Occasionally, they have moderator recruitment drives, during which you can apply. Other times, they harass you until you give in and join the team. :)

Also, moved to Kerbal Network, since it's about the forum.

Nice to know you guys are friendly.

Hey! I'm in that picture!

When was this anyway?

May 27. I was reading the How Famous Are You thread, and it was too good an opportunity to miss. :D

Spoiler

@cubinator has mellowed somewhat since then; nowadays he only accounts for half the replies:

At one point I remember when I took up the whole screen with my posts! Ha ha!

I don't even see my name in the forum games now.

I'm pretty sure I don't qualify for a moderater... I don't qualify for almost all of the requirements, and plus I don't really want to be a moderater anyways.

To expand a bit on what Vanamonde said, a few things that we look for when considering a person to become a moderator:

  • At least 18 years old, this one is non-negotiable as moderators must agree to an NDA
  • Reasonably high level of activity on the forum
  • Short or non-existent infraction history
  • Helpful and friendly with other posters
  • Not losing their cool in heated discussions
  • Significant contribution to the community
  • Speaking another language
  • Having a good sense of humor

I'm good on #1,2,4,6 and 7, but I fall short with 3 and 5. I have minor infractions, but nothing big and the only other language I speak is Latin... And just barely. I also can lose my cool sometimes... But I've gotten better at not blowing my stack.

But I've always wanted to become a moderator and I still do! #ElectZoo , just kidding :P still. When they feel I'm ready, they'll let me aboard!

I feel I'd be good for the team since for one, I know the majority of the moderating team, I know the rules and why they exist, I've been around for almost 3 years, seemingly never ending activity :P and I truly do have a profound love for this community since it has done some amazing things and has blown me away day after day.

I think I mostly qualify, and I'd probably accept if I was asked, but honestly, I'm not sure I'd make a good one.  Or if I'd really want to be one or not.  My biggest problem is what you also said, I can get hot headed at times, especially with people bashing KSP.  I tend to get really, really defensive when people start putting down the game, or the DEV's.

I'm very much the same when it comes to bashing the game or devs.

Yeah, I want to be a moderator when I grow up, too. My problem is I love smacking the low hanging fruit of those who want to trash the concept of national sovereignty and good old fashioned patriotism. One can show the love of their nation without being a fascist...

I blame Squad's terrible handling of 1.1 for my non-eligibility on points 4 and 5... Wait, is blaming Squad for everything a criterion for being a mod ?

I have, in all honesty, thought @WinkAllKerb'' was some markov-chain bot for a long time. Mods can attest that I have flagged quite a few posts of his/hers/its. But then, this post above makes perfect sense and fits the context. I give in: I don't believe you'r a bot anymore, just a really, really strange person.

So, note to mods and future mods: If someone keeps flagging the same person, and you have reason to believe the flag is unnecessary, just say so to the user doing the flag! Really, I'd have given you guys a lot less work if the first time I had been responded with something along "it's okay, we've looked into it already and it's not what you think" :)

Also... I think I'd like to become a mod, but I'm over the fence about it (for some time, actually). I believe I fit all criteria stated, with the exception of keeping cool when stuff heats up (which I'm working on, as I hope some might have noticed).

Do you guys need another portuguese-speaking mod at the moment? If not, know you can always ask me in the future (if you agree that I fit the criteria, that is, I don't know how much the flagging-spree hurt my rep :P)

Well, I have ruined my goal for not having any infractions this year.  Last year, especially the last six months, it seemed that nearly every time I turned around, there was another warning.

At the rate I am going, I might become a moderator once everyone else has quit playing KSP and this forum has about three active members left...

We understand your point, but keep in mind that there are confidentiality issues involved, and often we can't reveal our interactions with forum members and the things we learn about them when we do.

Alright, point taken.

@WinkAllKerb'', no offense intended! You just really got me confused.

Don't worry, hopefuls- I joined the forum way back in 2013 when I was a young lad of 15/16, and I did my time and was in the right place in the right time to where I got added to the ranks just a few months back.

#WannaBeMod

If you want to be a mod, you shouldn't be.

If you are willing to be a mod, then you can be.

Being a moderator is not  (or should not) be a power trip.  Anyone who WANTs power, already has demonstrated that they really shouldn't have  it

I had this discussion before on the IRC channel, it's not a power trip. It's the fact that I can finally make my efforts to help the formal officially bounded.

I have 0% desire for powers. Just want to officially helping.

I would suggest you change the sig to something like "  #WillingToServerAsMod".

Anyway, I wasn't intending to be insulting, hopefully you didnt' take it that way, if you did, I apologize.  it was meant as more of a general comment than anything else.
