  1. Does it moonlight as a catamaran? I guess the “wings” between the “pontoons” help with downforce; flip’em over and it might fly!
  2. That’s a paraphrase of what I was about to say…. The next step to the stars is in LEO, so I suggest “Dragonfly: NASA and the Crisis Aboard Mir”; a 1999 book by Bryan Burrough about the Russian Mir space station and the cosmonauts and astronauts who served aboard.
  3. You mean fiction or non-fiction?
  4. I don't think any mission is expecting multiple refuelings. Missions will launch when a depot is full and ready to refuel a mission in one docking. Filling the Depot will take multiple tanker flights, yes.
  5. While Boosters are supposed to be capable of “many” flights per day (4?). As long as they have a lineup of loaded Starships ready to go….
  6. Nice summary. I know I’ve seen the names somewhere else, but not listed together in the same place: what would the English translation of those names be, if there is one?
  7. At south of 150tons, Mriya could have hauled a fuelled SRB segment and then some! Whereas the ginormous Super Guppy could only carry ~24t
  8. Blankets might be better, yes. But white rejects more heat than shiny steel.
  9. A UPS would be better than.a plain voltage stabilizer (which IIRC is a built-in feature on most UPSs) because it has the power reserve to make up for the voltage dips. After making sure your PSU is up to the task, as Joe stated.
  10. Probably because the HLS/SS award was still being contested? Don’t have time to actually read it yet…
  11. Wow, nice! I imagine the freezing cold water and the depth had something to do with the remarkable state of preservation
  12. It would speed back up. In this situation it’s better to think of the speed of wave propagation, as opposed to particle speed.
  13. Dinner tonight will be chicken scampi, with the chicken cooked sous vide yesterday... It liiiived! I got a nice batch of yogurt out of pot and strained it overnight, making it nice and thick and leaving a bowl of whey, Then I used a stick blender to blend some blueberries into some of it, which made it runny again. Maybe it'll thicken up again in the fridge... They are pretty handy. Easy-peasy potatoes!
  14. Homemade calzones aka pizza pockets/pucks.... And purple tomatoes E: Oh, I also have a bioscience experiment in progress: yogurt culturing away in the multicooker
  15. Replied to a tweet about NYC apartments, and roaches, etc with the lyrics to this.... now it's stuck...
  16. *insert “It’s dead, Jim” meme here*. (On mobile or I’d do it myself) Now that’s a damn shame.
  17. Close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, nuclear warheads, and cauliflower* *The food fight equivalent of a hand grenade
  18. Presumably it could at least blow a track off, immobilizing it? But that’s not likely to be where a heat seeker would strike. Could tracks be targeted or “painted” (like a laser designator) by hitting it with a Molotov first?
  19. Yeah, that was one of my faves, and the German version did seem to flow better. That reminds me, I still gave some tricky Civ6 achievements to unlock...
