Congratulations to... bdito Advanced Pilot Precision Award with twin rapier delta design. Mesklin Advanced Pilot Precision Award with Brynhildr (current minimalist record holder at 1.708t). raygundan Utilitarial Commendation (36t) and the Advanced Pilot Precision Award with Cormorant. - Expeditionary Astrokerbal Distinction (Laythe), Kosmokerbal Commendation (Minmus) Expeditionary (Duna, Pol, Bop), Advanced Pilot Precision Award with Loon. kahlzun Advanced Pilot Precision Award with starscream mk2. WhiteKnuckle Advanced Pilot Precision Award with Nomad SXI (VTOL). Death Engineering Advanced Pilot Precision Award with Just a Space Pane. drewscriver Expeditionary Astrokerbal Distinction, Expeditionary Utilitarial Commendation (Duna) Advanced Pilot Precision Award with Alaflux. ... for successfully completing the K-Prize mission and thankyou all for your reports. Welcome to the guest list for the K-Prize party. Mesklin has become the latest to break the minimalist record with the diminutive Brynhildr, well played. raygundan to explain the awards for your ingenious second mission, the K-Prize applies to the entire craft, there are precedents for turning the command pod into a rover or lander (which is a worthy feat but does not count as payload delivery) and the rule is that the awards only count up to the point the craft splits or from the point of reassembly. I hope that makes sense and is agreeable for you. Interesting VTOL deployment btw WhiteKnuckle. GeorgeG currently your payload return mission would count as an Advanced Pilot Precision Award for docking in orbit and is perfectly in keeping with the K-Prize mission under the circumstances you describe. It is a useful mission in game due to the reclaim value of spent sats and a lot easier to do in terms of physics than a Utilitarial Commendation which is why, re Camaron's suggestion, I think its not worth over-complicating the K-Prize rules to add another award for a lesser achievement imho (it would at least require another proviso for command pods and solar panels for example). This is because some newcomers find the rules a bit involved already plus I have to award all prizes by hand, so more complicated for me too. If the K-Prize could be scripted as an in game mission mod then it could be worth adding a "Scrapcycle Credit" or something. I am not working on such a mod myself, though I would invite anyone who is capable of making it and into the idea to feel free to PM me. Its still a nice mission I agree, just a bit beyond the K-Prize remit which is really about seeing how far you can go and how much you can take with you in a reusable spaceplane, as an incentive to Kerbal spaceplane engineers... to visit the Dog and Booster!

Congratulations to Foxster, astrobond and GeorgeG on completing the K-Prize successfully. Welcome (back in some cases) to the K-Prize party guest list and thanks for your mission reports. Well the minimalist and maximalist records have been swapping hands fairly regularly but at the time of posting this they both reside with GeorgeG so congratulations, I particularly like the image of Buh Hee Moth landing on Minmus. Well played astrobond and Foxster for your respective minimalist missions which each held the minimalist record for a time.

Congratulations to ValCab33, TrypChangeling, Monsterlunch, Sean Mirrsen and Right on successfully completing the K-Prize challenge. Welcome to the guest list for the K-Prize party aka the roll of honour. Yes... gatecrasher links can be removed for versions where players have completed the K-Prize, if you want your latest gatecrasher link to stay then the entire quip needs to stay to make sense, but previous version links have been removed. If you want the latest removed then it can be and the entire quip deleted since you have completed the K-Prize mission for this version. Up to you. Stratogale Mk2 has an interesting configuration, I agree the dual engine body is admissable since you say it does not modify lift, thrust or endurance which is provided by stock components only. For other readers please see Page 1 for rules on which mod components are admissable. FYI Monsterlunch the Pilot Proficiency Medal is subsumed within the Advanced Pilot Precision Award since the latter demonstrates a higher degree of precision.

