For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread

This. As soon as you try to do anything with it..... fwoof pop! (That’s officially what a matter/antimatter interaction sounds like. Future star ships are going to sound weird... fwoof pop zoom!) -

Ahhha! I knew I smelled a logical fallacy in my thinking somewhere. -

Soooo.... a noticeable amount then? Not just a rounding error amount. Interesting. -

Ohhh good point. Floating plane, gimbals to account for any variance. Nice. So let me rephrase to a hypothetical. In degrees, how much would a fixed plane vary from truly level due to the wobble of the barycenter? -

Ok.... working on a project for the home shop... and the thought was “I’ll need to make sure that’s level”. When in actuality, I only need the table surface to be flat and co-planar with the saw it’s being built for. The term “level” is just a way to describe the perpendicularity of a plane to the force of gravity. For most uses, the fact that dinner doesn’t slide off the table is good enough, for various values of good enough. But how precise can we be with the levelness of a plane? “Down” is basically pointing to the barycenter of the Earth/Moon system, but that wobbles around slightly over time. Given a table top being made at the equator at sea level at a random location, to what degree of levelness can we achieve? -
If you're complaining about kerbal space program forums..

Just because something is newer and shinier doesn’t make it better. In this case, it’s the members that make it better, and it doesn’t matter if we’re posting on a BBS or a forum. -
To each their own. I do not like it at all. There have been a few threads about this topic in the past, some of them using actual Invision template doohickies IIRC, so they are platform independent. They shouldn’t be more than a couple pages back if you want to look.

This is just the gamer tag I’ve been using for 30+ years online. Avatar is kinda obvious. -
The Upcoming Movies (and Movie Trailers) MegaThread!

But I did enjoy it. Dark and interesting. Had it been somebody other than hanks, I dunno. Its not a blockbuster, but I think it’s worthy of a watch. -
No, please direct those to the appropriate sub forum. And if you’re looking for an in-depth answer to a question, please check out:

Will do! So moved!

The Gunslinger from The Dark Tower is a Time Lord, but the story is told from a different point of view.

No. It oxidizes long before reaching any melting point. Removing the oxidizer just creates charcoal. Is this Supposed to be a game or a thread for legitimate questions?

Much less actually, some of it will be taken up by fastening it to your vehicle, and if it's raining you'll want to stay away from the edges.

Coworker asked if I knew about the plans to send up Big Bird on the Challenger. I have vague recollections of this, especially since there was an educational push on that mission. Couple articles I saw also confirmed this, but with vague sources. Can we confirm this? I can only imagine the trauma I would have felt if 8 year old me had watched Big Bird burn up live on TV. -

The Upcoming Movies (and Movie Trailers) MegaThread!
Gargamel replied to StrandedonEarth's topic in The Lounge
Overlapping Lightyear threads have been merged. Saw Dune today. Easily the best movie I’ve seen all year. I tried reading the source material maybe 30 years ago, don’t remember a thing about it. With that in mind, this is an amazing movie. Actors are all top notch. The set design should win awards. And while I can’t speak for how close it came to the book, the length of the movies (there will be more) seems to imply they are trying their best to follow the story line. And yes, I’m now reading the book. -
Honestly, we used to keep pizzas warm in a similar fashion. The floorboards of the middle of the cabs of older Ford E350 ambulances would get very hot. Put down a pizza in its box, lay a jacket over it, and it’d stay warm all day.

The fuel canisters for the type of stove are quite small. If you get into an accident that compacts the car enough to actually crush and rupture one..... well the “small” fire hazard this causes would be 4th or 5th on your list of immediate concerns at that moment. I’ve been camping since before I could walk, spent well over a year of my life in a tent, and spent over a decade in EMS. I never heard of one of these rupturing. Not saying it can’t, it’s just a “monsters under the bed” concern.

Parks, camping areas, rest stops, etc, they all have public bathrooms too, ones that don't make you feel guilty for using them without buying something. They also usually have picnic tables, some under awnings, available too. Walmarts are also very inviting to the traveller staying in their parking lots for short periods of time.
