6 DOF input device -- HID descriptor?
Gargamel replied to Xavier Jiang's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Moved to add-on Discussion. -
A number of posts have been split off into their own thread discussing Orbital Altitude Records, please continue any discussion on that topic there. @Beccab Did have one multi topic post that got moved, you can see it quoted in this thread in this post here.

This thread was split off from the SpaceX thread is it seems to merit it's own discussion. Some semi-personal attacks were also removed, please keep it civil.

Looking for a good 3D printable model (.stl file) of Kerbals.

If you read the description, it tells you where to get the STL's. -

Unless there is a specific need for a new font, the answer is probably no. What does this font bring that others don't already have?

Astra Space Inc. (formerly Ventions) Launch
Gargamel replied to tater's topic in Science & Spaceflight
@Smart Boy, your post has been moved into the proper thread. -
He's also a QA tester for KSP2 for his full time job... so regardless of the state it's in, he gets to play it.

Nope. If a post is on topic and contributes to the thread, then it is not a necro. Posting to an old thread for the sake of posting is a necro and is frowned upon. What? This is one of the friendliest places on the net. It's a forum on science and space, of course disagreements will occur, but it's not unfriendly in the slightest. Yes No, but if it gets excessive, we might give your nominations less weight. Depends. Don't insult anybody and don't break the forums. You can find that out yourself. The name is irrelevant, the number is all that matters. These questions are best asked in the modding sections, some of them are answered by the stickies, some you might need some more direct guidance.

Welcome! I'm not sure what you mean by "hidden", but we do have the Spoiler option. Select your text, and then in the editor GUI, click the Eyeball. Edit: Ok , maybe "hidden" makes more sense now.

EVE and Scatterer not working

Well, there have been flying cars since 1949. It just turns out that they tend to be not very good cars and not very good planes. Oddly enough, almost exactly the same can be said about Fusion.

totm aug 2023 What funny/interesting thing happened in your life today?
Gargamel replied to Ultimate Steve's topic in The Lounge
Just a CNC machinist. That's just my toy at work. I did customize it though. Even when the company rep/engineers came in to work on the system, they didn't even notice the stickers, aside from the name tag, as they look official. -
This article reads identical to a sales brochure for flying cars in the 1950’s. Yeah we’re trying to get there, but we’re still a ways off.

I gave my robot an umbrella. Robots love umbrellas. Frank really seemed to like it. -
Until there is a functioning plant and it’s economical to build more, it will have no affect at all.

For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread
Gargamel replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Ochos Rios, Jamaica. About 100ft down, amongst the coral. Swim out over the edge of the wall, Noped my butt right back into the reef. Edit: Looking at some charts, looks like it was a 5k-7k foot cliff. Probably why I couldn’t see the bottom. -
Moderator note -Dec 12, 2022- : This thread is a mashup of a few threads on updates and advances in Fusion research. Future press releases and updates should be merged into this one. Oxford's JET lab smashes nuclear fusion energy output record https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-60312633 (I’ll merge this into an existing topic if needed once I get home.)

What Would Sensors On Scifi SSTO's Even Look Like?
Gargamel replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Ehhhh... even the Original Cut titled it episode IV, A New Hope. -
Quick question: What's the first thing that comes to mind....
Gargamel replied to StrandedonEarth's topic in The Lounge
Yes, but their parties are very tasty to attend if thrown by the right host. -Moderator Hat on- If we want to have a discussion about MLM's, we can move that to a new thread. Otherwise, let's keep this to the reportedly nicest people on the planet, except when somebody drops a puck. -
What Would Sensors On Scifi SSTO's Even Look Like?
Gargamel replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Or you could have it shielded, like the SOFIA platform: That's a big honkin 'scope inside a 747. As to the bigger question, I don't think there's a good answer for this. Present day engineers have found multiple ways to have exposed sensors while keeping them safely protected, like conformal sonar in submarines, radars in the nose cones of airplanes, even radio antennas built into the back windows of cars. Trying to nail down what futuristic sensor arrays will look like should probably be left upto the author of the story, as there will be very few obvious issues with almost any layout picked. As for the Millenium Falcon's dish.... I'm pretty sure it was just a greeble the model makers threw on there for the cool factor, before the movie was considered to be worthy of considering such implications such as physics and realism as it is today. I don't even think in the original cut of a New Hope there was ever any shots of the Falcon in atmospheric flight. -
Magnetic Blood Artificial Gravity.... Safe-ish?
Gargamel replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
To clarify and supplement my previous statement @Spacescifi (I was at work and somewhat harried when I made the first post, and I feel I should expand on it, my apologies. ) .... as it stands we don't have the technology to safely introduce things like this in the bloodstream now, but there are efforts to create artificial blood substitutes, and the concept of a magnetized additive isn't that far fetched. But.... as mentioned the vascular system wouldn't be able to handle the load. It's a very light weight system of small tubes, it would tear it self to shreds as it wouldn't be able to transfer the loads to the rest of the body. Plus, it's porous. Fluids can seep in and out of the system as needed, but in some illnesses, fluid tends to gather at the feet. Eventually all your blood would seep out of your blood vessels and into your lower extremities, causing severe pedal edema and possibly compartment syndrome which might require the amputation of said extremities, if you managed to survive the lack of blood flow at all. So perhaps instead of a blood additive, some surgical implants in the major bones to harness the magnetic field. But the issue with this idea is that you only gain the ability to stick to the floor, none of the other health advantages of 1g. Your heart would be under less stress, more exercise required, etc etc. But it might have some useful scenarios for this type of setup. Although.... being this is sci-fi.... there is bound to be some sort of combat. I have visions of two smaller vessels latching themselves onto opposite sides of a larger vessel, and alternating a massive magnetic field back and forth. This would be the equivalent of grabbing the larger vessel and shaking it violently until everyone inside is jelly, but without actually shaking it. Could make for some interesting plot points though, to say the least. -