Congratulations to Merandix Starwhip and Cupcake... for completing the K-Prize challenge successfully. Thanks for sharing your mission reports and welcome to the guest list for the K-Prize party. Cupcakes videos in particular deserve a mention for the creative depiction of a day in the life of a Kerbin spaceway patrol cop, nice work. The interesting lighting effects were surreally reminiscent of that toll gate sequence in Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, might explain a thing or two. I am assuming the first vector of that take-off was horizontal since I recall we discussed that before. Starwhip, thanks for the screeny, your word is good here. I linked the original mission and the update. Do you want the Gatecrasher listing removed? Merandix congratulations on Svadilvari becoming the maximalist record holder. Thats one big horse you got there. Sean Mirrsen, thanks for your gatecrasher mission report which I linked beside your other gatecrasher link..!

Sorry Camaron, I cannot really explain why I added your link to Captain Vlad's gatecrasher... anyway I may have been distracted. I have given you your very own well deserved gatecrasher listing now. Sorry to hear about your game save, I know space planes are quite a long way into the game having got there myself only recently. Hope you find a fix or alternatively enjoy the replay. Maybe you should post the corrupted saves on the bugtracker so squad can take a look at them?

Looks good norup, congratulations on completing the K-Prize challenge successfully with your Skylon inspired design, which it just so happens is heavy enough to become the new maximalist record holder. Welcome to the guest list for the K-Prize party aka the roll of honour.

Camaron, cargo bay is not compulsory, you can drop stuff any which way you choose. Your report of further explosions (bad luck) and fuel shenanegins has been linked by adding it to your existing gatecrasher entry. Hope that is OK. Horus5239 to answer your question, craft can be as big as you like but refuelling is not part of the K-Prize mission parameters, please see Proviso B for rule 1 on the rules page. Congratulations to :- GeorgeG on acquiring the minimalist record for the while and thankyou for no less than four successful K-Prize missions in one report. Starhawk on reaching the Mün and getting back in one piece ++. ManlyPotatoe on getting into orbit and back without cheating. All linked and logged and thanks to all for your reports and participation. Starwhip I am really sorry about this as its a good mission with the two utilitarial deliveries on Minmus, going well right up to the explosion thing but if you are saying your Starstreaker III mission craft had bits explode on landing it cannot count as a K-Prize until landing is completed without exploding, though you can replay from a save and that is fine. I am afraid your craft and GeorgeG's triple decker undoubtedly ran into a bug. It has happened before and the precedent is that you get a gatecrasher report link. The option exists that if you complete the mission from a save or rerun it without incident you can have a party guest list link for the successful mission and the gatecrasher link removed, your call. I recommend reporting this on Squad bugtracker, including relevant info about which version of the game you are playing (sandpit, career) and the conditions surrounding the event and any replication attempts.

OK CaptainVlad, I will leave the gatecrasher as it is. Goodluck megatiger78, I feel I ought to check you know that the take off for a K-Prize mission needs to move horizontally as its first direction of travel.

Thanks very much for you mission reports CaptainVlad and antihifi and congratulations to you both on completing the K-Prize successfully and also earning the much prized Utilitarial Commendation for putting a paylod into orbit and the highly regarded Advanced Pilot Precision Award for landing on the KSC runway. Welcome to the K-Prize party guest list aka roll of honour. CaptainVlad, since you completed the challenge successfully you now have the option to get your gatecrasher listing removed if you wish, otherwise it can stay where it is if you prefer. Your call. antihifi you might be interested to know that the default screenshot hotkey for KSP is F1 and this works in game putting the screeny in a folder inside the game installation folder, here - DRIVE:\SteamLibrary#\SteamApps\common\Kerbal Space Program\Screenshots. Thanks for your screenies Camaron and good luck with completing the challenge.

