  1. Congrats @tater for reaching the rarified atmosphere of the 10k club!
  2. AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Come back and see me later - next patient please Send in another victim of Industrial Disease The first song I remember hearing my parents put in the 8-track back when I was 4 or so was.... Later, when I was 12, my dad bought me my first Walkman, he also bought me this tape, and I remember being totally blown away by the effect of wearing stereo headphones and being basically submerged in the music. it was awesome! But this is the first time I watched the video, and uh, psychedelic much?
  3. The ISRO is planning to do some lunar habitat building experiments. About time someone did some work in that direction. http://www.moondaily.com/reports/India_to_Experiment_With_Igloo_like_Structures_on_the_Moon___Minister_999.html
  4. My buddy made me a tape with Master of Puppets on one side and Kill'em All on the other. What stuck out for me was "Anesthesia: Pulling teeth" (aka "Bass Solo, Take One). Although the whole tape got me hooked, and I certainly remember Orion and Call of Ctulu.
  5. Lately I've been watching this, and now it's stuck in my head...
  6. Stick it on top of a AN-225 or a 747-SCA? I just checked that it won't fit inside a Beluga XL or a Super Guppy.
  7. They’d probably just arrange to meet catering trucks and a tanker for refueling. Much like the fuel trucks and catering trucks that service construction equipment and workers at work sites. Otherwise they’d probably clog up the rest stops.
  8. I meant the strength of the fuselage itself, to be able to support itself sideways. without supports in the middle. Although I suppose it is the same when on the strongback.
  9. That tells you just how strong they are. Imagine being the guy shrinkwrapping that thing (yeah, probably a machine for that) SOP for loads like that is supposed to be pilot vehicles front and rear, although I have seen a vehicle get squished trying to pass an oversize load on a curved onramp. While looking for more images of F9s on the road, I ran across this...
  10. That guy was incredibly lucky to not get a Darwin Award. As for the whole gun/hunting convo, I did take the C.O.R.E. (Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Education, required to get a Firearms Acquisition Certificate) course when I lived in Ft St John as a teenager some 30+ years ago. As a kid fascinated with fire and things that go boom, I always wanted a gun, but my mom was dead set against such a thing, so CORE was the only chance I was gonna get to fire a gun (we went to the range one day). I also joined Air Cadets, for that reason and since I was also fascinated with flight. Later I moved to a major city, where a gun was pointless and and I had better things to do with my limited funds. But i do plan on taking my wife to the range soon. That's about how often I mow my beard down to stubble (not quite as cold as there is still a thin boundary layer, but still). I think the last time I actually shaved was for my own wedding 11+ years ago. And speaking of vinyl albums, they just can't be beat for the frequency range. Not that I really notice, but a friend swears by them... swears by them... swears by them... swears by them... scriiitch!
  11. Sorry if I tend to treat this thread as a music war thread...
  12. Better than taking them on a United flight...
  13. One of the brightest stars in the universe has died today, March 14th. The night sky seems a little dimmer now.... http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/stephen-hawking-dead-obituary-1.4575341
  14. What a pair of cuties. Be sure to get them some obedience training before they own you!
  15. Aside from the impossibly high pressures required, which requires extremely heavy tanks, or tanks made of miraclematerialium
  16. Oooh! Oooh! Time to start making my mission patch for my upcoming trip to Mejico! Good for Elektron to really start cranking them out and up!
  17. No, but it helps with immersion. Having the functions of desired mods (KAC, KER, TWP, NB-DAI are what I really want, KAS/KIS is a fun addition) as DLC's can work if bundled with a new mechanic that mods can't or haven't yet done. What I would like to see is a revamped Astronaut Complex. The current leveling system is entirely too minimal for my taste as it is totally passive, with the player not having any choice over the progression. I would much rather have a skill tree so I can pick and choose what skills my kerbals have. There can still be the same classes, but let me pick what skill they train up when they have enough XP. Maybe I'll train one 'geer to repack chutes and another to repair stuff, or give Bill the buff to operating mining equipment. Maybe train Jeb to hold the 'grades in space while Val can learn to hold the horizons while piloting planes, or do the astrogating (maneuver nodes). Maybe I want Bob to clean experiments but give Sigly a buff for MPL research. For an obscene amount of XP, Bill could even start learning pilot skills, or *gasp* calculate the dV remaining!
  18. I suppose. The Gigantors in KSP, before the radiators were added, were suppose to also double as radiators. But that is not how the ISS is built; they are separate components. Whoops, I googled an image for clarification, and found that there are radiators specifically for the solar panels, and they're actually called the.... photovoltaic radiators. Presumably to cool the power management systems/batteries, etc. Next someone will tell me they're sending up a four-seat Soyuz...
  19. I watched the most recent Designated Survivor last night, which dealt with an issue on the ISS. It wasn't bad science so much as bad facts; the most glaring was referring to the Soyuz "escape pod" and that the station had a crew of four. Of course, most people on this forum would know that the Soyuz only seats three. At another point they referred to the "photovoltaic radiators." Um, those are two separate components. (I stand corrected, there is such a thing) I was also wondering if the resupply rocket they showed, which I think was a Delta-II, could deliver a decent payload to the ISS, but a little googling showed that it could send up to 8000lbs to LEO, so I guess that was legit enough... But then, anyone watching a TV show that deals with their profession generally laughs at how far from reality it is, so I guess it's excusable for the sake of watchability. Like when they showed a ship docking with the ISS, it was coming in way faster than reality. Understandable enough, or it would be painful to watch. But to see it come in "hot" and just stop when it docked, with no apparent transfer of momentum even, just looked so wrong.
