Science and Spaceflight - inaccessible via mobile or PC
StrandedonEarth replied to JoeSchmuckatelli's topic in Kerbal Network
Wait what? It’s Saturday night and S&SF is working again! This, after a brief? period early this morning when even the forum home page was giving me the white screen on mobile. Although, KSP1 Discussion still doesn’t work for me yet. -

I’ve pondered that myself; the biggest issue is that staging happens faster and farther away, making recovery of SuperHeavy more difficult. And to what end? Launching an even heavier payload? I suppose it may be one way to get a nearly-fully-fueled Starship to orbit in one launch, at the expense of a SH -

And after working all day, in the last hour or so S&SF went back to the white screen again -
OSIRIS-REx Asteroid Sample Return
StrandedonEarth replied to IonStorm's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Well, the early landing was explained by a wiring error causing a drogue malfunction; fortunately the main chute was up to the task. OSIRIS-REx parachute deployment affected by wiring error - SpaceNews -

I think the main frustration with SLS is that it doesn’t have the payload to do a truly useful lunar mission, hence the current architecture. The obscene amounts charged by the contractors just adds insult to injury, especially when it could be spent on other things. The lander should have been included for that price -
@adsii1970, this seems to have triggered a fault line and I sense a large amount of rantlava welling up. Fair warning... Time blindness, huh? That's a new one, and it certainly seems to fit as yet another manifestation of the underlying, um, challenges. Presented for your amusement, my twenty-year-old stepson. Always difficult, always a battle to get him to do anything, including wearing any nice clothes for our wedding when he was almost 3. He is the classic example of those students who are just pushed along through school, earning a diploma that may as well have come out of a Cracker Jack box (guess who wrote the major essays?). It's been very much like pushing a boulder up a 45deg hill with the end of a baseball bat. He was once diagnosed with ADD (of course the meds weren't worth the side effects), and his mom and I figure he must be somewhere "on the spectrum**" but not enough for a diagnosis, not that he needed one. But he definitely suffers from time blindness. Some would say he's special, but I prefer Red's terminology... He doesn't appear to go actively looking for trouble, but trouble has no problem finding him, luckily nothing serious. He's admitted he'll lie to us if he thinks he might get away with it, even as the evidence piles up. He tried to go into trades prep and gave up. Managed to hold a job for almost a year, got fired for [dumbS]. Went back to school, on the premise that this was something he was choosing and would therefore actually try, then dropped out too late to get his tuition back while telling us he was still going. $10k down the tuition drain between those two ventures, but at least it's his money/loan, not ours. Admitted that he finds himself incapable of asking for help when he needs it (understandable, since that's ALWAYS). Now the job hunt is back on, and not going well so far. I can only guess at what impression he gives of how much he wants to work. Oh hey, I think the rant is winding down now. Thanks for listening. ** It's my belief that we are ALL "on the spectrum." To carry the analogy forward, most of us burn in the visible spectrum, while some burn more towards the infrared or the ultraviolet...

Certainly not worth the hassle. But it might be worth the hassle for a Centaur V… -
Damn good book, I’ve read it twice so far. Might be time for another reading soon…

Science and Spaceflight - inaccessible via mobile or PC
StrandedonEarth replied to JoeSchmuckatelli's topic in Kerbal Network
Well, imagine that, S&SF is working on my phone again, although KSP1 Discussion still gives me a white screen. Scrolling back, I'm seeing a pattern where it starts working on Monday or Tuesday then craps out on/by Thursday., repeat next week. Maybe coincidence, I don't know. It's... I totally believe the IT team still hasn't actually done anything. I'm reminded of the old joke about a woman in a restaurant (who would probably be labeled a Karen in modern jokes) who tells the waiter it's too hot, please turn up the AC, soon followed by it's too cold, please turn down the AC, rinse, repeat. When a nearby customer comments to the waiter how aggravating it must be, the waiter replies "The joke is on her, we do not have air conditioning." -
At an U18 out of town hockey tournament. Last night, Must-win game, down 1-0. My wife says she has to go to the bathroom, so they can score while she’s gone, and sure enough we tie the game. Later, still tied, we get a power play so I tell her to go to the bathroom again. Go-ahead goal! Other parents around us are lmao at this point. So later I go to the bathroom cuz that’s when our kid scores. I’m told he had a glorious chance, and his line did score by the time I came back. Parents around us are howling by this point. This morning we won the semi-final and we didn’t even have to go to the bathroom at all!!! Currently marking time until the final game, so we can do the three hour dark and freezing drive home after.

Best solution I can see is using header tanks to ensure the center three keep burning through the flip, once stabilized and ullage is restored in the main tanks then light the next ring of engines. -
I so wish I had gone into CNC when I washed out of engineering. I figured something with computers, but the broad spectrum of computer choices left me indecisively marking time in manual labor (logistics and manufacturing) with a frame that really wasn’t built for that sort of long-term work. Even when I went to a union career-thing they just didn’t offer anything, it was “Well, based on the aptitude test you can do about anything, what do you want to do?” And I’m like “I was hoping you could give me ideas”. But no

Aaaaand it’s back to goobered. Sometimes I wonder if it’s a last-post avatar or something silly that the browsers don’t like. Or maybe I need to clear my caches. I just don’t freaking know -

OMG it works again! At least Science and Spaceflight does. KSP1 Discussion is still giving me the white screen on iPhone. But it’s progress, right @Gargamel? @JoeSchmuckatelli, working for you?
