Perhaps there are even deeper ones. I didn't scan it or anything. Just watched it rotate while orbiting and picked the one that looked very exciting. It's possible the one next to it is even better, I don't know. But Priax really is an exciting place, good work. - - - Updated - - - Kron 4 is in Urlum periapsis, at the outer edge of its ring. Radiation is pretty serious. Main engine on, full throttle.

I'm looking forward to see the the rescue mission. Granted, Eve is half as easy to get away from than before, but still a pain in the ass.

After the transfer of resources, Kerpernicus has been shut down and Bill pushed it away from the ship. The science lab module was detached, And the ship reassembled. A short burn was made to get away from Priax and then to lower the periapsis closer to Urlum. Two of the final upper stage lateral tanks have been spent. Kerty calculated the optimal approach. Urlum will provide an Oberth effect, and Wal will be used as a slingshot so that the resulting Kerbol orbit speed will be decreased. I think it reduced the delta v consumption by some 300 m/s. Falling to Urlum, stand by.

[1.8-1.12] TextureReplacer 4.5.3 (8.2.2022)

Is it possible to use TR for making suits that would actually have a function? -
True. And on Ablate, they die in 27 seconds. Definitively less than 30. Their maximum temperature is 800 K, IIRC. Sadly, one Kerbal can not screw a radiator on another Kerbal.

I hope he has a stash of ice in his capsule.

In reality, it would be possible. It's a long way home. The ship needs to be prepared, junk removed. But first, Bob needs to sample the crater rim. With Urlum's reflection on his visor, and bathed in its radiation, Bob quickly picks up few rocks. Crater rim is staggering 7750 m above its floor, taller than the tallest point above the sea level on Kerbin. Inner Kerbol system is visible in the distance. Time to come back. One jetpack is enough. Bob, Bill and Valentina posing on their last mission. Neutron reflectance instrument is left on the surface.

This is the last mission of the Kron 4 team - landing on Priax. Bob picked up a really deep crater to sample the depths of it, as well as its rim. Kerpernicus lander will also be shielded from most of Urlum's ionizing radiation here. The first to come out was Bill because why not? Priax is kind of like Gilly, only with more darkness, less heat and more ices. This crater floor is a world on its own. It probably has permanently shaded areas and looks cozy, protected. Valentina is deploying a flag. Kerpernicus landed between two rocks, one of which was particularly huge. Good for Bob's research.

Could there be contact binary planets?
lajoswinkler replied to cptdavep's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Could it form? Extremely unlikely, basically impossible. Planetary formation time is longer than such system's hypothetical durability. Anything other than two large boulders (small asteroids) would be so ephemeral and would result in massive geological disturbances. Energy would be shed in friction and eventually you'd get them fragmented, lava covered, then one body, possibly with a temporary ring. -
Rosetta, Philae and Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
lajoswinkler replied to Vicomt's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The outburst has been imaged by Rosetta, not Philae. -
Rosetta, Philae and Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
lajoswinkler replied to Vicomt's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Interactive 3D rendering of the comet. http://sci.esa.int/comet-viewer/ Enjoy. No, the outburst is infinitesimaly weak compared to the kinetic energy needed to do that. To turn a comet like this would mean to disrupt its shape, too. The comet is rotating and Rosetta is orbiting. That's the cause of the different angles. -
[1.0.4] EVA Enhancements - pitch/roll/navball and more!

I hope you'll solve this. I never understood why Squad failed to do it and, later, why it never fixed it. -

Question about three-center-two-electron bond
lajoswinkler replied to JMBuilder's topic in Science & Spaceflight
JMBuilder, are you perhaps implying that there could be something else out there that's "faking" the trihydrogen cation signature? Cause that would be impossible. -
I don't get it.

Where would you land on earth?
lajoswinkler replied to Mad Rocket Scientist's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Mouth of Amazon is a nice choice from a geological, geochemical, botanical, zoological and other points of view. You get access to two different kinds of surface liquids and the life is plentiful.
