    Can you make an officer pack based on the USN (up to fleet admiral)?

    Got this done, at home... Slightly fancier design to the others (which I think should be fine for Army/Air Force, right?). I want to have another quick look over it before I export it out and put it up.

    Did you really want/need "Fleet Admiral"? I dunno... The current Admiral of the Fleet for Australia is Duke of Ed., Prince Phillip. Not sure if it'd be a good idea to have him on a space ship, honestly.

    Hmmm.. Yeah OK.

    Bit busy this week, will get to it this weekend.

    2. What program do you use to create and edit the ribbons? I would like to try my hand at a few custom expedition ribbons for my game.

    I use Fireworks... I heard that it got discontinued, which is a damn shame, because I found it a much more userfriendly web graphic package compared to Photoshop or anything else.

  3. It's the version ported to Australia... Pretty sure its the same as everything else. I'm just used to using it (for other things). Not sure if it makes a difference in the grand scheme of things, so happy to change to the unported version if it makes things easier.

    Also, thanks. :)

  4. G'day. Was looking in the IRC channel for help, but my waking hours and the waking hours of the people on the channel can be described as a Venn diagram with two circles that are each actually on a completely separate and different diagram.

    I created a series of ribbon packs for Final Frontier, and uploaded them to Kerbalstuff. Everything seemed to go well. I received the plaudits and admiration of my peers. The sun broke through the clouds and illuminated me.

    I ticked the box saying "yeah, why not" when it asked me if I wanted to put it onto CKAN. Then waited. Patiently. Very patiently. Staring intently at the screen for days.

    Then I realised that the metafile that Kerbalstuff wants for my packs is probably wrong.

    Please see:

    https://github.com/KSP-CKAN/NetKAN/pull/2915

    ...I'm pretty sure that it needs something like this:

    Quote

            {
                "file"       : "GameData/STM/officers",
                "install_to" : "GameData"
            }

    ...and etc. right?

    Clearly I've done something wrong. I don't know how to fix this. Please feel free to subject me to the LOLZ and call me a n00b. After that, any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

  5. Yeah.I figure that Pilots, in particular, have to be given something to do if they're hanging around. Engineers and Scientists always have a bunch of stuff that they could be doing, but what about pilots? They're not particularly good at standing around looking pretty. :D

    Thinking back to Colonial times (at least for Australia), people who had particularly ship-related jobs such as ship's navigator, helmsman, and so on, they were all given jobs in the Colony that they could do while they weren't otherwise occupied. I can't remember the name at the moment, but I recall reading about the helmsman of one of the First Fleet boats being given a large plot of land to begin a small farm (and failing miserably, btw, but I digress). Another ship's officer was tasked with overseeing forestry and carpentry duties.

    Also, in the late game, Pilots are almost pointless... :)

    Thanks for the typo patrol.. Fixed now.

    If anyone can think of any other roles for Engineers, Pilots (Operations) or Scientists... I'm keen to hear

    Trajectory Optimisation

    Good one! Maybe make it Navigation and Maneuver Planning?

  6. OK, I've added Ops Roles. Had to think about (a) what happens on a bridge of a large ship; and (b) what a pilot could do (other than piloting) if s/he's hanging around on a base/station waiting for some piloting to do. If you've got any other suggestions, let me know.

    I also corrected a bug in the Engineering Roles. Not sure if it caused issues for anyone, but caught it myself when I was working on the CFG for Ops Roles. Please re-download and overwrite everything.

  7. @Errol Yeah. I'm in Australia, and it's more or less the same here. We (Commonwealth countries) have a much simpler rank system than does the US (with their 37 different ranks that all include the word "Sergeant"). That's why I've tried to go for a simplified but modular system that people can pick and choose from. Want your pilots as WO's? Fine. Want only officer-rank types involved with your space program? Cool. Want a private to sit in the back of your cockpit and pointedly not say anything in the presence of a 4-star general? A-OK. :)

    Hello SmarterThanMe,Your Ranks addon for Final Frontier ist very cool. With Final Frontier we can see what our Kerbals have done in their Lives an Career. Befor the FF-Mod came out we KSP Players must save this Kerbal hero history in ouer minds. In this case Final Frontier ist very cool and helpfull. Your Ranks addon for Final Frontier give us and the Kerbals much more depht. Great work man.

    Thanks. :) Happy to help.

    But I have some Questions.1. Can an Enlisted Kerbal  Chief Master Sergant became Officer ? (In the real world this is not so easy)

    That's up to you. There's no process here, I haven't created a system that automagically promotes people. You have to award the ribbons, then award the next one when you think the Kerbal is ready.

    If someone with a little bit of programming skill wants to create a plugin that can handle that for me, please, get in touch. I'm totally keen to work on that with someone. But yeah, I can't do that sort of thing.

    2. How works the promotion-system in your addon ?

    Umm, answered above I think. :) Just like all the Role Play ribbons, these are done by you.

    3. The Warrant Officer ranks are very nice but what must a Kerbal do to became a promotion to a Warran Officer ? Is the Kerbal fixed for all times in this Ranks or can he go up to the Officers ranks ? I am from Germany and we have a different ranks system in our Navy/Army but I know how the US/GB System of ranks work. In the Honor Harrington novel-series a high ranked Warrant Officer is equal to a Commander I think. Is this true and how your      addon takes care of it ?

    My understanding of WO's are that they're more or less enlisted men but that they're recognised specialists in their field. So, higher ranking individuals would be silly to ignore them, particularly where they're working in an area where they have expertise.

    However, I'm not a military man. I'll defer to whatever anyone else with more expertise says here (perhaps @Errol might have an opinion?).

    So, my addon doesn't take care of that. It's role play only, and all of it is up to you (unless someone wants to write a plugin for me).

    4. Is your addon stable at the moment ?

    Considering I'm just dealing with graphics... Sort of? I'm still thinking of how to keep everything organised.
