Summary of Squadcast 2015/01/12
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Remember Maxmaps is a programmer. He could mean that it's going to be more in-depth in the code as opposed to riding on top. Remember that I am *not* a programmer so I am talking out my mohole -
Summary of Squadcast 2015/01/12
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
He specifically used the word "predictable" in at least 2 places, and I don't remember the word "intuitive" being used once. I think we may need to wait for the dev blog to know for sure any specifics. -
[1.1.2] Kerbal Konstructs v0.9.7.1 - Slopey Glidey
Superfluous J replied to AlphaAsh's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Oh that would be sweet. A site in Keosynchronous orbit with the implication that it's the top of a space elevator If you do it right you could even "land" on it as your orbital speed would match its "orbit." Too bad (I assume) you can't have docking ports on these buildings.- 872 replies

I posted this on another thread but was not happy that it was going to be buried several pages deep, so here it is in its own thread. No time stamps, but I put breaks when there was a decent amount of time where I didn't take notes because he didn't say anything relating to 0.91: No resource system now, so they're going to sneak in one more system. Set expectation right away: Not adding big new features. Small stuff maybe Need to add a lot of balance to the game. Every part, mechanic, payout. Some massless parts may get mass again. They will balance the engines when they change the atmosphere. - no sense balancing them first. Thinner rockets better, Asparagus less effective. Pancake not as effective. Planes more predictable. Not aiming for realism. Aiming for more predictable, and it will end up being realistic because of it. They want more realistic BECASUE it's more predictable. Planes that can fly now shouldn't be able to. "Puffer fish" plane. 1st person EVAs, non-committal answer. "Definite maybe" Elon musk discussion. Everything has to be completely gone through. "Really really really want to take the grind out of science." Too much clicking. Science, being the first system added to career, is in the worst shape. It needs polished. Need to do a pass over the audio. Make sure user interface is fantastic. Example: Dings when contracts complete. New version of Unity will help memory - NOT 5.0. 64 bit "could be way better." The problem is actually not with instability, though it is unstable. The problem is that it's hurting modders. Users are unkind. They have considered pulling 64 bit. Moddable buildings. "A lot more of that coming" In the cards, toward the future. whole tech tree needs to be rebalanced. maybe mk1 (plane?) parts very early doesn't remind you of current one at all rework it deeply Aerodynamics model 2 things: This is the PLAN. Not necessarily what it will be redo aero (overhaul), change what info is available while building a plane. So it will be more predictable. No new plane parts, just make the low-tier parts available earlier. multiplayer is coming, someone working on it. low level stuff, client communication. mk3 parts need bigger wings? Maybe, but the current wings will be better when they react to air more correctly. Not taking FAR approach. It's great, but they are taking a more in-depth look at the mechanics and changing the core system. Devblog will have more info. "completely different" Will be working on a blog post. 0.91 will not be as flashy as past updates. Balance. Polish. game needs to look like a proper completed game. MK3 IVA absolutely. A lot of things need IVA. IVAs are long projects, not something you knock out in an afternoon. New landing gear. They are going to overhaul current, and make a bigger one for mk2, "like the shuttle" and a BIG one for MK3 parts.

Stock Aero News from the Squadcast
Superfluous J replied to Alshain's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I don't want to muddy the waters with a new post, but am not totally happy posting this on page 4 where nobody will see it. But here are my notes I took when I watched this. I changed my mind. Sorry about that http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/107095-Summary-of-Squadcast-2015-01-12 -
[old thread] Trajectories : atmospheric predictions
Superfluous J replied to Youen's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
No it's "Fixed Body Mode." That's the path your ship will appear to take from someone standing on the ground. -
Stock Aero News from the Squadcast
Superfluous J replied to Alshain's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Why can't we get both at the same time? Or did they say they weren't going to do fairings? My Twitch downloader (I hate using their streaming crap) isn't working because Twitch changed the way they store videos, probably to break downloaders. EDIT: I found a new one. Sweet, I can watch it myself now. -
Your deviation is not minimal, it's actually maximal. You're going backwards There are dots on the target orbit that go around in the direction your ship should be going. When you've got it right, the AN should be 0, not 180. Also, it doesn't need to be 0. It can be like 1 or even 3 sometimes and you'll still nail it.

I've never had this problem, but I would really like there to be a cancel contract hotkey. Nothing worse than moving the mouse back and forth 30 times while the game keeps regenerating the same "Test this part at an altitude and speed that nobody ever wants to test anything at, for this tiny pittance of a reward" contract.

