Good old hydrogen, just like the Hindenburg.... -
Some ski hills will be running into trouble… ”Good bye, glaciers” [repeat two more times to the tune of “Goodbye Sunshine”]

Plenty of bicycle rims in inches here in Canada, which went metric in the 70s…

Yeah, fuel data conversion was a contributing factor in the Gimli Glider incident, although ultimately the aircraft should never have been in the air with faulty fuel-level gauges.... ....Which is why i figured a full metric conversion would be a PITA and more in ATC. Yeah, standard pallets and containers are Imperial-sized. Tires are fun; tread base width in mm, rim diameter in inches. And there are all the old tools and machinery built to Imperial measure to make phasing out even more difficult. Should I go with a 16-inch (40.64cm) rim or theses new-fangled (and currently non-existent AFAIK) 40-cm rims?

I admit I don't know for sure, but I thought they were still tracking flight levels in hundreds of feet and speed in knots?

I totally agree. My concern is how this will fly in the world of Air Traffic Control...

Ah, that works, thanks. Yeah, that's more fitting. It's been many years since I heard that one! -
Thats waht I would have done If I got a Steam card. Instead I guess I'm heading to Home Depot. But that's okay, it's what I asked for... Just finished another run of Factorio, FWIW

Yeah, I hate that song. "Video Unavailable" is just so blah.... My guess is Madness - "Our House".... -
Happy plane is happy! First time I've seen dualies on aircraft gear, especially the nose gear!

I don't think I've seen this angle before... -
January is National Soup Month, so my wife made hamburger soup and some light, fluffy homemade rolls (I think we've finally figured what warm water means regarding yeast). It gave us a chance to use up one of the frozen containers of whey left over from making yogurt, although I only remembered to do that because I was making a fresh batch of yogurt. Yummy stuff!

Just a quick 2022 Falcon 9 recap; I had to tabulate it myself since I didn't quickly find the info I was looking for. So I condensed a list from the wiki page, and this is what I came up with (boosters and flight numbers). For a wonder it added up to 60 missions, so it should be right. In 2022, the sixty F9 flights were made by 14 boosters. 4 boosters made their maiden flights; two of those only flew once (the other two combined for 11 flights). B1049 also only made one flight, its 11th and final flight. So that makes it 3 boosters that only flew once. 2 boosters were intentionally expended (B1049 and B1051 on its third flight of the year) after 25 career flights between them (Rest in Pieces, they served well). All others were successfully recovered 1 booster, 1062, made 8 flights (the first and second-last flights of the year), 3 boosters made 6 flights each, and 5 boosters made 5 flights each. 2 boosters made 3 flights each. That saved a metric crapton of manufacturing capacity! -

Some of the people who died in 2022... https://i.imgur.com/vECQh4i.mp4 (link doesn't want to embed) -
Actually, IMO damage is most often dealt with the edge of the blade, not the point. And if it does come down to a thrust, I don't think the point being a little dull will matter much.

FTFY Nice writeup!

I swear I saw an older version where the inspector made Santa fix the nav lights, moving Rudolph off to the side etc. But this version is all I found on short notice.

Don’t the Engineering students have mixers with the Nursing students, who have a similar but reverse gender ratio? At least, that’s what UBC did thirty years ago (this assumes there even is a nursing department where you go). OTOH, it’s not liked that worked for me either; it’s certainly not the same as being classmates. Never mind also falling into the “looking too hard “ trap @JoeSchmuckatelli mentioned… On the gripping hand, you never know…

Santa Claus, like all pilots, gets regular visits from the Federal Aviation Administration, and it was shortly before Christmas when the FAA examiner arrived. In preparation, Santa had the elves wash the sled and bathe all the reindeer. Santa got out his logbook and made sure all his paperwork was in order. The examiner walked slowly around the sled. He checked the reindeer harnesses, the landing gear, and Rudolph's nose. He painstakingly reviewed Santa's weight and balance calculations for the sled's enormous payload. Finally, they were ready for the checkride. Santa got in and fastened his seatbelt and shoulder harness, and checked the compass. Then the examiner hopped in carrying, to Santa's surprise, a shotgun. "What's that for?" asked Santa incredulously. The examiner winked and said, "I'm not supposed to tell you this, but you're gonna lose an engine on takeoff."
