Because everyone's posting Delta IV tax, here's a Delta IV Heavy analog. Made out all but two BDB parts. Only non-BDB parts are the stock vernier thrusters and the probe core. Restock is install, so the probe uses that model. Regor A/F-1A engines used in place of RS-68. Tweakscale was used to make the DCSS bigger. (For those wondering why the sceenshot is so large, I play fullscreen on a ultrawide.)

I don't mean as an in-game simulator, I mean as in you have access to it for the game. Sandbox mode only, of course, but still, I would like a way to land a craft at Eve and test it out for possibly a career or progression mode mission. Lots of people use Sandbox to test craft files, and you can send a craft to eve, but it has to be in orbit.

There's actually more realism in KSP than you think. It uses relatively real physics, barring a few things here and there of course. The planets are based off real planets. Kerbin is an analog of Earth. Kerbin may be smaller than Earth, but it feels and acts mostly like Earth would. Making the planet smaller would make it less realistic, even more so than it already is. And you can't change how gravity works. It would break the game, not literally, but metaphorically. Having a planet that's the size of 5km with 1G of gravity? That's utterly ridiculous. People don't want tiny planets, they want medium to large planets with maybe a dwarf planet sprinkled in here or there. They want to explore every square kilometer of a planet before moving on to another one. Tiny planets = boring fast. Medium to large size planets = fun for years! Want to know why? Because you can't explore all of a planet in hours! I mean, you could land in many spots around a planet and only explore 0.5% of it within weeks. Exploring is fun! Plus, easter eggs makes it more fun! They could have hidden away a statue of Opportunity on Duna, and on a regular sized KSP planet, it would takes days to weeks to find it. On a tiny planet, it would just take hours. People don't want easter eggs to be easy, they want them to be hard to find so they get a sense of satisfaction. On top of exploring, you can get some amazing shots with big planets. People like cinematic shots or beautiful shots. You can't get that with Voxel Maps because the textures are always either pixelated or are very very simple. With height map, you can make textures of any quality you want, and it makes for gorgeous shots. Look at anyone's screen shot of planets, and most of them are really good, because the planet has realistic textures. Voxel maps will ruin that for people, and thus ruin KSP for a lot of people.

So, I've seen a little talk about weather being added into KSP. I don't really know how I feel about this. On one hand, weather would be a nice challenge to over come. On the other hand, the challenge might not be what some people want. I'm in both categories. So, my idea is that they should have two separate weather systems. Physical weather and cosmetic weather. Physical weather: Wind can vere a rocket off course, lightning can strike a rocket and disable the HUD for a couple of seconds, etc. Cosmetic weather: Dust, snow, sand, ice, etc can form on the rocket during respective storms.

NPC base, buildings, abandoned rockets and shop.

Ksp is not a survival RPG space adventure game. -
Will ksp2 be modable to at least the same extend of ksp?
GoldForest replied to paul23's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Iirc, modding will be handled the same way. You drop in or drop out mods you want. Or someone will make CKAN 2. -
NPC base, buildings, abandoned rockets and shop.
GoldForest replied to cgw's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Shops will have no point in KSP 2. KSP 2 is not an RPG space adventure game anyway. Abandoned space ships would actually be interesting, but stealing their parts? There's no point to that. Also, you cant really compare KSP or KSP 2 to games like No Man's Sky, Astroneer, etc. There is not a single game that is like KSP or KSP 2, except for simple rockets. Ksp is a very unique space game about building rockets and exploring space in the lego rocket you built. KSP 1 and 2 are space simulation games, not space rpg adventures. -
Okay, but I do not want to sit through a loading screen every time I want to switch camera views. Do you?
-
People want real sized planets. They dont want a boulder, they want a planet. The bigger the planet the more exploration they can do, discover new nook and crannies. Because a game cant use both. It has to use one or the other. You cant switch them in cockpit view, you cant switch them at any point.
-
No, it can't, because you cant use both maps at the same time. And I mean in the same game. It's either height map or voxel map, not switchable or both.
-
Ksp planets already have a set size. Voxel maps aren't worth it, very few people really want it, and it's a resource hog. It's just not viable.

They are going to allow even MORE moddability. -
And colonization

Well, phyx is implemented. It runs inside the DX code I believe, or at least the unity 2019 code. The problem is ksp can't use phyx. Apparently phyx can't keep up with all the updates

Unity upgrades happen all the time to games. KSP 1 has gone through 3 to 5 versions of unity. In fact 1.8.0 brings another one. Unity 2019.2 which is just behind the latest unity release of unity 2019.3. With 2019.2 also comes DX11, since DX9 is no longer supported by unity. I suspect KSP 2 will use 11 or 12 as well.

On a separate note, I would like the cheat menu to get stock hyper edit. I want to be able to set my craft on another planet without having to fly there and plant a VAB. I also would like to set any height. If I have a plane, I want to be able to drop it into a planet at 20Km so I can instantly have it flying.

Why does everyone nark on Squad for the timeliness of KSP on consoles? It's not their fault. They out-sourced it to console developers. Blame those guys, not Squad. Squad has no hand whatsoever in the console version. It takes time to port a game to console, and there's a month long to several month long process after they've optimized it of getting it through Sony's and Microsoft's validation process. If they don't like anything, they send it back and tell them to fix it or change it. See above reply. Totally agree with more customization. Always a good thing. We've already gotten confirmation on the ability to paint rockets and swap kerbal's hair, but more is better in this case, though, we still don't know even a percentage of the game, so we'll have to wait and see what they already have. Though, I doubt they'll have full RGB control for the painting of rockets. And I doubt it's free hand paint and more like sticker painting... I hope not though. They've said the Kerbals are more expressive. They'll flail arms and even pass out, possibly even barf. We also got confirmation that they will scream and freak out. Weather - I think they said they wouldn't put weather into the game other than clouds. Though, I wouldn't be against weather, as long as its optional of course. Seasons - Comes with weather, so sure. Solar events - You want a mass solar ejection? What are you mad?! … Mmm, don't know how I feel about this. I'm on the no life support ban wagon, so yeah, no life support, but if it's optional it's not a problem, obviously. Agreed, the 1.7 addition of the orbit read out/maneuver node menu was nice. That should be added in KSP 2. I think the PC should be left out. Xbox and PS4 should have it, yes, but PC should be in there, in my opinion. If the PC was added into the trifecta, a PC joining a Xbox server would be bogged down by said Xbox, since the server might be local. If there's official servers, arlight fine, go ahead, but if it's local servers only? No, PC should not be included in the cross-play. DLC solar systems would definitely be nice. Though, planet modders will probably go crazy with the new moddability that Star Theory might just pluck the more popular ones up and go, "Hey, can we make your mod official?" This is semi-confirmed with Nate Thompsons answer of alien life. He said, "Get out there and explore." Star Theory has stated they want this, they want their game to last ten years+

KSP 2 Multiplayer Discussion Thread
GoldForest replied to Johnster_Space_Program's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
KSP 2 will be optimized for Xbox and PlayStation. As for cross play, there probably won't be cross play between PC and Xbox or PC and PS4. Xbox and PS4 crossplay, maybe. But PC will remain out of the loop more than likely.- 1,629 replies

If you're not going to play it because it doesn't have voxel terraforming, that's fine. You do you. There's plenty of space voxel games out there like Space Engineers.
