What is your favorite stock engine?

All depends on what's unlocked, where you're going and the size/mass of your ship. I use nukes most of the time for larger longer trips, or the spark or 909. For very small probes I use a place-anywhere RCS thruster as an engine with a bit of monoprop...

48-7S "Spark", Skipper being a close second. The spark used to be downright OP before 1.0, and still I find nearly all my "every gram counts" landers and probes gravitate to using it. It just hits this sweet spot of high TWR and decent ISP for it's size. Skipper because I love the model - I think it's the best looking rocket engine in the stock game.

LV-909. Good balance between ISP and thrust. It also does not overheat easily and its early in the tech tree

Gets my vote too, Cracking little engine, doesn't suck your tanks dry in seconds and gives a good account in terms of ISP.

When the new aerospike is out, that will probably be my favourite.

New Aerospike? WUT?!

For me, its the KR-2L... I love that vacuum Isp and TWR combination.

Its now the lander engine on my latest ISRU ships... need to lift about 10 orange tanks worth of fuel and ore to orbit around a body that isn't Laythe/Kerbin/Eve?

A single KR-2L will do it (though... for Gilly, I set a thrust limiter... I still want the thrust for interplanetary burns and capture burns, etc)

How can you pick just one, they all serve different functions. I use almost all of them.

Agreed. However, I do seem to default to certain combinations; and I really like the Poodle for a service module engine, partly because the light-colored pipe on it serves as a good orientation marker when I'm docking. Handy!

Poodle ! Just a tech ahead of lv-909 for better twr, isp, thrust-to-cost, and power generator !!!

A very good 3rd stage engine.

Of course, it is used less often when compared to lv909 as usually a terrier is enough for unmanned probes.

Am I really the first to say the RAPIER? In fact, I like all the air-breathing engines. I look forward to 1.0.5 with trepidation...
Hmmm, you'd got a point there. One engine for air and space alike, and it can even do roll by gimballing if I remember rightly. Still, I think I prefer the BIG engine myself.

That's a hard choice. They're all like my children. But if I had to pick, I'd say the Spark. Sure, it's not as overpowered as its heyday pre 1.0, but its still the little engine of choice for orbital probe and probe lander propulsion.
