  1. I've seen a lot of people bashing unity, but unity is a great game engine. Some of the games made with it include Cuphead, Cities Skyline, and even Rick and Morty VR. I think they associate the poor performance with unity and not the graphics API. There is a difference. It's the graphics API that causes the poor performance. DX9 is old. Really old now. 2002 it came out and support dropped around 2007 iirc. 12 years. That's a long time. People are suggesting there will be the same performance or worse with KSP2 and I can't bring myself to believe that, not unless they dont upgrade from DX9, which I feel they have. If they are using DX11, DX12, or even DX11 with DX12 upgrades, performance will shoot up I would imagine nearly 4 to 10 times. The same could be said for AMD's Vulken API. I wish people would see that unity isn't a bad engine. It isn't the problem. If you want to see what Unity can do, YouTube the unity tech demo and see how powerful this little game engine is. KSP 1 can't get anymore performance not because of unity, but because of DX9. KSP 2 can get higher performance with DX11, DX12, DX11+12 or Vulken. Sorry for the rant, but I felt the need to address this issue. Any criticism or comments are fully welcome.
  2. The trailer tells you "Not actual gameplay footage." Besides, you should know trailers never look like the game.
  3. They were very very tight lipped about it.
  4. Squad has been getting into the habit of telling people later and later. I think it's to combat all the requests for information, as when they announce something, nowadays they usually give out information within a week or two which calms people down. Mmmm, March isn't a good time to release in 2020. Final Fantasy VII remake Watch Dogs 3 and Animal crossing all release in March. I'd say go for April or May. Probably May, that way you only have to combat with Marvel's Avenger game. Cyberpunk 2077 is release in April, might be tough releasing along side that one.
  5. So April or May, which are spring, don't know why I said summer.
  6. I think people forget what amazing stuff you can do with Unity. Just look at the Unity project movie. As for performance, I've seen games squeeze a lot of performance out of Unity, but I think it comes down to the graphics API. DX9 is old and doesn't really do well on older machines without some work arounds. DX11 or 12, or even the new DX11 with 12 upgrades would boost performance greatly. Heck, even Vulken would be a massive upgrade.
  7. Well, we don't know how long they've been making the game. And they have said they rebuilt KSP from the ground up. So I doubt they're using old assets.
  8. My first thought when I heard them talk about methane lake was resource gathering for new engines, kind of like Space X's Raptor engine. Then I got a thought of maybe they're adding a survival mode where we need oxygen, water, food, pods for waste, etc.
  9. Well, they're using unity. Which can handle a lot. It's the Graphics API we should all be worried about. I hope Star Theory is using DX11/12/11+12 or at least Vulken, and not DX9 which isn't even supported by Mircosoft anymore iirc.
  10. I mean they haven't answered. In fact, they seem to be tight lipped about everything, as usual. We'll have to wait for the KSP Loading releases to learn anything.
  11. Modding is still going to be apart of KSP2.
  12. To me, it doesn't look photoshopped. The graphics are totally different imo. How are you getting on average 20 fps btw? I have no problems getting above 60. I will agree, it looks like they took mods people wanted and just slapped them into KSP and are working to make them all compatiable and work with each other, but some of the parts look like nothing the modding community has ever done, at least, not to the scale that Star Theory is doing. The Orion Drive? Project Daedalus? I've seen mods do this before, but they died off quickly, or they had problems that couldn't be fixed. But you have to remember, this is still really early. They have a half a year to a year to bring us gameplay footage and to tweak what they feel needs to be tweaked. They said sometime in 2020, so I can only assume they have 3 launch dates to shoot for. The original release date of KSP: June 11th. The summer time release date for games: April something or May something (When kids are getting out of school) Or the holiday release date: November something. All three dates are far away. Now, the trailer is obviously not going to show game assets, so don't take the cinematic trailer as what the parts will look like. All in all, just wait and see. That's all any of us can do, and you can get on the hype train and still have your worries. I'm sure 85% of the hype train people are worried and have their concerns, they're just not voicing them. Also, 2K? Wrong company. 2K is EA's company. Squad is owned by PD who are Take-Two. One last thing. The game engine is still unity, but the graphics API might have changed from DX9. I'm assuming they've gone with Vulken or DX12/DX11 with some DX12. And that's where the real performance lies. Unity is a great game engine and it can do a LOT, but if the Graphics API isn't up to the task, then Unity can't do a lot. DX11 or 12 or even Vulken will improve performance almost ten fold imo.
  13. Well, all the old planets are there, so it's bound to look like KSP1, in fact, Duna and all the other planets are getting a face lift, so the KSP1 Duna might be upgrading to KSP2 graphics.
  14. I saw no KSP1 assets in the Trailer, nor do I see any KSP1 assets in the screenshots, except maybe Kerbin, which does actually have clouds if you enlarge the screen shot.
  15. Actually, there ARE clouds in the screen shot. Look at the ocean.
  16. Also, here's the Epic exclusive denial evidence, Though, like I said, we've heard this before so. (Incase anyone is wondering what the picture is, a salt mine)
  17. Never thought about it that way, but you are right.
  18. Four companies, one game. Math does not compute.
  19. It's Take-Two. Nuff said. Though, Star Theory claims to be an independent game dev studio... then again, Private Division is the publisher...
  20. Like I said, we've heard the "We're not going exclusive" argument before, so I'm adamant to trust the rumors.
  21. Except their not. Project Division (Take-Two), who now owns Squad, so PD owns the license and rights to KSP, probably was approached by Star Theory and okayed the development of KSP2. Now, Squad is talking with Star Theory, but Squad I assume is just there for talks and creative criticism. So Star Theory is not a rivaling company. If anything, they're a ally company. True, but thinking about it, it's probably so that everyone gets a cut of the money. Take-two, Squad and Star Theory. Squad is firmly saying that KSP2 will NOT be Epic Exclusive. Of course, we've heard that argument before.
  22. Squad isn't the one setting the price. It's Project Division more than likely. So don't blame Squad. Also, KSP2 is going to have a lot more than KSP1, new parts, new solar systems, new everything. It's not just a rehash. Now, I agree, 60 bucks is a little much, especially for an indy game, but that's no reason to go bad mouthing Squad, who for all terms and purposes, are not responsible for KSP2. If you want to complain, to talk to Take-Two or Star Theory or Project Division, the REAL reasons the price is 60 bucks. Complaining to Squad will do nothing. They could edit out lens flares in editing, or heck, most movies are shot on green screen these days, at least sci-fi ones. Lens flare is added in during editing. It can be stopped, but it looks good, so Hollywood keeps doing it.
  23. Because lens flares can look really good, and they can make a scene look like a movie. Some people like cinematic shots, and lens flares are in a lot of cinematic shots. But like you said, you can probably disable it, as a lot of games do allow that.
