Tucker Carlson-UFOs- Propulsion Systems
StrandedonEarth replied to Cheif Operations Director's topic in The Lounge
It all comes down to how much energy the tank can hold in the form of compressed gas. The part of the theory that does work is that the gas would cool as it expands, but the pressure in the tank would drop rapidly. I don't know the formulae to calculate how much energy could be stored as compressed gas. -

I suppose if there was an ridiculously high-pressure tank holding metallic hydrogen, it may provide enough thrust for long enough... -

Gravity polarizer or anti-gravity. Nothing else known could generate enough thrust efficiently, without a heat signature. Still, hard to see how a craft could have any kind of power system without a heat signature, without waste heat, without cooking whatever is inside. Whatever it is would have to be operating outside the bounds of known physics. -
Windows Movie Maker can do it. That's all I use for my lousy little kerbal music vids

Why isn't delta-v exposed in Stock (yet)?
StrandedonEarth replied to eightiesboi's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Harvester's initial vision was for trial-and-error, and that was fine before there were any muns, and even after. But when other planets were added, T&E became too time-consuming. I'd be fine if a stock dV calculator could raise a flag saying something to the effect of "Ok, this build seems confusing/odd, I think you have this much dV, but YMMV." IMO, mods-that-should-be-stock (KER, KAC, TWP) could/should be tied in to the tech tree and/or building upgrades, so as to not confuse or overwhelm new players. -
totm nov 2023 SpaceX Discussion Thread
StrandedonEarth replied to Skylon's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Interesting stuff on the livestream, but it's painful watching Elon talk live, with the ums, uhs, and pauses for deep thought ("buffering, please wait"). I'd rather just read a transcript.... BFS/G test flights will probably be at the same site in Texas where they tested the F9G and F9R-Dev (which self-destructed while nitpicking over a sensor reading). I liked how Elon chuckled when he said that, while the audience was, uh, dead silent during and after that. (at least until I gave up watching, cuz, time and all that) -

Kerbodyne and Rockmomax retexture
StrandedonEarth replied to theJesuit's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Getting a 3.75m->2.5m adapter fuel tank would be great too, without having to go through 3.75->Mk3 attached to Mk3->2.5m adapter tanks. And a stock fuel switcher? and a 2.5m LV-N? and... and... whoops I'm not really on topic here, but I started with Kerbodyne/Rockomax parts, so, close enough I hope.... -
So I created a new logo/avatar for myself...
StrandedonEarth replied to StrandedonEarth's topic in Kerbal Network
Actually, any size seems to work, the forum software automatically resizes it and then lets you adjust the crop, as long as it's (almost?) square, which is what caused the initial difficulty -
Brakes last longer in electrified powertrains due to regenerative braking. IMO the best bet is still a series hybrid like the Volt, basically an electric car with an onboard combustion-powered generator. I would think gas turbines would be best for that, since I believe they are fairly efficient and can run on nearly anything, although a specific fuel may best for emissions. I guess there aren't any in mass production that would be suitable. *does some Googling* Hmmm, there seems to be some units aimed more at heavier applications like busses dues to cost, maybe increased mass production could bring that down... http://www.bioturbine.org/Publications/PDF/microturbine-01-HILTECH.pdf One of the bigger problems with pure electrics in a colder climate is that the battery needs to provide cabin heat on top of not being able to supply as much power when cold. That's a big advantage to ICE -power, as cabin heat is provided by "free" waste heat.

I've heard that adding another 0m/s maneuver node near the end will force another conic, but if it's already getting jittery there's probably not much point.

Well whaddaya know, had no idea about that either. Thanks! Learned a few new things today!

Fixed, I just had to make the original canvas a little bigger so the resizer could crop properly -

Yeah, I saw that, still playing with it. Now I have black bars on the side, it may be one or the other. It would be nice if the resizing gizmo didn't leave those there, cuz that's what they're from... -

StrandedonEarth replied to StrandedonEarth's topic in Kerbal Network
Hmmm, I guess this works as an avatar too. It's The Martian. But for a video/meme signature I still think I need to colorize Kerbart's, when I have more time to spare from doing chores, instead of (supposedly) snacking
