  1. Yeah, sustained Mach 5.5 is impractical if not impossible for passenger flight due to the heating loads
  2. They’re perfectly happy risking their own payload, but will no longer risk the payload of a paying customer.
  3. A variety of this style I like is to use four radial tanks half the size of those, with the landing gear mounted to the radial tanks. This makes it even less tippy. Use the fuel from the radial tanks to land, then blow them off after liftoff once empty. The material experiments can be put on top of two of the radial tanks, collecting the science from them before liftoff.
  4. Good advice here already regarding getting the capture done, so I'll address the fuel issue: You can get an insane amount of dV from LV-Ns by using radial drop tanks. If nothing else, start slowing down as soon as you hit Moho's SOI if not sooner, dropping tanks in pairs as necessary, and mind your peri-moho. if you've plotted a close pass beforehand (hoping to take advantage of Oberth), a long, early burn will put you on an impact course. I learned that the hard way. As an example, I had a Mk1 1-seater capsule with 2 LF tanks then the LV-N, with 2 pairs of LF drop tanks on radial decouplers. IIRC correctly this setup was worth around 10km/s dV. Bear in mind this had no science gear (just a probe core), as I was doing a sub-Moho rescue mission. E: Confirmed specs, OKTO2 probe core and 'chute...
  5. Well, my first impression is to like it. No solar panels, but the crystal panels are supposed to produce power, along with a host of other 'green' features. But reading the comments on that article, I see that this design is quite controversial. However, that's no different than KSP or most other projects; where everyone wants different things.
  6. One of those would be sweeeeet. I think Dirk Pitt, er, Clive Cussler has one in his collection. Only thing it needs is a blown big block and some 18 inch mags... Ee, wait, this is 2019.... can we drop a Tesla AWD PerfPack drivetrain in it?
  7. Yeah, this “game” will end up full of true stories, of the sort I’d hear on the radio. Like people that call 911 because the drive-thru got their order wrong.
  8. Advanced technology helps, plus the presence of water ice, as confirmed by remote sensing
  9. When going through a dangerous area, you can hold a key ring so the keys poke out through your fingers. Extra effective if you aim for the eyes
  10. I guess because hype threads are/were generally in the GD forum, and this is as close as we’re getting to a hype vehicle since there seems to be some disagreement as to if a hype-vehicle is even warranted. And if it is, it seems nobody wants to drive it, although there are plenty of suggestions as to what form it could take. “Quick Robin, to the Hypemobile!”
  11. Only if you’re with Lucy, in the Sky, with Diamonds I assume you know those are by different Brit Bands. Not to be confused with a Magic Carpet Ride
  12. I don't think so. These are 5-segment boosters, and Shuttle used 4-segment. This will put the nozzles too deep underwater for divers to plug. At least, that's what I read somewhere.
  13. When I watched the original Pet Sematary in the theatre way back when, during the scene that flashed back to the sister with the twisted spine, some clown in the audience wolf-whistled and cracked up the house. ————————————————- Now wait, what a coincidence. I was diagnosed a few weeks ago with the same cataract in my right eye, but it only covers/affects the left side of the vision in that eye. Blurry in normal light, hazy in bright light. Hazy halo if I look at a light. It’s always been my weaker eye so I didn’t notice it until I closed my good eye on a bright day, which shocked the heck out of me. I went to an optometrist ASAP and he diagnosed it. I see an ophthalmologist on Monday. And the usual causes don’t apply to me, so it must be genetic. Both my parents had cataract surgery in their early 70’s Maybe too much time outdoors without sunglasses, or wearing cheap, non-UV blocking ones. Those only became standard when I was older. I still wonder about that when I buy cheap sunglasses; if they really do block UV like they claim to.
  14. Oh right, it’s a robotics dlc. Needs a HypeWalker...
  15. Skip it all and watch The Orville Two episodes in and I’m hooked. Too bad I can’t get my wife hooked
  16. Out of likes for today. This thread ate them all already
