KSP 2 Multiplayer Discussion Thread
GoldForest replied to Johnster_Space_Program's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Sounds like they have a solution for that, as he said he would release multiplayer info at a later date. So we may get a whole KSP loading based on the multiplayer.- 1,629 replies

True, but you can mod aspects of gameplay to make it better for you.
-
You can technically remove stock parts too, just make sure to save them in a backup folder
-
I agree. Mods will fix any problems people have with the game. And if they don't like a certain engine, they could just not use it. Ignore it. Or make a MM file to make it more realistic for them. But I for one will like a super fast super high ISP engine if the solar systems are light years away, which they sound like they are. But I'll have no problem if I use 9 Daedaluses. 1 Daedalus can reach 12% of C in 4 years. I plan to reach 99% of C in less

KSP 2 Multiplayer Discussion Thread
GoldForest replied to Johnster_Space_Program's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
https://www.videogameschronicle.com/features/interviews/an-in-depth-conversation-with-the-creator-of-ksp2/ Is it just me, or does that sound like multiplayer won't be in the game at launch? Sounds to me like they will get the core code down for Multiplayer, then release Multiplayer later so that they can release the game in March. I'm honestly okay with this. Multiplayer is a big thing that's drawing me in, but I'd be willing to wait and get a singleplayer only game in march, then an update for multiplayer down the road.- 1,629 replies

KSP2 Flight UI from Developer Story Trailer
GoldForest replied to PistonMiner's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
I kind of like the no background of the UI, but I can see that getting in the way of seeing some things. Maybe a light opacity to the elements would fix that. -
In the gameplay video, Jeb is reacting to the plane spinning, though it's weird that the light source doesn't match the spin... Anyway, his head tilts with the turn, so animation wise, it is there.
-
I have a gaming chair that leans all the way back nearly flat with the ground, and I have the Valve Index. Whoo boy. The realism. Might get my brother to shake the chair during launch XD
-
If you watch the KSP 2 Gameplay footage when it shows Jeb inside the plane, the plane is clearly spinning and his head is tilting out of the turn. Even the thumbnail shows his head tilting, so we do know G-force reactions are animated.

Craft structure: still a tree or not?
GoldForest replied to Psycho_zs's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Multi-docking is something the KSP community has wanted for a long time now, since a lot of people like to make multi-docked structures. It's not outside the realm of possibility that they would add the ability in, either at launch or in a future update. -
How will interstellar travel work?

YES! Star Theory! Do this! -
How will interstellar travel work?
GoldForest replied to M_Rat13's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
In order for there to be a galactic SOI, there would need to be a black hole in the game. -
Obviously we're going to create new terms, short hands, and nicknames for KSP 2, so let's come up with some and see if we agree on any. (This is merely just for fun, but if we do come up with or like similar terms, then hey, I don't see why they can't be official community terms, short hands, or nicknames) Rask and Rusk - The Twins, Death Twins, The Twins that started an argument about N-body in KSP 2 , R&R or RnR, Death Spiral, Rura (Rue-Raw) Thrusting while time warping - Thrust warping KSC 2 - The Rocks, The Islands, The Swamp Project Daedalus - Blasting Fusion Giant (BFG) 9000, Prodae Orion Drive - Keep Away From Danny2462, Death and Destruction, Who Thought This Was A Good Idea Colonies - Home Away From Home, Kerbal Factories Space Station Colonies - Kerbal Factory in Space The Two Runways - Two-lane

So a guesstimate of When in 2020 KSP will come out
GoldForest replied to Redneck's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
They've been working on the game for 2 years. That Pre-alpha footage might have been made 6 months ago -
How will interstellar travel work?
GoldForest replied to M_Rat13's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
True, that's why we're getting thrust warping (Time warp but allowing engines to continue to operate) -
Well, it's a fusion engine, which means it probably needs H-3 or even H-4 fuel, which would only be minable from gas Giants. It's probably a late or even end game item, so if it is OP, probably OP for a reason. The solar systems are about 1 to 2 light years away from each other IIRC. A high output long lasting engine like you're saying would be great for those Journeys. It would be faster than Daedalus which would get you to 12% of C in maybe 3 to 4 months (Note: Daedalus was designed to get to 12% of C in 4 years IRL, but because KSP has a sized down system, I'm guestimating 3 to 4 months)? If you could get up to 12% of C in 1 month, it would seriously cut down travel time.

I wouldn't think the Epstein drive is magic tech as Fusion reactors are being made as we speak and all of them use magnetic confinement to keep the plasma and radiation within the structure. The toroidal ring fusion reactor uses magnets to keep the plasma and radiation spinning in circles around the chamber. The, IIRC, German fusion reactor uses lasers to create a fusion, and I believe they are also using magnets to keep the plasma from touching the chamber walls. Fusion reactors exist today, Britain has been doing tests of their fusion reactor and managed to take their plasma up to 1000 degrees K sometime last year. They plan to go for 10,000 K this year or the next and then 100,000 K. If they can contain 1,000 K heat with magnets, I don't think it's too far fetched to use the same concept with the epstein drive. Edit: Apparently they have gone all the way up to 15 million Celsius. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-5808167/UKs-latest-nuclear-fusion-reactor-hits-key-15-million-C-milestone.html So yeah, Magnetic containment works. Epstein drive is not magic tech.

How will interstellar travel work?
GoldForest replied to M_Rat13's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
It would still help. You also have to remember, we're getting Daedalus, which in IRL could reach 7.5% of C after 2 years, then 12% of C after another 2. IIRC the devs said the solar systems are about 1 to 2 either solar years or light years apart from each other. With this in mind, we can assume that Daedalus would be balanced accordingly. So, and I'm just guessing too lazy to figure out real math right now, that would be about... 12% of C after... 3 to 4 months, with continual thrust mind you, if they went with light years. Solar years I would imagine we would get up to 12% after a month or two. -
How will interstellar travel work?
GoldForest replied to M_Rat13's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
There's a rumor that warp thrusting( Time warp while engine is on) will be allowed for certain engines. Again, just a rumor. Although, a faster way to gain speed would be to set up multiple sling shots. Heck, if you can survive Jool's atmosphere, Jool can kick your craft out pretty far. I would imagine that would be the easiest way to get Interstellar. Slingshot using Jool, once in Jool's atmosphere turn on your engines to lose as little speed as possible, and then go out into interstellar space. Of course, if you want to play it save, slingshot using Jool, but just skim the atmosphere. At periapsis, start burning to gain more speed. The closer to Jool you get the faster and farther you'll go. -
Ah, interesting.

Mmm, do they close their eyes? Or do they just go ragdoll and stare at the ground as they contemplate their existence?
