You owe me a new keyboard...

Btw, I'd like to know if you guys are also going to follow the real Dakar, any fans ?

I married into the various trappings of the Alabama lifestyle, to include it's limited TV scheduling. If it's not college football, or duck hunting reality shows, it's Pay Per View.

Is there any online coverage?

Some of us remember the day 0.18 arrived and we suddenly had this gigantic red fuel tank and we thought to ourselves "Wow! The largest tank ever! We won't need any bigger! That thing is really amazingly HUGE".

Yeah.

Have a cookie: &) ( A Citroen body on a truck frame with a V-16 boat engine )

Now that's the kind of cookie spanner appreciates, having worked on some monsters in my time including allegedly the worlds fastest diesel engine boat the XSR46 with 2x isotta fraschini 2000hp turbo diesels ( theres a rather amusing video somewhere of yours truly standing between the engines at 90 knots with his overalls smoking from the heat off the turbos and manifolds)  also goes down in history as the loudest thing I have ever worked on , the Bradstone challenger one time round Britain record holder, and a couple of hyperfast projects for a shifty Russian millionaire :) Yes a very spanner cookie indeed cheers

@katateochi That animal is too cool for school! Totally stealing the landing gear idea later.

Thanks! (I won't confess as to how much time I spent trying to get the headlights looking mean!).
The landing gear roll cage does make it pretty tough, it can take most tumbles, but the downside is it adds drag.

Yeah but drag losses in a rover at 50~ m/s are maybe good for 5-10 seconds over the whole rally. I'd say you made a good survivability choice.

Man, I'm really looking forward to seeing and reading about all the rovers, and how they perform. :) I'll do my best to make a video, myself. It'll just be hell uploading over an iphone...

Feeling a little out of my element here... It'll do 30m/s average and is quite stable, don't think I could flip it if I tried.

Anyway, it's my rally car and I love it.

Nice. So far, it seems as much a game of survival as speed. Have you had it on the stages?

I took it through much of the first stage, just test drives, handles really well on the slopes, if a bit slow going up. I'll test it more in the later days, I'm out of gaming time tonight.

I reduces the top speed by about 10m/s, but yes survivability is more desirable than those 10m/s...but then again....*goes back to tinkering.

Yes same, already seeing some really cool designs being posted. I'm also going to vid my run of each stage and after stage 1 I'll write up a bit about the rover (and the couple of tricks it has up its sleeve).

I came back to this in the morning, I was under the impression that racing would fall under different classes? Or is everyone competing in the custom-scripted, heavily clipped little jet-powered monsters category?

The other thread (in the challenges section) seems to suggest there are many different classes, different vehicle and power plant classes I think

Well I'm entering an electric powered buggy and a jet powered one that the only mod being used is roll cages rerolled ... not sure where that puts me in the categories
