Kerbco career- Chapter 13: Re-return to the Mun
jfull replied to jfull's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Super Special Secret Update So, lately I haven't been playing too much, but I did get a chance to undertake a mission to try and retrieve Tom the Destroyer from its orbit out between Kerbin and Duna. Kerbalkind had developed a strange fascination with Tom since it nearly crashed into their planet a few years back, and I had hoped to bring Tom into orbit of Kerbin so that they could build a base on it. My ambitious plan started out well enough, but then took a turn for the the worse... and then took a completely unexpected turn for the bizarre. Anyway, I didn't really put any story into this update because, due to extraordinary events contained therein, it is of dubious canonicity to the Kerbco storyline (translation: It was really strange so it may or may not be official, you can decide that for yourself.) Also, I'd just like to thank everone who's been following this series! This thread just passed 5,000 views, and its nice to know people are interested. -
You know, I'll probably never use KSPI myself, but I really love to see the crazy sci-fi stuff people make with it.
-
Honestly, it sounds like maybe he was trying "seize the reigns" of KSP and take the creative direction to places that the other devs didn't want it to go. He might not even have been doing it intentionally, but might just have been the kind of person who aggressively tries to implement their own vision without realizing it.

Kerbco career- Chapter 13: Re-return to the Mun
jfull replied to jfull's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
I suppose it does resemble it a little bit. But I'm thinking of making a few revisions to the design, and it might lose those 3 giant radiators in favor of 6 smaller ones. Either way, I'll consider that name. -
[1.1] BDArmory v0.11.0.1 (+compatibility, fixes) - Apr 23
jfull replied to BahamutoD's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Somebody really ought to try making an interplanetary warship using those turrets -
I've already considered integrating some of the design of his plane into my own future planes. However, I would very much like the chance to play around with the craft exactly as he designed it.

Must have Craft file! Craftfilecraftfilecraftfilecraftfile GIVE IT TO ME NOW! Er, what I mean to say is, if you would be so kind as to upload the craft file for the Angel at your convenience, I would be very appreciative.

It is almost certainly worth it, a lot of new features have been added. I can understand your worry about mods though. If I were you I'd uninstall all the mods you have, and look for the newest versions of them. Some of those mods might not have been updated recently or might even be abandoned, so you might have to look for new ones that can replace them.

Kerbco career- Chapter 13: Re-return to the Mun
jfull replied to jfull's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
And I can't wait to send them there! I've actually been putting a lot of thought into how I'm going to do missions to Laythe and the other moons of Jool. Laythe is obviously the most interesting location, with the most potential for life, but I think I want to wait until I've unlocked the really heavy Near Future stuff so I can build a truly epic ship to carry the mission to Laythe. For the immediate future I'm planning to finish up my current super secret surprise mission, followed by the launch of the first probe to Jool and a new Mun base. -
Yeah, why would there be viruses in space unless there was also a host species living in space? also, in all likelyhood, earth life would be a toxic environment to alien microorganisms.

PPD-10 Hittchhiker Storage Container's airlock
jfull replied to CaptainTurbomuffin's topic in KSP1 Discussion
It always amuses me when people try to link a file location on their own computer... Anyway, yeah, you'd need to upload it somewhere. On topic, almost every single pod in KSP has a hatch that lacks an airlock. I don't think this is going to change any time soon, unless they implement connected-living-space-like mechanics and add dedicated airlock modules. -
Yeah, but almost all of those were in orbit. On the moon or on Mars, an Astronaut could fall and puncture their suit on a rock. I'm not saying there's a huge risk of this happening, only that it COULD happen. And if we someday make many missions to other planets, then eventually it will happen, no matter the tiny chance.