Batz_10K congratulations on acquiring the minimalist record holder title. What is the name of the craft? I gave it a placeholder name for now. Anyway it is very small. Agifem thanks for your screeny and link to the mission report on the flight of SpacePlane Mk1, congratulations on completing the K-Prize successfully with an advanced pilot precision award for docking in orbit. Welcome to the K-Prize party guest list aka the challenge roll of honour. Captain Vlad thanks for your mission report of a brave attempt, sadly the little known "not exploding" rule has to be invoked (see rule 1) and the mission will duly be linked as a gatecrasher. RO-1 Torpedo is a fine looking and capable craft and I feel sure that once you iron out the teething difficulties she will be capable of completing the K-Prize successfully. Also FYI so you dont waste your efforts in the wrong direction you should know that what appears to be the "payload" apparently cannot be detached so is part of the craft and doesnt qualify as payload as it stands. You also probably need to know that the utilitarial awards require the payload to be delivered ie dropped off and for the distinction the payload has to be delivered to a planet surface other than Kerbin to count. I have amended the rules to make this clearer. As for stabilising your cargo bay fuel tank I recommend struts, also the tank appears to be clipping a girder stack and this may have contributed to the instability and explosion as the game can react strangely to clipping especially when internal collisions are induced by a sudden G force. If you want to make it a payload then you will need to used docking components or decouplers and you can use struts with those until undocked, but for retrieval you may be interested to know you can use more than one docking port on the same craft simultaneously so you can stabilise a payload for retrieval with two docking ports for example (which is the most I have tried) providing they are precisely aligned with counterparts they will both dock at the same time.

Congratulations to ... Starhawk Advanced Pilot Precision Award with Sparrow Mk2. hoioh Utilitarial Commendation, Advanced Pilot Precision Award with Triple Swallow. Batz Advanced Pilot Precision Award with Turbo Finch LTSP R. Signo Advanced Pilot Precision Award with Sunbeam 090. Jonboy Kosmokerbal Commendation (Minmus) with MX-1 (current maximalist record holder at 47.4t), carlpilot with Mercury A. GeneralMDBK Advanced Pilot Precision Award with Ant (current minimalist record holder at 6t). ... on completing the K Prize challenge successfully with an interesting range of ingenious designs. Thanks for your mission reports. Welcome to the K-Prize roll of honour aka party guest list. Small though the specified weights of Turbo Finch and Sunbeam 090 are they are not as small as GeneralMDBK's Ant which holds the minimalist record for now. The maximalist record is currently held by Jonboy's MX-1. Also Jonboy the capsule/rover idea is a neat exercise in its own right and interesting to see, but to explain the awards, for K-Prize purposes the challenge is about how far the entire craft will go so accomplishments are recognised to the point where the craft is entire, which means the accomplishments of a payload or lander do not count to the K-Prize. FYI hope that makes sense. Thanks all I hope you enjoyed the challenge.

Congratulations to ChaoticPhoenix, Kokanee x2 and YellowApple for successfully completing the K-Prize mission and a few little extras besides. I am having a hard time deciding which is the smallest of the four successful craft but I suspect it is Ascension by Kokanee. However I am going to make it a requirement henceforth that contenders for the weight records submit their craft's exact weight at liftoff so at this point noone has it. SkyRex94 I liked the Skylon lookalike, very sleek, I hope you enjoy your gatecrasher entry as it used FAR which breaks rule 3, which I have since amended for greater clarity. Hope everyone had a merry christmas and I wish you all a Happy New Year.

Have you killed any of your level 5 kerbals yet?
boolybooly replied to Tanner Rawlings's topic in KSP1 Discussion
In my hard game my one star Jeb died in a tragic hill walking accident, which is what happens when you make Kerbals run over rough terrain at 4x acceleration, apparently. Luckily I alt F4d and got him back, which is cheating but so is killing a Kerbal for running over a mountain peak so ner. -
IMHO playing the career currently reveals how the game is a beta full of ad hoc content which needs to be made into a game. The parts content and tech tree ordering and mission system dont fit together and need careful crafting to create a sense of logical progression. This is what I would like to see happening in the next iteration. Currently a majority of missions have ultra low relevancy. The near zero reward procedural part test missions for example just need to go. The missions need to be relevant to the players exploration and rewarding. Why for example are there no EVA missions for science from Kerbin biomes? Because you cant do that with the current tech tree. Conclusion being the tech tree and parts content need developing to allow the mission based play experience to be developed. For example, where is the low tech ladder system and size 1 crew cabin for ride along scientists to enable that kind of early EVA mission? Also what is the point of having wings and a jet cockpit if you have no aero engines or undercarriage in the same tech tier? The game has got some ad hoc content but it doesnt nearly have all the stuff it needs to offer the player choices which make sense. It has not yet been thought through as a game experience from the player perspective. So the content to help with this and the missions this enables are what I would like to see coming through, including the barns of course!

