  1. “A ton of people” - hmm, that’s not that many. That’s like ten NHL hockey players or twenty 98lb weaklings....
  2. Ok, so, the attempted experimental landing of the center core at an unprecedented distance down range was a failed. But much valuable data was gained. I wonder if they will try to reinforce the problem area or develop a “light” core intended to be expended.
  3. Makes as much sense as anything. I assume that it flying off sideways was an abort mode to try to spare the barge
  4. I guess I’ll have to watch the replays when I get up at 0330 Pacific
  5. As I was going through and saving some more desktop backgrounds, I noticed they've done quite a bit with the cladding on the tower at 39A. Didn't notice that before. *looks closer* Or is it just wrapped in some sort of space-tarp?
  6. Hey, I like that timing, right when I’m usually getting ready for bed. I’ll be dreaming of Merlins firing all over the place.
  7. One got installed backwards....
  8. Probably naming them after classic SF authors would be most fitting: Heinlein, Clarke, Asimov, Niven... But it would probably be referred to as “International Lunar Base,” much as the shuttle orbiters we’re referred to as “OV-101,OV-104” etc Wasnt the ISS (US portion, at least) supposedly named “Space Station Freedom “ ?
  9. It’s easy to throw chicken strips/nuggets and some tater-tot/mexi-fries in the oven. Just set the timer and don’t forget about it. Or even just make hot dogs.... If you’re vegan, I suppose there’s instant oatmeal... It’s easy to throw chicken strips/nuggets and some tater-tot/mexi-fries in the oven. Just set the timer and don’t forget about it. Or even just make hot dogs.... If you’re vegan, I suppose there’s instant oatmeal... But all I have to say for myself is: Hooray for Friday!!
  10. IIRC any (E: Shuttle) abort while still in the atmosphere fell into the “wing and a prayer” category While the Shuttle did not meet the goals of cheap re-use and fast turnaround, it was beautiful machine, a technological tour de force, and the most capable (for LEO ops) vehicle ever put into space. The disasters were more of a human failing than the machine’s fault.
  11. Why, “First Base” of course! It’s a natural! Especially if any baseball fans are involved. Mars and an asteroid base can be Second and Third base, depending which are built first. Earth will always be “Home Plate”
  12. Hmmm... sorta reminds me of... Maybe an instrument ring / sensor ring/ For gathering telemetry on structural performance? Well, while the first Heavy used previously flown F9 boosters (B3? B4?) modified for use on FH Demo, I believe IIRC these boosters were B5's built for Heavy and first flown on the second FH mission. If they had hung on to the core from that mission, it would be flying this mission too.
  13. I read about methane releases from hydrate deposits too. An aircraft flying into a rising methane cloud (which would have had time to mix with air) could easily spark an explosion, knocking the aircraft out of the sky. I believe the phenomenon was also supposed to cause magnetic disturbances of the sort sometimes reported in the mythical triangle. But extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence
  14. Fire wasn't discovered; lightning has been starting fires long before humans came around. Humans figured out how to control it and make their own. /pedant
  15. I don’t think you need a new save. I didn’t see anything near my lander in Minmus, but when I went back to it after patching there were 2-3 objects nearby that I’m sure weren’t there before. The patch notes also have a warning to back up your save due to the tiny chance a new object may spawn under a landed craft.
  16. There are different groups of humans working together towards different goals, but not all humans working towards one goal. In fact, some groups work towards opposite goals, and I’m not talking about sports. So I would not call human civilization a harmonic one
  17. It was also the second flight of that booster, which may also be a source of confusion. Second flight, second landing at VAFB (but not the same booster for both landings)
  18. This came up during my carpool ride home yesterday.... Still stuck in my head....
  19. I suppose it looks a bit like a tree with those arm branches, but why they decided to change the name is a “myst’ry”
  20. Per the “Which engine is more ready” discussion in another thread, there is one thing I don’t recall hearing about the Raptor engine: Has it had a (successful) full mission duration firing yet? With or without the landing cycle burns?
  21. Woke up, fell out of bed Dragged a comb across my head Found my way downstairs and drank a cup And looking up I noticed I was late Found my coat and grabbed my hat Made the bus in seconds flat etc....