I'm gonna start this off by saying that the implanted device I am proposing is just hypothetical. I really have no idea if any research has been done into something like it. Anywhere beyond our home bubble of oxygen is hostile to human life. Space suits help, but if we continue to explore the solar system, then it is only a matter of time before an astronaut experiences a catastrophic loss of suit pressure. But is there a way to keep an astronaut alive (at least temporarily) after that has happened? Imagine a device implanted in the astronaut's lung or otherwise connected to their bloodstream. It would have its own connection to the suit's oxygen supply and would be able to infuse the oxygen directly into the astronaut's blood in the event the suit lost pressure. What I am asking is how long and how well an astronaut would be able to survive using this sort of device. The way I see I it, there are 3 main situations to consider. 1. In vacuum, either in orbit or on an airless body: As I understand it, exposure to vacuum isn't quite as dangerous as movies and other media depict it. You don't explode or instantly freeze. In fact, it would take a very long time for you to freeze because there's no matter to carry away your heat into space. What would happen is that your blood would start boiling and blood vessels near your skin would start to burst. Basically, it would be highly destructive to your body, but if you still had oxygen reaching your brain, could you save yourself, or at least stay conscious long enough to be saved by other astronauts. 2. Mars: The pressure of the atmosphere is incredibly thin, would it really be much different from exposure to vacuum? The presence of atmosphere might actually make it worse, causing you to lose heat faster than you would in vacuum. 3. Titan (a bit far fetched, but still interesting to consider): Here, atmospheric pressure isn't really the dangerous factor, and all you'd need to consider is how long you would last if exposed to the super low temperature and possibly toxic gasses.

What Has the Forum Population Accomplished: Manned Return Missions
jfull replied to theend3r's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I guess my most challenging manned return mission would have to be the time I went to Moho and back. It wasn't very hard in the end, but I had to make a few attempts before I got it right. -
The only thing that I can think of to make this mod better would be a set of air brakes like from b9. B9 is actually has a few small useful parts like that hidden in all the part bloat. It would be nice to see some nice airbrakes in the SP+ style.

I have looked at it too, and unfortunately it isn't to my liking. Almost all the moons of Urania have moons themselves, and more importantly the textures of the planets do not resemble the style of the stock KSP planets. True, but I interpret the tiny solar system as being representative of a real-sized solar system. The smaller size is just to make it easier for players by reducing the dV to orbit and simplifying interplanetary transfers. It also makes it feasible to explore a large portion of the surface of planets in not too much time.
-
This is true, but due to gravitational interactions with the parent planet, the moon's moon wouldn't maintain its orbit forever

KSP- longest dev time for a game
jfull replied to quasarrgames's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Honestly, we really don't know when Squad will decide that KSP is complete... I can't imagine it will be more than 2 years before we get to "release" version -
Did we ever determine whether or not Venus is still geologically active? I mean, its surface is has been shaped by so much EXTREME volcanic activity that its hard to believe that its gone totally quiet...
-
I actually think you might have misunderstood what I meant by realistic (or maybe I just didn't explain myself very well). I'm perfectly happy with the reduced planet scale of the stock KSP planets, and I don't think I'll ever touch RSS. What I meant by unrealistic planets are just planets and moons that just couldn't realistically exist. Stuff like moons around moons, rings around moons (I believe the Sentar system has both of those...), or objects orbiting far too close to each other. Anything that just looks improbable.
-
I've been interested in trying out any mods that add additional planets to KSP for some time now, but a majority of the ones I see are either low quality, have planets that are redundant with existing ones, have very unrealistic planets, or simply contain more planets than I feel like adding. What I'm asking is, what do you think is the best or most realistic planet pack? I have heard that some planets come pre-packaged with Planet Factory, what ones are those?

Kerbco career- Chapter 13: Re-return to the Mun
jfull replied to jfull's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Oh no, they couldn't do anything like that. The Kerbal mind can't comprehend the idea of intentionally causing destruction. Besides, Tom isn't large enough to cause much damage, plus he's out in orbit of the sun! ... ...wait a minute... hold on... I know what my next mission is going to be! *runs off to the Vehicle Assembly Building* -
Kerbco career- Chapter 13: Re-return to the Mun
jfull replied to jfull's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Unless its a mission to Bop or Pol, I'll probably send the landers separately on a dedicated tug. My future plans for the Joolian system involve quite a bit of hardware being shipped out there.
