That's why I think the science lab is among the most broken parts in the game. I only ever use it as a Kerbal leveling up part. The fact that it's super worth it just for that says something about how broken it is with even more benefit.

Is Half Of A Pair Of Pants Called A Pant?
Superfluous J replied to RonanTheDestroyer's topic in The Lounge
I believe the correct term for half of a pair of pants is "unfinished" or "trash" depending on the situation. -
I think it'll work if you edit the file to say it's for version 1.8.1 If you don't know, the file is persistent.sfs and it's just a text file. The version is right at the top in the header. If that doesn't work your best bet is to look in the backups folder for the save you made before upgrading to 1.9

So the new Drain Valve produces thrust ... and is quite broken.
Superfluous J replied to Xurkitree's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Disclaimer: I've not tried this - or even loaded 1.9 - myself. I'm going by what people are saying. From what I can tell there are two actual bugs. Intake Air has a typo so it can be vented when it shouldn't, and the cap on how quickly you can vent (and therefore the thrust you get) is not present when using the KAL9000 part. Seems like two minor oversights. Or as software professionals refer to it, a release. -

That seems to come from nowhere but hey. I'm cool with simplifications for gameplay (rtg running forever is probably more accurate than patched conics for most missions) but right click to make ore disappear (by the way is that still a thing?) has always bugged me. -

I disagree. They should provide some thrust, ideally the same thrust they would in real life. -
The file is settings.cfg. IMO it's more important than my persistent file I back it up before installing a new version (I do so manually) and have never been sad by it. If you can get a backup of the file, there are no new settings for 1.9 that I saw so you can just put it in there and it'll work fine. but if you're using Steam and don't back anything up then it's probably gone

Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
Superfluous J replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The third doctor in Dr Who incessantly reversed the polarity of the positronic flow. I read somewhere that the actor was terrible at technobabble and that was the only line he could deliver consistently. -
Bad science in fiction Hall of Shame
Superfluous J replied to peadar1987's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Oh this thread! I thought of this thread while watching Lost in Space season 2 (the new one on Netflix) when someone said something to the tune of "Increase Delta-V 20%!" Though now that I type that, they could have meant "increase acceleration from 100m/s2 to 120m/s2. But I think they were just throwing words around. -
So is KSP2 "aiming (at?) the future"? Or is DLC that? If it's KSP2, they're not making it. They have no say on if KSP2 gets made or not or how it gets made. If I worked for Squad it would terrify me, in fact. All Squad has a say in as far as Kerbal IP goes is what they do with KSP(1). If it's DLC, how is DLC not satisfying the current userbase? Because it's not 1.3? Or is it something else that I didn't think of? Just to be clear I am truly not understanding. I'm looking for clarity and am not trying to argue.
-
I don't understand this analogy in this context. What metaphorical cake does Squad have and how are they trying to eat it too? Ignore the fact that cake is pretty much useless if you can't eat it.

Missing R&D building
Superfluous J replied to Syczek's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
And a pic of the KSC. It probably won't help but I kinda wanna see it. -
KSP2 is a totally different game from different developers. Applying KSP code to KSP2 would be like applying improvements to a seat in a fighter jet to your sofa.

What was the heaviest payload that you launched to orbit?
Superfluous J replied to AHHans's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I don't even have the save, or the install any more. What I do have is a video and I probably had KER Windows up. I'll watch it when I can. -
Simple? You own one of the games already and don't know if the other ones sucks yet. Even if it doesn't suck, it has no mods for it and we don't even know what mods we'd like yet. It's a simple choice for YOU. The world is made up of many other people who aren't you and aren't in even remotely the same situation you are in. I personally will buy KSP2 right after I see a couple reviewers I trust give it the thumbs up. Hopefully on day 1 but maybe up to a week after it hits. I will likely play it to the exclusion of at least KSP1 if not all other games for quite some time. But if it fails on enough points, I'll be right back here playing on my modded solar system.
-
That is not obvious at all. Neither is the release date of KSP2 obvious. No, 1.10

The problem generally is that stock contracts (and most contract packs!) make assumptions about the system. Like I said, a Pe of 80 is fine when your atmosphere ends at 70, but when the atmosphere reaches to 85 that becomes more troublesome. Another big place for assumptions is in costs. It's fine asking us to lift 2000 units of fuel into LKO in the stock game, but in RSS the contract's payment won't cover the cost of the ship. Ideally, the contract system would take that kind of thing into account. We don't live in an ideal world though. Generally in this or any other 2.5x pack, things are tighter but still perfectly doable. And as always (even in the stock game!) you need to think about the contract and decide for yourself if you'll profit from it (and how much profit you can expect) and whether or not that makes the contract worth it. The margins are just tighter here, and most of us like that
-
I had a rescue contract with a Pe inside Kerbin's atmosphere but I just rescued the guy near Ap instead no other issues. I'm not using any contract packs and don't have Contract Configuraror installed.

What was the heaviest payload that you launched to orbit?
Superfluous J replied to AHHans's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I have no idea the orbital mass, and don't know (but can find out) the launchpad mass, but I'm pretty sure my biggest launch ever was my original Joolpollo launch back in 0.23.5 (I think) I doubt it breaks any records though. -
Craftses! Creeftses! Sorry just watched Willy Wonka again. Also the land is blue (or white) and the suits have weird blocky things on them.

Not quite so bad here. For me it was this weekend. But I've decided I can't play at less than 2.5 times (except challenges I suppose) so for me it won't be 1.9 until Kopernicus and JNSQ run on it.

You may want to try one or both of Run ksp in a window. Turn off "fullscreen" in settings, set the resolution to your monitor resolution, and then run it with the -popupwindow parameter. I've been doing this for years because it records better this way and one of the benefits is that doing other things at the same time is less jarring if not less taxing on the computer. Save the dV map locally and open it with an image viewer instead of your browser. Browsers are crazy resource hogs. That said, an in-game dV map would be pretty cool, though I recall looking at custom KSPedia pages when it first came out, and after about 5 minutes just accepting that I'll never put the time and effort into it.

IMPORTANT Announcement about MiniAVC and ZeroMiniAVC

I knew I deleted all miniavc.dll files on every game start for a reason. Not THIS reason of course, but A reason