[1.3.0] Kerbal Engineer Redux 1.1.3.0 (2017-05-28)
Superfluous J replied to cybutek's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
4 posts up from yours It's in the options. I'm not in the game right now so can't look at the screen but I'm pretty sure it's on the first page of options.(I'm not in the game right now either) -
Do you still use the old rotation keys?
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Discussion
You will note that I didn't actually say what the keys were in the first post. -
Do you still use the old rotation keys?
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Discussion
*throws his false teeth to scare KerbMav off his lawn* Oh so much this. Doing this with landing gear (for a lander, not a plane) is and switching to the gizmo (which I did at least learn the hotkeys for. Hear that, KerbMav? You did! Then you're still on my lawn!) after 7 or 8 incorrect keypresses got me to SWEAR I'd force myself to use the gizmo ONLY. Then 5 seconds later I was hitting keys, so I came here and made this poll instead of working on my ship -
How to show "What you did": Mission Profile Notation
Superfluous J replied to Thunderous Echo's topic in KSP Fan Works
Hard to tell based just on an image but it looks pretty friendly to me. I can't tell though how to use it just by looking at it. Can you drag those planets around? How do you put your ship into orbit around one of them? Can you have 3 "Kerbin"s on the screen? If so, how do you specify which one you're talking about? -
1. They do what we do, essentially. They have very smart people with very sophisticated computers and fantastic information gathering abilities, so they know exactly where everything important is and where it's going, and what burns to do to make the probe go where they want so it'll be in the right place at the right time to intersect its target. 2. I secretly believe that NASA has a full 10-year plan for every "90 day" mission they've ever made. They can't tell the public about this, though, because if in year 5 the probe breaks down the press will be all over them about how they failed halfway through. If it breaks in year 5 of a 90 day mission, though, they look super frugal and resourceful keeping the little guy running for that long.

Do you still use the old rotation keys?
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Discussion
'I'm talking about VAB. I didn't know the ones in flight were also called gizmos I also like retrograde during descent but with newer pilots and probes I also like holding prograde on ejection burns where you set up a maneuver node to only go prograde. You have to watch it more but not having to keep it on the marker is nice. -

Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Don't get me wrong: I agree with you here. Using the gizmo for ANYTHING is totally fine. Smart, in fact. I just can't get my lizard brain to accept it -
[1.3.x] SETI, Unmanned before Manned [Patreon]
Superfluous J replied to Yemo's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I'll admit you've got me more than a little excited. I'm going to start a new instance of KSP with this mod to kick the tires, so to speak. YES. I wish in the stock game they had gone with this. Why have a 100 tank, a 200, a 400, and an 800? Why not give us a single fuel MK1 fuel tank and limit our ability to stretch it to tech level? Grrrr. Is there a list of parts you don't use? Preferably by name of directory so I can quickly delete them? EDIT: BAH. Kerbalstuff is down right now, and I've only got 45 minutes until I'm on crappy internet for the night. Oh well I'll play with it this weekend hopefully- 2,515 replies

who knows a mod for organize parts in VAB
Superfluous J replied to Socke750's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
I just wish you could sort AND filter. Within the already set categories. Why can't I sort all purchased solar panels by cost without creating and maintaining my own custom category? -
I believe that is Kerbal Engineer Redux, the 1.x version.
-
I don't know why, but for some reason deep down in my psyche I feel that the rotation gizmo is... not cheating... but... taking the easy road. I still find myself, most of the time, using the old rotation keys (and fiddling with them incessantly until I find the right one. Every time) and only resorting to the rotation gizmo when I simply can't get what I want. Whenever I DO use the gizmo, it's simple, clean, and I wonder why I didn't go to it earlier. But the next time I need to rotate something, right back to the old method I go. I don't have a similar issue with the translation gizmo. I go to it frequently and with fervor, excitedly sliding whatever piece I get my hands on exactly where I want it like never before. Am I alone in this, or so others share my madness?

[1.12.x] Kerbal Alarm Clock v3.13.0.0 (April 10)
Superfluous J replied to TriggerAu's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Also for landing at ground bases. I frequently have a ship in orbit that I want to land, but I don't want to do it until it's light at my destination. -
I hated this one too. It's actually the main reason I installed the Alternate Resource Panel mod (though the actual purpose of the mod is also great).
