  1. Oh, probably, when I find time. The biggest hurdle is reproducability
  2. Hmp. Several reloads later it finally decided to register impacts. Then another run didn't. Then it did again, on a sequence I was happy with, and made sure to save. But I had to ride it down to make it work, when it worked before when on rails. Weird.
  3. I came across this in my collection while building a playlist, so I put it in. Then the randomizer came up with it this morning, and now it's stuck. For those who don't know, mostly those who were too young to remember...
  4. The problem is that any attitude or roll changes will impart forward thrust, requiring a flip’n’retroburn to maintain the same orbit/position, wasting propellants. Maybe not a problem for a sci-fi craft, but also potentially inconvenient or uncomfortable for passengers. It could also result in unwanted translation. Might be better off to use “magical “ hi-tech reaction wheels for turning.
  5. Hmmm. I'm pretty sure the first time I did an impact experiment, I rode it down and got the results immediately after impact
  6. Hardly game-breaking, but definitely annoying. And yeah, the silence on this has been deafening
  7. I planted a seismograph (with control center and OX STAT) on the Mun, and it was good to go. I deorbited a primitive station near it, and got the message that it couldn't record the data because it had no power: it was on the dark side of the Mun at the time of impact. At the time of impact, I was focused on a lander just departing LKO. Ah well, I have a transfer stage inbound to try again, making sure it had sunlight. So my lander established Mun orbit, then did a de-orbit burn to land the transfer stage near the seismograph, while the lander landed nearby. I heard the kaboom of the transfer stage crashing (it wasn't an Earth-shattering kaboom), but no message. I checked over the science station, and everything looked good. Then I quickloaded to just after the de-orbit burn, and had a scientist at the science station pick up and re-deploy the control station and seismograph. After another perfect landing, I still had no message, no science results. So now I ask, before trying again and riding the stage down, has anyone else had this happen? This seems to be a bug, so I guess I should head over to the bugtracker. Can anyone reproduce it? E: and yes, I have some basic mods but no scientific or part mods
  8. That depends on how they failed. Aborted descent due to bingo fuel after not finding a clear landing spot? Definitely try again. Apollo 13 came earlier? Try again. LOC, A13 event? Probably. RUD rains debris down on KSC? Probably not.
  9. Cool website! Fun Fact: The landing legs on the LEM were made in Canada after Grumman couldn’t find an American contractor that could get it done.
  10. I believe most of the senior personnel at SpX, BO, and the other startups are NASA veterans.with the rank and file filled with aspiring kerbonauts.
  11. If they can make it work with aluminum it could start recycling some derelicts up there
  12. *Note to self, and others. Ensure the deployed solar-powered science station with seismograph has sunlight during an impact event.... And with 1.7.3 I’m also getting spammed center-screen with science messages, about every 10 in game minutes. With the messages to clear. A few days of warping and I have a hundred messages to click-to-clear
  13. And another zoomed iPhone pic. I really should have gone for my Canon after since I probably had time. Nearing sunset there was a high layer of cloud stretching almost to the horizon. And then this other low-level cloud in the foreground...
  14. Given how little time I get to play, I don’t want to muck around to figure out how to operate a propeller or heli-rotor properly, even though (or because) I understand the physics involved. So I second @Foxster‘ call for a dumb mode So how long until a modder figures out a control interface so that pitch/torque/RPM are automatically adjusted to vary overall propeller thrust based on throttle input ? OMG I just realized I described something that sounds like a job for MechJeb, which I have never once installed (KER based mods yes). So never mind, I’ll figure it out
  15. IIRC real single-prop planes have the engine slightly offset/twisted somewhat somehow to counter this. As well as pilots hitting the rudder to counter torque when going to full power for takeoff. Again, IIRC. Worth playing around with, I suppose. But nothing will be perfect.
  16. Well, I use the Store, and alongside the full version there is a patch to download and apply which updates to the latest version (need the right patch for the version you currently have), which you have to steer it to the KSP directory. That's all I use for minor updates like this. But it looks like one has to download the entire BG package to update BG; no patch for that. But the Launcher/Patcher? Yeah, I ignore that, and just patch and launch the game directly.
  17. Yeah, I know, not the right place, use the bugtracker but.... Now that I updated to 1.7.3, I'm, getting spammed with mystery goo messages proudly telling me that it's collected and transmitted a whopping 0.0xx science points....
  18. Nice! Sooner than I expected! This explains why the "KSP Loading: Preview..."s stopped... *braces for incoming waves of B-24 Flying Fortresses and B-29 Superfortresses*
  19. I wasn’t clear enough. The “solids” I’m proposing, while solid at Earth’s Standard Temp and Pressure (273.15K, 100kPa) would be liquid at Venus surface temp and pressure, and would act as heat sinks as they warm and melt.
  20. Hmm, if the propellants are the heat sinks, perhaps propellants that are solid at STP should be used for Eve Venus ascent. I’m thinking the lighter alkali metals as fuel, and the heavier halogens as oxidizer. The ISP might not be great, but boiloff shouldn’t be a problem. As far as heat sinks go, I’ve often thought that a Venus surface probe should have an outer jacket of ice, with the steam released through a turbine to provide additional electrical power or to directly drive wheels/treads or drills
  21. Thanks for the clarification; law is certainly not my area. As for the third point, I consider that to be outright (intellectual property?) theft. I was mainly speaking towards using/publishing images or music "for fun" with no intention of making money from it. No damages to sue for, mainly free publicity for those affected. As long as proper credit is given to the sources.
  22. I've found that zooming way out on a landed craft will show the shadow blotches of any surface features in the area. On another note, the contract says I should be able to find Baobab trees in the grasslands biomes, but there are none in the grasslands near the KSC. I haven't bothered looking further yet...
  23. I had a glitch trying to load the Ion detector thingamabob into the cargo container the other day. It just wouldn't go, but other experiments would. But I was soon done for the day, and shut down for the night. The next day, it loaded into the cargo container fine. So I would say restart KSP, perhaps rebooting your PC for good measure.
  24. You don't recognize a freshly polished toaster Cylon Centurion? No matter. Q likes juggling photon torpedoes....
