  1. It's more that the greenhouses are there for some inefficient recycling until you get something better.
  2. To slow the craft enough that a full parachute won't rip itself apart when deployed.
  3. Yes but how are you extracting it and placing it in the folder? The zip file has the proper folder structure so it is obviously the extracting and placing that's the issue. - - - Updated - - - Don't rely on CKAN for that.
  4. Ferram has said he is considering just hiding the CoL altogther because it can be very misleading. He says to use the derivatives instead. Are your rockets flipping on ascent? If so how are you doing your gravity turn? Pitch over a few degrees at about 100m/s until your prograde matches your heading and then lock heading to prograde. Since your AoA is then effectively 0 there shouldn't be much pitching moment and whatever control you have should be enough even if you are dynamically unstable. Actually your CoM seems pretty far back and that will make you pretty unstable but that may be due to the lack of payload.
  5. It's not done in real life because unfortunately your assumption that there is somewhere you can decelerate at high velocities without heating is incorrect. If you are decelerating then your kinetic energy is being reduced. That energy has to go somewhere and that somewhere is in heating the air around the chute which heats the chute itself. Remember that the shock temperature in Kelvin is roughly equal to the speed of the craft and parachutes have a large area for thermal transfer and very low thermal mass so they heat very quickly. Then there is the fragility, take a look at the supersonic chute on the LDSD test.
  6. It does fit in FAR scope though. - - - Updated - - - You feel it is too hard to slow a plane down. What is ferram supposed to do now? Make it so that it is easier to slow down just because you feel that way? Do tests to show that you are correct? He has done tests and they led him to the system as it now is. You want him to do even more tests in his own time to counter what he has already seen? Act on hard data that you provide him? This is what he is asking for. If you can show him that your feeling is correct then he will have no problem fixing things.
  7. Electric Charge Amount, how much electricity is used for life support.
  8. At what angle of attack? That is the most important factor. - - - Updated - - - I think the problem is you are building something in KSP and then trying to find something similar to it in real life. Try finding something in real life that has the data Ferram needs and then build that as exactly as you can in KSP.
  9. Oh CKAN............ if you find a bug don't rely on it to do what you think it should.
  10. Tell us exactly how you are trying to grab the part. Key presses, everything.
  11. I very much doubt EPL hides its own part so probably best to ask in the MKS thread.
  12. Two things; Don't rely on CKAN to keep you up to date especially if you find a bug, and don't say your mod is "current", "newest", "latest" or "up to date". Find out the actual version of your mod. This isn't a real time conversation so don't make people have to try figure out what your current version is. Also, a significant fraction of those people that say they have the latest then find out they don't. Looking for yourself can save everyone a lot of time.
  13. You need to select lock shape or somesuch on the fairing side. Once you have done that you don't even need the fairing base. Granted without that you may loose stock shielding, but then you will probably loose stock shielding if you put an IR part between the base and the sides anyway. FAR automatically shields any part that is enclosed completely so should be fine.
  14. Just trying to be helpful here but look back through the thread before asking. Really, you could have seen on the previous page that is was being worked on. On the page before that you would have seen why m4v has good reasons to NOT work on it, including but not limited to people continuing to ask if it is getting updated.
  15. Like he said, the fins are angled to create spin. So much spin "to the point where it looks like it's about to tear itself to pieces:"
  16. Just a heads up: Never just say "newest" or "current" or "latest". First, this isn't a real-time conversation and it takes time to check when you posted that comment and reference it to a particular version, or versions when you are talking about multiple mods. Second, you would be amazed how often people say that only to later say "oops, my bad, it wasn't" or "a reinstall magically fixed it". That's a lot of wasted time trying to figure out a problem that may have already been fixed but the author now doesn't know if he actually fixed it. Just the act of trying to find out the version number to put it into a support request is often enough for someone to see the problem and fix it themselves.
  17. The first part is. The second part is why it's actually done. The nom-o-matic produces just a bit more than a kerbal uses so you shouldn't need to EVA the Kerbal to catch up. But then again, that use case is.....odd and unlikely.
  18. The cost should be added to the container, so when you recover the craft you won't see recovery information for the parts in the container but the container should itself refund you more. Is that not the case?
  19. Maybe that's the craft's true terminal velocity. It probably isn't but haven't given us any information that would help us to rule that out. Help us to help you.
  20. FAR mechanics are pretty much 100% different this time around. However, I believe trajectories was pretty much just asking FAR "What's the drag of this craft at this AoA at this speed at this altitude?" and that request shouldn't have changed much.
  21. "Isn't very stupid" and "more stupid" are so subjective. I would suggest using a "less stupid" Kerbal, and since you got some to Minmus have hem return and get some experience.
  22. You sure you have complete coverage, not missing the poles? What is your inclination?
  23. Get Procedural Parts, it does exactly this. I also just added a waisted profile exactly for this type of use.