Can anyone explain why this is? I completed a few mission flights with Jeb and he got a star. Then I tried a mission with Bob (which is tricky because of no SAS) and he succeeded in completing a view mission which had some science in the crew report and got 1 XP and half his bar filled up. I tried another mission in which he got me a crew report, some landed EVA science, which is his job, landed safely and was recovered from Kerbin but missed the view target so no XP. Then I completed a third flight in which he achieved the view mission objective earning money and rep and science but again he got no XP and his bar stayed the same. Why is the game not responding to my efforts? Am I doing something wrong? Is it because the mission profiles are all ballistic sub orbital so he gets no further XP because he hasnt been out of the atmopshere? How can I find out what I need to do to advance my Kerbals?

Never mind DMSP your mission made the gatecrasher list Congratulations to kahlzun, hoioh, Spartwo, manni01, Astrobond and WanderingKid for successfully completing the K-Prize challenge and bringing their craft safely back to Kerbin. Welcome to the guest list for the K-Prize party aka the roll of honour. btw not sure if this is the longest challenge kahlzun but it has lasted a while and I will continue as long as it makes sense. If any enterprising mission modder was able to construct a mod mission script that could take on the functions of the K-Prize I would be happy to get the K-Prize committee to give it the stamp of approval and hand over the name and running of the K-Prize to that.

Anyone else want to like career mode but just can't?
boolybooly replied to Fourjays's topic in KSP1 Discussion
To be honest, as a big fan, I find I am not playing much at the moment though I am trying to help beta test another game so that is partly why. I like the challenge of KSP career mode on hardest settings but the mission system seems very procedural, offering crazy missions which don't make sense. So I am looking forward to the next update hoping the missions will be improved. I think they matter a lot and we are getting to the point now where the content has to be honed and balanced, which lets face it it isn't due to the previous emphasis on building the game systems which has succeeded in its intention. IMHO the missions need to be more closely tailored to the play experience. It often doesn't make sense to do missions paying less than the cost of the part being tested for example so why offer them or impossible missions like testing launch stabilisers on the Mün. I would also like to see innovations in resourcing such as reputation for an achievement even if you dont have a mission for it, kind of like an invisible mission condition system, eg landing a Kerbal on Minmus or Duna or a probe or whatever should boost reputation whether you have a sponsor or not, so you can use the conversion system to turn that into other resources. In fact I think you probably need to be able to get money from space as well, on your own initiative ie all three resources should be available (sell moon rocks or mine potassium isotopes...!) so to place the initiative back with the player, because currently the missions control all resources except research and dictate what is possible which is actually inhibiting as missions tend to follow rather than lead your play. So as a player I feel like a puppet dangling from the broken strings of an incomplete mission system but I am sure that will improve a lot in future updates so I am happy to be patient. -
Hi gm537, congratulations on completing the K-Prize challenge successfully with your SSTO VTOL, since the craft did take off horizontally even if the pilot did drop in at the admin helipad restaurant for a coffee on the way up! The K-Prize panel concluded that while this shows advanced pilot precision, landing twice in the same mission only counts if it is on different planet to the one it took off from and coffee is, in any case, its own reward! (The APPA 1st class requires orbital docking as well, but you do get a VTOL mention in brackets in the guest list / roll of honour, I hope that will suffice though it is a bit redundant since the name you gave includes VTOL anyway).

Congratulations to Damaske, CocoDaPuf and GoSlash27 on completing your respective K-Prize missions successfully. Well played all. The guest list is updated and GoSlash27 that worked out at 3x APPA *1st Class* since the 1st Class is awarded for achieving both APPA objectives in one launch. I hope that makes you happy, I believe that is the best number of launches yet for APPA 1st Class on a single load. Previously Pinolallo made x2.

GoSlash27, Kerbals dont count because they dont weigh anything. Starwhip, well played and congratulations on completing the K-Prize challenge successfully. Look forward to seeing your mission screens whenever Imgur decides to play ball. I am assuming all parts were stock in the absence of images? (Since you were careful to observe the rules. Please let me know if that is not correct.) So welcome to the Guest List for the K-Prize party aka roll of honour.
