Feature or DLC Request: Red Kerbals & Military Division
GoldForest replied to Abyss's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
Linux is right, Kerbal Space Program was never meant to be violent. It is a scientific learning game. Besides, BD Armory still exists and will get ported over to KSP 2 in time. -
I think the lack of information is due to the fact that Star Theory CAN"T release information. Most if not all of them are probably at Gamescon, or off doing other business, like talking with NASA scientists or talking with Squad. I feel like come next week we might be getting hints dropped on the forum. Of course, they might also be waiting for the KSP 2 section of the forums to get up and running. I read somewhere that KSP 2 would be getting it's very own section come an upgrade to the forums. Honestly, both options are highly plausible. When do you guys think information will start dropping?

But it's just alpha footage... I'm not sorry. But in all seriousness, KSP 1's unstability comes from lack of deep code fixing. The code is unstable and it's a wonder the game works as well as it does. KSP 2 will have hard code fixed by launch. Stability should be at least 5 times that of KSP 1's, or more. I'd imagine that space craft will be able to be upwards of a 1000+ parts now. Although, you might get some frame loss, but no where near KSP 1 where 1000 part craft meant 1 FPS.

They have stated the KSC is in the same location, roughly, as that of the KSP 1 KSC. I for one am actually okay with the marshy/lake like area. Actually, thinking about it, it's more like a bay. Like San Francisco Bay. Anyway, I'm fine with the ponds, lakes, rivers, etc all around the base. Makes getting to the water faster for boats and submarines.

List of new propulsion systems
GoldForest replied to bartekkru99's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
First era - Chemical rockets Second era - Fission engines - Orion Drive as well as Nuclear propulsion engines Third Era - Fusion Engines and Magnetic Engines Fourth Era - Project Daedalus This is how I see it going. -
Star Theory is confident that they can get the game done in the 7 months that they have. And according to Lu K. they've been working on it since August of 2017. 2 years and 7 months, at time of launch, is a long enough time for them to get a polished game out to us. No other area will suffer due to multiplayer being in the game.
-
So someone at Squad or Star Theory told you when they started KSP?
-
The main four are probably immortal, but all other kerbals have a time limit.
-
Where did you find this information?
-
We don't know for sure. That's speculation. There's no confirmation or denial of when they started.
-
Oh, okay. Yeah, I'm sure they took gameplay mechanics they wanted from KSP 1, as well as expanded them. It would save time, but not much. Still have to get those mechanics to work the way they intend.

We're not talking about redoing ideas or gameplay though, we're talking about the code itself.

List of new propulsion systems

That's why it would be end end game. The last parts you unlock, and it would have a high price. Also, it's not impossible, we can make anti-matter right now. The process is just time and energy intensive. We would need arrays of fusion reactors to sustain a anti-matter factory. To make the engine, it would basically be using Project Daedalus' engine, but instead of fusion fuel and lasers, we just use an anti-matter explosion. -
Most speculation is after Take-Two got the rights to KSP. (Between 2016 to 2017) The evidence we have is that it's been at least a year, as Steam page activity pre-dates to November 2018.

Rask and Rusk are obviously causing each other to start to crumble apart. My question is, will they implement environmental hazards like magma/lava, earthquakes, and radiation for hard mode or have the option to turn it on? ANd if that's the case, that brings me to my second thought, rovers. In the trailer we see a heat shield get ditched by a casing, and it clear has a rover inside, possibly with a skycrane configuration. Is this rover reentry pod going to be stock? And we getting dedicated rover parts in KSP 2? Like we (Sort of) got in KSP 1's Breaking Ground update? If we are getting rover parts, that would be awesome to tackle hazardous environments with. Rask and Rusk might need robotic rovers, and possibly more planets.

Yeah, but... they can still add it into game. Maybe a quest to make 1000 grams of anti-matter could unlock anti-matter engines, tanks, etc. -
Unless they have a second vehicle coming to pick them up... and I'm not talking about Jeb breaking the landing craft. I mean, they have no way to get back to Kerbin, even if they reach Kerbin again. I saw no reentry pod, no heatshield, nothing that would insinuate that they can go home. And I know, "It's just a trailer." I nick pick some times. But, yeah, Jeb and Val are stuck not only on the Mun, but they will also be stuck in space. Kerbals, never thinking ahead right?

Well, I understand that you can learn from the old code, and I did say they might use a minute portion of the old code, maybe update or rewrite, so it's more streamline, it even, but I imagine that at least 75% to 90%, somewhere closer to the 90%, of the code is written from scratch, since they want KSP 2 to do things that KSP 1 can't. Why else would they say "We're building KSP 2 from the ground up," if not to insinuate that they are rewriting the code almost entirely?
-
They have stated that the whole game is built from the ground up. They aren't reusing old code, or rewriting the old code. They are coding it themselves. Of course that's not to say they won't use the same code in some minute areas, but they did state from the ground up quite clearly.

Probably liquid nitrogen or helium cooling system as I believe that is a magnetic plasma engine.
