1. Added mass can shift center of mass which needs more parts to balance which adds more MASS. Which costs more but it would seem dear op you glossed by the costs incurred by weight. To the other guy saying my station is a monster that shouldnt be 1 launch capable why the hate? Why must i be limited or even WHACKJOB be limited in big things because you think it shouldnt be possible.
-
look, adding mass, even w/out a physics calculation for THAT part, STILL increases the PHYSICS CALCULATIONS for the ENTIRE VESSEL. Lets say, you make say STRUTS weigh .1 tons, ladders weigh say half a ton for the largest one, but have NO physics for those parts. You have STILL upped the weight of the vessel, which means you need MORE DV to lift it to orbit, to the mun or eeloo or where ever. THAT is going to FORCE physics calculations to deal with the now added mass of fuel, additional boosters, additional motors and so on. It is a LOSE LOSE proposition, it really is. Let me show you an example of what I mean. Here is my Kerbal Orbital Sciences Complex <a FULL space station sitting on the launch pad in picture one> NOW, here it is, shortly after reaching orbital position: I had JUST decoupled the station from the lift BRACING ONLY. Tell me oh kind OP what do you see? thats right, about 100+ STRUTS!! that thing weighed 1402.670 TONS on the pad and contained 486 parts, and I launched it with ALL tanks on it EMPTY save for the RCS tanks, because quite frankly how else was I going to turn it in space? As it sits in orbit, it is 93.44 TONS and now has only 176 parts. NOW, imagine if, things were as you suggest... HOW much heavier is that station on the pad? Well, considering it had about 100 struts on the station and launcher, id wager a LOT heavier. Lets boil it down more. Lets say, for instance, in real life, you want to punt something to LEO for some reason, and lets say, you want to use the famed Atlas V: Do you know the cost per POUND to punt an object into just LOW EARTH ORBIT <at LEAST 99 MILES UP, to 2,000 MILES UP>? About 13 THOUSAND DOLLARS US. PER. POUND LIFTED. Using the ATLAS V. SO, using our Atlas V as a bench mark, lets see what the price would have been for my station JUST to punt it to orbit. JUST THE STATION as a payload: $2,463,452,160. THATS just to punt 93.44 TONS OF STATION into LEO of 99 MILES if the ATLAS V could carry it. That is its weight with MASS LESS PARTS. BTW, that COST? It is PAYLOAD ONLY, no fuel, no rocket motor, no anything ATLAS V. JUST PURE STATION, I shudder to think on the cost of the rocket ITSELF or the FUEL EVEN. Now, imagine adding weight to things like ladders, or lights or anything else NOT mass enabled. Imagine the cost, no REALLY THINK ABOUT IT. COSTS WILL BE A THING IN THIS GAME. IF they do it where it costs us PER POUND LIFTED, this will KILL many players careers off and drive them back into sandbox to avoid it. Which will kill off Career mode in a bad way. Things are FINE the way they are with massed objects having mass and mass free objects being virtually weightless. Again, even if the suggested new mass having objects have NO PHYSICS everything ELSE DOES, and that MASS adds UP.

Perfectly balanced probe core chair
AlamoVampire replied to Himynameisjake's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
idk what happened to it last night, but, it wasnt resolving, today it is... and your right, its dark as night...bad pun lol -
thats the other thing that is a problem if things that are currently massless become mass enabled. How many of you would suddenly need USELESS ladders on the exact other side of the vessel now? how many more parts would you need to add, clogging up processing power that will induce lag in some players? no, things that carry now mass now NEED TO REMAIN SUCH.

[1.0.2] NovaPunch 2.09. - May 6th - 1.0 Compatibility Update
AlamoVampire replied to Tiberion's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Tiberion, I myself am waiting for .24 before I upgrade my chosen mods, your Novapunch pack being one of my main go to mods for parts Well, it that, and I have multiple vessels I need to double check to see if the removed parts you deleted from the pack breaks anything lol. -
i for one think that some parts SHOULD be "massless." Why? Well, look at it like this, some parts are absolutely tiny, does it make sense to make them add any appreciable weight to the vessel? not really. I could see it becoming an issue if say you made STRUTS weight something, seeing as we still need to strut stuff and in some peoples case <looking at mr whackjob and myself> we tend to go on the heavy side with them, but by and large, a blanket no more massless parts is a bad idea to me as it COULD force needless part duplication just to maintain vehicle stability during flight or ground ops. YES, HUSH, I KNOW its been said before, but, it should be repeated. lol

"unable to resolve the server's DNS address" in otherwords, its refusing to show picures -
Jool and some of her moons Yes there IS a third moon, far right side almost off picture lol

