the development thread. -
Should KSP have a Delta-V readout?
TMS replied to bsalis's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
The dev position on this is pretty much just one of those things that almost everyone kinda scratches their head about and wonders how the hell they came to that point of view. Clever guys, but they're quite clearly wrong about this. Having to play the game constantly in map mode because of a lack of readouts is not charming or 'magical'. It's annoying. Yes, the game needs this (and other basic readouts) as an optional stock... to go alongside the rather isolated node DV readout on the navball. -
SAS is pretty much overpowered, so RCS isn't necessary even on large crafts. It does make large crafts turn and settle on their heading a little quicker though. It's most useful (although not necessary for translation during docking, along with fine-tuning manoeuvres/intercepts (adjusting your main engine throttle limit can help replicate these functions). Worth noting that pods now carry a small supply built-in, so that may be enough for your missions, if your craft is small enough and you're efficient at docking.

Yep, the mod takes advantage of an unused (under-developed) config setting within stock KSP. That setting is called "vsnap" and basically does exactly what you've just described - it snaps placement to the mid-point of a given part. Unfortunately, KSP's stock functionality doesn't set fine-grain vertical points at which the editor can snap to.

Heheh... that's neat. Not sure what you're unsatisfied about! If I was being super critical, I'd make two points: The DPAI alignment indicator works very well in it's own DPAI environment (the pop-up), but when overlayed in world-space, looks slightly more ornate than the rest of the KSP GUI. Secondly, you could argue that it's non-intuitive to use the same image for both desired target and current alignment. In my ill-thought-out mind, I had a picture of a quite plain-looking reticule that matched some of the fonts/icons in the game, but kept the principle of the crosshairs used to indicate target within the DPAI pop-up. Something like this: I agree that pulsing would be beneficial in some circumstances where the location is visually busy - or if the target happens to sit behind an orange tank! Great stuff, man!

SPACE STATIONS! Post your pictures here

^ I was wondering the same... They kinda look like trihex, but not quite. -
Small part physics disabling
TMS replied to Nemrav's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Is part lag solely determined by physics calculation, or is it also caused by the fact that each part has to be tracked? -
Mac users only get one mouse button for their overpriced purchase. But yeah, it'd be nice.

Someone on this forum once described the grey tanks as looking like "dustbins stacked on top of each other". I agree. They look like shyte. It's a shame there isn't a mod out there that allows you to replace the textures of stock parts, in the same way Texture Replacer allows you to change the skybox, etc. Or is there...?

SPACE X new Falcon 9 has landing legs on its booster stage - WANT!

SpaceX released this on their Youtube site. Interesting timing. -

Would that be complementary to the planetary aspects of Texture Replacer or something that... umm... replaces it? -
To not partake in clipping is unamerican, non-cricket and anti-business, along with other absurd tropes.

Converting units of speed based on situation is a bad idea. End of. It's the kind of obnoxious, counter-intuitive challenge that could be introduced into the educational version. I'm still waiting for the electricity consumption tooltips to be standardised to a single denominator, never mind having completely different scales.

TweakScale is the future. Very nice mod, man.

Stand Alone Map View - Multi monitor KSP [1.4.x][Plugin]

Jesus... this is like... what I've been waiting for since day 1. Will be testing tonight. Until then, thanks for working on this. -
Launched without solar panels IMO.

Sounds good to me. I think someone else mentioned this earlier in the thread, but the reason this thread isn't more active is probably because the product just works - like, you got it right first time round. I'm struggling to think of anything where core functionality is problematic. It's be niceâ„¢ to be able to target specific parts, other than ports (useful when controlling from a claw), but the need for that is pretty marginal.
-
Yup, besides which, you want your radial decouplers to kick out with a different force to your inline decouplers.

I thought they'd tried this before (sans legs) and the engine failed to restart? They didn't release any footage of that, surprisingly. -
Yeah, it's a real shame that the game core doesn't allow you to name docking ports. One for "tweakable everything", perhaps? Other docking and targeting mods of old provided a docking port list, but it tends to get cluttered if you're approaching a large space station with numerous ports. Visual highlighting can help in those cases, but I would agree that it does look incredibly ugly. Is part highlighting the only visual distinction that can be made? Could one generate a HUD-like reticle/crosshairs over the part?

Yeah, glow doesn't work for me. Sterility and crispness works for non-atmospheric bodies. Love the Kerbin atmosphere and the choice of hue. Looks very nice. -

I like it. Looks intimidating, foreboding... the way a Venus analogue should be.
