500,000 science only from 2 biomes at Mun
Gargamel replied to ksp2ube's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Thread moved to Mission Reports. -
And lets get even more pedantic.. It doesn't have to be a spaceplane to be a SSTO. It just has to achieve orbit using only one stage. One could make a (some what weak) argument that mode switching engines might constitute 2 different stages.

Forum mobile interface - can it search only within current thread?

IT got on to it, applied some patches, and...... it didn't fix it. Apparently Invision states this is the intended behavior. We disagree, so bug reports have been filed. Update to fix this? Sometime between tomorrow and never, it's out of our hands now. -

totm may 2022 What musical instrument(s) do you play?
Gargamel replied to AlamoVampire's topic in The Lounge
I used to be a drummer and pianist/xylophonist. But I gave that up after highschool, wish I hadn't. I was decent, but I could pull a song off the radio and in hour or so have a working rendition of it on the piano, usually simplified down to be easily playable on the xylophone. So I guess that's a version of being pitch perfect. Except... a dying seal sings better than I do, I'm not just flat or sharp, I'm like 3-4 notes off, and with horribly ear retching vibrato. So it's a completely useless talent now that I've forgotten how to play the piano. Although I can still do the theme song to Top Gun really well. That one's burned into my brain forever. C-G-G-F-E-D-E-D- C-D-E-D-E-F-E-F-G-C is the opening bit, all naturals. -

Through my interactions with the CM's here, and getting to know some of the staff at both Squad and Intercept, I finally talked them into letting me give you guys access to their in house Live Stream web cam they have set up at Intercept. If you log on, and leave questions, they might sometimes take a peak at the chat and have some discussions with some of you guys! Have a look and see: https://livestream.com/uq/events/5369913/videos/129913304

totm aug 2023 What funny/interesting thing happened in your life today?
Gargamel replied to Ultimate Steve's topic in The Lounge
Couple April fools things. Hid an electronic cricket in boss’s office. It makes a brief chirping noise every 20-30 minutes, randomly. That should drive him nuts for a couple days. It’s my mom’s birthday today (the 31st) and she wanted to have dinner with me and my girlfriend on Saturday. So we picked a place. As it’s the first tome meeting the parents, the girlfriend is pretty nervous. So now that she is asleep, I’ve sent her a text saying Mom and I talked some more and I offered to have the girlfriend cook at her place. She’s not a “cooker”, and only has a kitchenette table for 2. This should make for an eventful morning. -

Project Orion: A discussion of Science and Science Fiction
Gargamel replied to Spacescifi's topic in Science & Spaceflight
And undertall. I would safely wager money on the fact that a significant minority, if not a small majority of people who have been to space would be floating around. But then.... what about 65 kg of water in a (remarkably heavy) 5kg tank? How does the gravity tell it’s working on one thing not two. What if they drink some water? This is what we keep saying. Arbitrarily devised details in fiction create paradoxes in logic that destroy any suspension of disbelief. -
KSP: "Not Planning to be at PAX East this year"
Gargamel replied to DrCHIVES's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Sorry, work got busy and it posted. What I mean by this is..... let them do their thing. The teams are lead by, and composed of some of the biggest fans of KSP there are. We all know this game is in good hands, and they aren’t making this game as a cash grab, they want the best KSP experience they can have too. Personally, I don’t understand the need to know everything about the game right now. In fact, I’d be happiest with overly vague descriptions of some of the features and simple “Yeah, we’re still working on it!” Updates. Even after years go by. I want my KSP2 experience to be one of wonder and discovery. I don’t want to boot up the game knowing what to expect, I want my joy to come from the journey, not the destination. If I sit here meta gaming every aspect of what we do know, then my game play experience will be diminished, and that’s not what I want. To twist the meaning of an aspect of Zen a bit, whether or not they release more info about the game, it won’t change my (or your) life one bit, so I don’t worry about it till it does affect me. Feel like I should say “Namaste” at this point.- 30 replies

For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread
Gargamel replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Huh.... looking up the definition of dirt.... it may be one of the few words that is actually best defined using the word itself. Dirt is the stuff on the ground that makes you dirty. It’s just....dirt. -

Sand is dry dirt Dirt is slightly moist..... dirt. Mud is wet dirt. Soil is dirt with organics. Regolith is (possibly spherical) dirt in a vacuum. -

Stump remover (Potassium Nitrate?) and Sugar? Those should be available. I'd stick with solid fuels until you get very very comfortable machining metal parts that can handle liquids.