What was your closest call in terms of delta-V?
AlamoVampire replied to pauldbk99's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The closest ive come in terms of DV? Well, it just happened on a test mission to Jool in Sandbox, I was at 98 or so units of liquid fuel after performing my final burn for descent INTO Jool's atmosphere! take a look! -
I did a Jool Atmospheric Exploration Mission. <Well, it was a test for application to Career mode while in Sandbox> Just before the thing detonated in the atmosphere at the -250 point, my Atmospheric gauge read 14 atmospheres of pressure!!!
-
placing my faith in you sir. i just downloaded 2.2.1, heres hoping lol. yea, still very very skittish, cant be helped lol
-
not to sound untrusting, cuz ive seen you help others, so, i will be plain. is it 100% safe to download from curseforge then? Look, to be even more plain, I am new baby animal skittish of anything with "curse" affiliation, and need some serious reassurance that I wont end up watching my computer melt down from some virus from trying to get a mod to play a game i enjoy.
-
Like I said, I want to avoid Curse if at all possible. I am not interested in dev builds, but the actual genuine article of which again, dev builds are not. I had a major issue with curse.com in the past that nearly cost me a computer <mostly out of pure frustration with a virus I could not get rid of until a friend bailed me out> when I nearly smashed it to death, and unless a site is 100% swear on the bible under oath in court under penalty of perjury penalty of life in prison no parole safe, i a do my utmost to avoid it. does this make me crazy? probably. paranoid? absolutely. SO... again, any place for the genuine 2.2.1 that ISNT curse.com or some random offshoot site?
-
Is there some place I can find and download the most current mechjeb that is NOT, IS NOT CURSE.COM??? I have had issues with that site in the past and would prefer to avoid that site if at all possible. That 1 mod will make or BREAK my ability to play this game. Look, I am not here to be told I suck by my reliance on that mod, I am here trying to find its location OTHER than curse.com, so, I beg, please help.

Moss your rude response is beyond uncalled for. There is absolutely ZERO need to reply to this thread solely to be an unmitigated trogladite. To the rest: with the above unpleasntness done im glad im not the only one to get this glitch. Upshot is 1 its in a safe parking orbit and 2 i can retry for a sweet aerobreak near jool
-
I am beyond furious to the point I could CRY. I was working a mission to Jool. An atmospheric probe to do probe things at Jool. Here it is nearing a deceleration burn to take it in even closer to Jool before making a deorbit burn into the atmosphere... at least that was the plan when this was taken. SO, prior to this picture, I knew something was wrong, my quick save button had died on me. I did have a node set up for an aerobreak at Laythe I think it was Laythe, anyway, the aerobreak would have slowed me down into a tight orbit at Jool, hey free DV is free DV right? So, I went to quick save when I had that awesome node, and nothing. I decided that something was amiss, so, I tweaked my node to avoid the aerobreak, and ended up in the orbit that picture was taken in. I decide, okay, this is risky as all heck, but, lets roll. Little did I know that this silent kraken was slowly eating functions in my game. The final blow came during deceleration into a tight Jool orbit. I noticed my rocket suddenly throttle down <yes I use mechjeb> and went to check my fuel status, and all values went to 0. I tried to go to map mode, and the ship vanished from screen, leaving me an edge on map view of the Jool system. i tried to go back into "normal' view and BAM game lock up. I alt F4d out of the game, reloaded and to my abject horror the game had NOT ONCE AUTOSAVED after reaching ORBIT OF KERBIN!! I was in orbit of KERBIN. a FULL YEAR AND CHANGE of game time LOST to this new silent kraken. I reloaded the game, like I said, and all functions had returned, auto-save, quick save, all working again, but, I was in parking orbit at Kerbin

okay, now that i am at my computer, this is the thread I started back in december of last year. Like I said before, those numbers on the top, are NORAD Tracking Identification numbers assigned to the related objects. The ISS number is still valid and active as the module that it is assigned too is obviously still in orbit.

corvustech sounds like that was a sad complication but an entertainingly challenging one as well! -
Difficulty options
AlamoVampire replied to StrandedonEarth's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
the way things are, are, well, fine. At some point, things like DRE and Life Support <i think> probably will become standard non mod added features <i hope> and should not be able to be turned off. Cost? That should crop up in .24 iirc. The game can already be made as hard as you like or as EASY as you like. Dont get into the wires and short out the controls before we see what Squad does shall we? -
I cant find my thread from my phone but some months ago i pointed out the numbers are norad tracking numbers for mir and iss each above the names

GO SPURS GO! Drive for 5 completed. My congrats goes to not only the players of the San Antonio Spurs but to Coach Pop as well.

Time warp rotation issue
AlamoVampire replied to horndgmium's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
not to sound mean, but, why is this even an issue anyway? i mean does it really matter if someone uses time warp in this manner? If you want to use TW in the manner you are suggesting thats great, but why try to force that on the rest of us? -
I ban thee above me for banning a person. I ban thee below for trying to ban me!
-
banned for using the schwartz

I just think that if we are going to polish things down the road, this is something that should be polished. Is it game breaking to NOT have the exhaust port? no. is it nice to see it on models that DO have it? yes. Would it be nice to see it across the board? yes.
