  1. Not sure, I can do some testing to find out. But I think the whole bell of it needs to be clear. Unlike the Aerospike which can be pretty much 75% obscured and it still not affect anything around it.
  2. Last I checked, in the last flight sim I played, FreeFalcon 5.0, a F-16 Falcons max frame G load was less than 12Gs. Anything more and your wings will snap off. I know in real life its a bit higher than that, but only a bit. And in KSP, with DRE if you pull 12gs and your craft is put together with spit and gum, it will fly apart like a bad pinata at a south Texas middle school.
  3. I know that using FAR it really doesn't matter what mod parts I use from the B9 pack I am lucky to break mach 4 while below 36km. And I personally don't break my 3:1 intake to jet ratio.
  4. In imageshack if you right click on the image in your gallery and select "Share" it will give you the forum code to post it. Or you can add There is a pic of your craft, your last one I believe.
  5. They are that. But I have found a use for Aerospikes. They end up being my VTOL boosters and that is it. Even then they are often to heavy to be really decent, they barely manage better than a 1.16:1 thrust to weight ratio. But the LV-T45s aren't bad, they have great thrust to weight ratio but are SO LONG, so you have to mount them a bit higher up. This has to side affects one good one bad. One it keeps the center of mass near in line with the middle of the aircraft, so no need to tweak your fuel loads to balance it out. But on the other hand, they often look quite ugly when done that way.
  6. Not really. If you build a rocket right it wont wobble or be unstable as hell.
  7. Air breathing engines only work on Laythe and Kerbin, but you can use Kethane turbines on Duna if need be, I haven't tested them out yet so I am not sure about the viability of them. With the VSO-3 I have 2 airbreathers for every one rocket engine. But it still has a higher than 2:1 thrust to weight ratio on Duna. Eve is the only world I don't think the VSO-3 won't work on. But the SVO-9A only has rocket engines for its VTOL engines. On Kerbin it has a 1.01:1 thrust to weight ratio. Which is more than enough once you get to lower gravity worlds like Duna. Almost all of my VTOL SSTOs use rockets for the VTOL engines, it gives a faster response when you need to quickly change something but the trade off is they are often heavier, and use considerably more fuel. Most of my VTOLs in the SVO line use 10-20% of their fuel load on take off. The SVO-9A is the most efficient only using 9-10%. And with each generation they get better.
  8. It depends on the job they are designed to do. Most of them the wings are actually pretty much standard sized. Not trying to hijack the thread but here are two that are VERY different but work quite well. The VSO-3 which has small'ish wings as they aren't the primary lifting surface. It uses mainly brute force to get to space. And it was inspired by the movie "Elysium" Then there is the SVO-9A which is in route to Duna, but can get to orbit in less than 10 minutes. The wings aren't huge but it differs from craft to craft. It depends on the speed at which they are planned on being flown at, and what kind of mass I am trying to get to orbit.
  9. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/26935-0-20-Ioncross-Crew-Support-Plugin-%28-0-22-dev-build%29 Ioncross-Crew Support. I think this is the closest to what you are asking about currently.
  10. Thats funny, I have only lost 2 craft to re-entry over heat or G issues. But I tend to come in at a pretty shallow angle and speed.
  11. To true. I love SSTOs and I have since perfected them in FAR+DRE, and I am currently working on perfecting my VTOL SSTO planes, got the Spaceplane Vertical Orbiter or SVO for short, line up and running and the latest model of them is headed to Duna to see if I can complete a personal challenge I set for myself. Go to Duna with a SSTO mine kethane then to Dres, mine Kethane then back to Kerbin. Granted the SSTO I have headed to Duna has the aerodynamic properties of a shaved brick. Sometimes FARs L/D and other such information just makes me want to cry when I read them for some of my less streamlined craft.
  12. So out of shear boredom I made one of my favorite aircraft from WWII. The De Havilland Mosquito
  13. I decided to make a passenger plane for exploring Kerbin while I wait for my Duna and Dres launch window to open. Can comfortably seat 8 plus crew of 2. Range is about 2 hours flight time with max fuel at 3km alt.
  14. Updated picture of my Kethane mining operation on the Mun, Mun Base One. From left to right-Lozer Kermin, Elory Kermin and Mission Commander Tom Kermin And an distance shot for scale. Not the biggest operation but it gets the job done.
  15. Not the only one, I messed with it a bit, but went back to my sandbox. I like where they are going but not quite feeling it yet. So far I have starting mining for Kethane on the Mun, been to Minimus and mined there with one of my SVO craft. Since refined my fleet of VTOL space planes. And I have a mission standing by for Duna waiting for their window and a Mission to Dres planed and in the works.
  16. Tested with docking ports same problem. I think its a game issue. Didn't have this issue prior to .22, tested on my .21 install and it works perfectly. Connect plug (docked) pull it in the cargo bay, and it stays on the floor of the cargo bay, not through it. No biggy, I just wont transport vehicles in anything for a while.
  17. I enjoy sandbox with the mods I play. If they implement Ferrams aerospace plugin and B9 I would be ecstatic.
  18. You may have the same issue as I do, a slow hard drive. My stock 7200RPM 500GB HDD is pretty slow in the terms of gaming. It is THE slowest thing on my computer.
  19. Exactly, I love rocket SSTOs, because I suck at building them.
  20. SVO-9A "Goat" after some minor tweaking for stability reasons and crew comfort it finally is in its finalized version. Unfortunately due to the added crew space it lost some VTOL ability. It currently can still take off vertically on Kerbin but at a very slow 1:1 thrust to weight ratio. I am sure if I went back and did some more tweaking I could get it back to where it was but at this point I can't be bothered. Made it to space in 6 minutes 37 seconds.
  21. In .23 what I want, would love and like to see is... 64bit operating system support. I am tired of being limited by the 3.4GB Ram that my computer has more than double of.
  22. Is that a Single Stage To Orbit? If it's an asparagus launch I don't think that qualifies.
  23. Yeah SABRES don't read right in the parts catalog but the correct reading is 2200(ish) while air breathing and 300-325 when in rocket mode. I use them to save weight when I am making a compact SSTO space plane. I always have the SABRES to toggle engine off on one of my action keys after I get into space and switch to a far more efficient engine usually a LV-N.
  24. Welp tried to attach the struts, but it wont let me until the object is docked. And at that point its on the runway at KSC and about a meter below the floor of the cargo bay.
